Sprouts, something else I googled to learn about - Welsh cakes/bakestones. Do you make yours in a cast iron pan? The recipe I read indicates that.

Penguinsa · 04/03/2024 04:29

Thanks Tilllly I saw you are in hospital, I really hope they have found you a bed now and got your pain under control and hope you can be back in your own bed with the lovely Daisy and co soon. Sending love.

Math I have still not heard back from my e-mail to Prok and its been a week and she normally replies within a couple of days so I don't know if she's still with us or something has happened. Will let people know if she does reply.

Lovely food on the thread. Just a quiet day here. DH did piano stuff with neighbours, had a roast pork Sunday roast and DH put the top on the IKEA cabinet but doors are still to fit. Floof is very happy with the doorless cabinet though, its like wardrobe height and like a bookcase with doors and Floof has been sitting on every shelf. He's just here trilling away to himself, 4.28am. 😂DD returned from her all night party and then day with boyfriend, watching Formula One.

Penguinsa · 04/03/2024 04:30

I also love eating cakes still warm Mallards DH is always slightly judging us but we all love it.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/03/2024 06:04

Penguinsa, feeling sad about Prok. I hope you hear something. Your dinner sounds nice.

I baked salmon and prawns with pesto and roasted baby potatoes and asparagus for dinner. No dessert, but I did have a small handful of choc chips earlier today. 😋
Baby has 2-month check-up tomorrow.
Watching American Idol. Sone very good auditions.
It's snowing right now. ❄️
I like butter on a warm piece of chocolate cake. 😁

Deathraystare · 04/03/2024 08:29

@Penguinsa

My Godson works for Formula 1! Cannot remember the title exactly but he is an engineer/maintenance guy for the cars. He is just back from Palma (work) and will be off to Brazil next weekend then needs a visa for China! He was recently in Saudi Arabia too. So proud of him! His (now late) Mum watched on tv and saw him on camera!

I used to laugh at my mum when she told me not to eat hot cakes as I would get a stomach ache. Quick as a flash I would reply "Well how come it is ok to eat sponge pudding hot then????"

@bizzey
I love Crunchies! I used to have one every Friday! The power of advertising. The advert would go "Thank Crunchie it's Friday!"

@Tilllly

I hope things are ok with you??

Deathraystare · 04/03/2024 09:55

I am off to see Dune 2 this afternoon (after work).

HildaTablet · 04/03/2024 11:58

Just catching up with everyone’s news after some busy times. Sending you my best, @Tilllly.

It’s a nice springlike day today and I’m heading to work having been trapped on the bus from my station into the middle of London - it was ‘on diversion’ and they put up an automated sign telling you this, but the driver’s supposed to then announce exactly what the diversion is….he didn’t bother so nobody had a clue where the bus was actually going. Rather poor, and they don’t let you off on intermediate stops as it’s not the ‘official’ route. So it took almost half an hour instead of ten minutes.

DH and I went into London last weekend to an exhibition at Tate Modern and as it was such a nice day I took a few tourists’-eye-view photos (last pic is the gigantic art exhibit in the turbine hall of the gallery). St Paul’s was looking very stately. The thatched building is the Globe Theatre which was rebuilt as a close approximation of the theatre Shakespeare wrote for/ran on roughly the same site, Bankside on the South Bank. It’s open to the sky and timber-framed using 17thc building techniques, and if you go as a ‘groundling’ you stand and look up at the stage. You also get wet if it rains!

Hilda wow those photos are stunning. The first one reminds me of a Turner painting with those brooding clouds. They might be touristy, but they are gorgeous. Lovely memories. Thanks for sharing.

We went to the Globe to see a Shakespeare play once. I can't remember which one, as it was one I wasn't familiar with. We were sitting on a hired cushion in the lower gallery and had a brilliant view. It was very strange to see a centuries old play with the occasional plane overhead. It was a very hot and humid night and the audience was crowded in the auditorium with people leaning on the stage. One of the staff members fainted and had to be carried out but the play carried on!
We also went to see Romeo and Juliet at the RSC in Stratford upon Avon. It was a last minute booking. We were up very high with a slightly restricted view and we were standing. At the interval we went outside for some fresh air, it was so hot in the theatre, but we were in a shower storm. For the second half of the play, people were gently steaming dry in the heat. It was still very enjoyable though.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 04/03/2024 13:12

I remember those ads Death. I love crunchies too but haven't had one in years.

You're making me feel nostalgic with those pics Hilda I miss London 💕

Poppy seed and polenta Havoc.

The recipe for anyone who wants it. I'm not a cook, this is idiot proof.

🎂2 eggs, cracked into a cup and mashed with a fork
🎂4 desert spoons of butter in a bg bowl with half a cup of sugar, mashed together with the spoon
🎂3/4 of a cup of self raising flour in the seive along with half a cup of polenta
🎂Sieve a bit into the bowl and put a bit of egg in too, mix
🎂Keep repeating the last step until all the egg is gone
🎂Add the poppy seeds and mix
🎂Then fold in the rest of the sieved flour, to put some air into the cake
🎂Grease a tin and put it in
🎂Bake at 180°C for 30min

It's crunchy, not too sweet and we've already eaten it all 😁

MissConductUS · 04/03/2024 21:28

Mr and Mrs Duck have appeared. Sorry for the poor quality of the photo; it was quite a distance away. And they had their backs turned to me.

I've mailed the invitations, and the lady at the PO said she'd hand-cancel them for me and get them out today.

Good that the invites have been sent off Missc ....
Have the in laws to be been in touch lately?...or is everything going to plan on that side of things ?

My room is coming along nicely....
Very much a, slowly but surely project !!

Had a lovely bath tonight with some bath bombs that I didn't need to gift at Christmas...
From what I have read about them...they don't last long .. so it is now going to be 1 in every bath instead of waiting for a special occasion 😊!

bizzey · 04/03/2024 22:12

Though I have decided. ...I prefer bubbles ..lots of bubbles 💭💭💭!

bizzey · 04/03/2024 22:16

A gift from Santa ...(13 ISH years ago ) ...when he was in a certain big London store !!

bizzey · 04/03/2024 22:17

Ohh ...I pressed too soon !

Now to decide how to organise them 😊😂😂!

sproutsandparsnips · 04/03/2024 22:47

Havoc I cook my welshcakes on a bake stone or maen, a cast iron griddle. They have to be cooked in batches.
Penguinsa I really hope Prok is ok.
Lovely photos Hilda, I think a trip to London is overdue.

Notaflippinclue · 04/03/2024 22:56

Cleaned the greenhouse windows with my karcher inside and out in the rain - what a difference

bizzey · 04/03/2024 23:31

Ohh @Notaflippinclue (hello!)
Are those Karchers easy to use ?

Like the adverts make them out to be 😂!

bizzey · 04/03/2024 23:32

I am impressed that you are cleaning your greenhouse!

I am struggling at the moment to clean my house 🙄🙄!

MissConductUS · 05/03/2024 00:16

Welcome, @Notaflippinclue, and thanks for sharing your greenhouse cleaning news. I have to admit, I had to google "karcher". As far as I can tell, they're not sold in the US. Which Karcher appliance did you use on the windows?

DS made pepperoni pizza for dinner, and we're having a quiet night.

Notaflippinclue · 05/03/2024 01:04

Karcher addict, simple to use, rechargeable - windows, tiles, glass shower walls all gleaming love it - no I'm not on commission

bizzey · 05/03/2024 01:12

Keep going with the Karcher advertising !!

I forgot it could do tiles as well !

So ...bathroom tiles ...that I can't reach 😊😁!

My bit of advertising is....drum roll 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁.

Drawer organisers !!

I have sorted out the top drawer ...which was a dumping drawer...

Which is now a dumping drawer ...divided into 4 compartments..😁😂😂!!

I wish I could remember where I got them from ...as I want more !!

bizzey · 05/03/2024 01:21

My big clear out was helped by a pop up item on my phone the other day ....

Strangely enough....it was about the dangers of using old /out of date body and face products ! 😮😮 !

I am too embarrassed to say how long I had been keeping hold of these items ..." In case I need them " ....

But they have now all gone !

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/03/2024 02:16

Bizzey, what constitutes a "special occasion" to use a bath bomb? Inquiring minds want to know! 😁
I'm sure you can find a goid selection of storeage containers/bins etc on Amazon?
Miss, I had to google "karcher" as well! It's not a word I'm familiar with in Canadian English either. I see it's a company name, so I take it that is in common use for the products much like saying Tylenol or Kleenex. The window vac mentioned on their site looks useful.

All the snow from last night was gone by early morning as it started raining. The mountains got a fair dump, though. It was a gorgeous afternoon. I noticed my neighbour's patio umbrella and table were tipped over. It was quite windy on the weekend and last week.
I need to go to Costco. I'm now shopping 2x p/w and buying smaller amounts since the car has two child car seats in it and I keep a stroller in the trunk, so there isn't much room for other things.
My cold isn't budging atm. Cough is very annoying. I'm also very annoyed (trying not to let it break me) to be sick again. Having been sick so badly, and for so long, with covid 3x last year, sick 3 weeks over Christmas and while in hospital having baby and then with RSV two week after recovering from that, I'm pretty much done and feeling like I don't want to go out at all...
Just a bit of self-pity, really. (But it is bloody difficult looking after everyone when sick and when they get it, too.)😢

Penguinsa · 05/03/2024 04:47

Floof was so ill yesterday and no idea why, indoor cat and normally trills and purrs and chats all day long, none of that and wheezing sounds, cough, nose running and vomiting several times. Took him to the vets and got some things but vet got a fever but doesn't know what caused it. His food was normal food, he does eat food he finds sometimes but that would either have no effect or make him a bit sick once not like this. He seems a bit better but is still off his food and only quiet purring. Normally the whole house can hear his purring and trilling and he's either super cuddly or leaping around or eating. We do have some indoor plants, daffodils, dried lavender and hyacinth so have put them out incase its those though had two out of three a month. Vet seemed puzzled but gave him two injections one for pain and one for anti nausea and those have helped and we have to watch him for 24/7. I just picked him up and put him in my room and that got a loud purr even though he went back after 10 mins. Normally you just need to compliment his tail or the smallest stroke, he's the happiest cat ever normally. I am staying awake with him watching Below Deck but he seems to be improving at the moment.

Hope you feel better soon Havoc

That must be amazing to work for Formula One Death

Great London pictures Hilda
