Bizzey, you're right; a lot of those biscuits are imported from Italy, which makes sense since it's an Italian-themed supermarket. My mum had a trust, and it was so much quicker to settle than a will would have been. We're going to use some of the money to help DD and her future husband a decent car when they return from their honeymoon. The Subaru of ours she's driving now has been very reliable, but it's 12 years old and has 150,000 miles on it, and it's going to have problems at some point in the not too distant future. They'll get another Subaru, just a newer or new one.

I'm glad to hear you're improving, penguinsa. It's normally just 48 hours or so for the immune system to realize that you're not actually sick. I'm sore in my shoulders and neck, as I overdid it with lifting dumbbells after my surgery. I hope it's gone by the time I have my post-op exam on Friday. Otherwise, I'll have to fess up, and he'll probably want radiography. I dunno. He may want the radiography anyway.

DS has returned from Boston, where he had a good time seeing his uni friends. We're doing burgers on the grill and then have a Zoom call later with DD.

Re vaccines ...
I am absolutely wiped out for days after my vaccines !

I must be a wimp 😅.

Mam can have hers and there is not a bother on her...me ! ...I have to plan them around days that I have a 3 day clearance in appointments for mam or ds .

In fact ...I missed my flu vaccine last winter because I couldn't fit in my 3/ 4 day recovery time ...which is ridiculous when you think of it 🤔 as I would have been out of action for much longer if I had actually got flu !

mathanxiety · 29/04/2024 05:05

So sad to hear the news of Tilllly. Wishing her eternal rest.

Deathraystare · 29/04/2024 15:00

Gosh that is so sad about Tilllly.

I had a quiet day last week (I am a bank worker - like a temp rather than person who works in the bank! I don't like to say I had a day off for some reason).

I went to the cinema to see Abigail about a vampire ballerina. Dan Stevans was in it and he looked so different (if it was who I think it was! The guy who was Lady Mary's cousin in Downton. Well he had black hair, glasses and an American accent. He actually looked like Zak Begans from Ghost Adventures!!!!

MissConductUS · 29/04/2024 15:11

We had a good Zoom call with DD last night. She's heard back from a few of the B list invitations she sent out, and there are still more space to fill, so we're going to invite a few people locally the kids know well, including their university admissions consultant, their high school art teacher and an old friend of DH's mum. All have had a positive impact on her life.

And she's job hunting. She's in a program that matches early career STEM graduates with Federal Government jobs, many of which can be done fully remotely. It's called the US Digital Corps and she has an interview this week with the CDC (Center for Disease Control) that can be done remotely. The CDC became somewhat famous during the pandemic, and it's gotten a lot of funding since then. It's a full civil service job with very good pay and benefits and can be done from anywhere in the US. So she can follow our future SIL to his graduate school location and earn a full-time salary if she gets it.

They'll find something for her. She's graduating from a very prestigious university with a double major in neurobiology and data science, and it's hard for the government to recruit STEM graduates because most want to go into private industry.

Death, I must've misunderstood as I thought you worked for a hospital. 🤦‍♀️ Did you go to a matinee?
I used to go to the movies on my own occasionally and really enjoyed it. Matinees during the week were the best because it felt like playing hookey. 😁
Miss, wow your dd!!! My math skills are brutal. I struggled with 1st year econ (Penguinsa's fave?) as well as geog (my science elective). Good for her!!!!

Baby had vaccination appt today. Was late, but still got in. 😅 Took Havoc to gymnastics after. Havoc asked for a"special treat" so went to Cartem's for donuts. Walked with a box of 12. 🤦‍♀️

Watching a CBC doc, Surviving the Circle, about yet another cult here. Yea us. 😔

Sitting down to a late dinner of salmon, roasted garlic potatoes and asparagus with chives. Havoc has asked for "more cream" three times. 🤷‍♀️

Havoc ...that looks lovely 🤤🤤!

Admin day for me today ...😕..
It just sometimes seems never ending!

We have elections on Thursday
Local and London Mayor.

Had a another knock on the door by someone for one of the parties asking who we were going to vote for .

Been everyday now !

Actually....I have just realised...it is someone from the same party ,🤔.

I have to say ...sometimes I don't always engage in their chats ...

I don't like talking politics on my doorstep 😅!

But I am always polite to them .

I do love their passion !

bizzey · 30/04/2024 19:32

Canvasser ....that was the word I was looking for !

bizzey · 30/04/2024 19:33

2 more days and I won't be getting late knocks on my door for a while ....
Well untill we have a General Election I suppose!

IWanderedLonely · 30/04/2024 20:38

Havoc that meal looks amazing. I had cornflakes for my tea Blush but I have prepped all the veggies, made white sauce and grated cheese for tomorrow's lasagne. I'll assemble it tomorrow morning.

Penguinsa · 30/04/2024 20:49

Just done some gardening with DH and filled the green bin, lawn is mown and did some weeding and cutting back. A little robin and a blackbird followed us round. Bins collected tomorrow.

Going to have aligot for dinner.

Lovely meal Havoc

Lasagne sounds great Iwandered

Good luck to your DD MissC Sounds very talented.

Thanks Bizzey

Watched Below Deck and the longest third date (Costa Rica). DD went to school. Plumber finally came and fixed the downstairs bathroom and DH then went and cleaned it and installed the new toilet seat I bought about 3 years ago which he's always said he's fitting tomorrow.

bizzey · 30/04/2024 21:04

Yaaayyyy !! Penguinsa ! Tomorrow has finally arrived 😅😅!

I need to find my ?? Plier/spanner / tool ?? whatever it is called or needs !
My downstairs toilet seat is moving a bit , so I think that needs a bit of a sort out .

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/04/2024 21:16

Thanks Iwandered and Bizzey. Dinner was super easy, btw. I put the salmon filet in the oven frozen and after about 10mins seasoned and put a bit of butter on top. Potatoes on same tray seasoned with s&p, evoo, garlic/garlic powder (not garlic salt) and asparagus was tossed in Olive Garden salad dressing then popped in the oven while I plated everything. That's just a bit of sour cream on the plate. I like it with potatoes and salmon. 😋

sproutsandparsnips · 30/04/2024 22:27

That food looks lovely Havoc. And the donuts 😋
Penguinsa gardening is so satisfying isn't it? We have a blackbird who is very bold and I talk to him (but he doesn't talk back to me).
Bizzey glad you got the admin sorted. It's boring but you've done it! I just can't seem to get started on it.....
Miss your DD sounds eminently employable!
My dad is doing ok, digestion still a problem but everything else progressing well. I went away to meet up with old uni friends overnight on the weekend and we had a great time reminiscing and even had some photos to look at! DH had to take DS2 to rugby for his last game down in the Gower and both teams had a lovely bbq afterwards.
DS1 was revising for AS levels but did manage to go up the local 'mountain' (I will try and post pic). He had an A for Welsh Bac community and global project so is pleased.

sproutsandparsnips · 30/04/2024 22:30

I failed to post pic......

bizzey · 30/04/2024 23:02

Sprouts well done to your ds !

My admin didn't get finished!!
Just 5 ( or more ..lost count !) got started !

Will take a lot of form filling to complete!

bizzey · 30/04/2024 23:19

I do have a funny recycling story for you all though !

Some time ago I mentioned on here and to mam that I had booked a charity collection from my house.

Mam said she had some stuff for charity as well .

I went up and collected her (4 !!) bags of clothes !

I had to re-organised the bags ...so went through the stuff and cos I am nosey !.

Since then ...I have gone up to mam's house ....and each time she complimented me on my scarf/
T/shirt../ cardigan ...

And yep !!
I have had to tell her ...they were her clothes that I took out of her charity bags ! 😅😂😂!

Mam's clothes are in impeccable condition.

Just she keeps buying the wrong size !

I am a lot smaller than her ...but she thinks she is a lot smaller than what she is !

I actually need to bring some stuff back upto her as I think she has got rid of some stuff by mistake!

mathanxiety · 01/05/2024 01:53

bizzey so funny about the donated clothes! You can't deny they've found a good home.

MissC glad the wedding seems to be coming together, and fingers crossed your DD will land a good job too.

DD3 and I have been invited to a summer bridal shower at a swanky restaurant where we will apparently be among 80 guests. The wedding is in the autumn, with another wedding coming up in about a month.

I've had spinach salad for dinner two days running. I'll make lentil soup tomorrow, and I need to make some mushroom soup too before I end up throwing out a pack of mushrooms I've had in the fridge for a while. Maybe a mushroom quiche, too. I have a good deal of chicken stock in the freezer to use.
Havoc, your salmon, asparagus, and potatoes look delicious.

The weather has finally warmed up here, and the trees have sprouted leaves. The tulips seem to have benefited from the cold and wet early spring days. They're magnificent. I moved my Boston ferns and a few other hardy plants out to my deck. It's almost time to find the hummingbird feeder and set it up again.

Penguinsa · 01/05/2024 21:39

Yes tomorrow finally arrived Bizzey only for one thing on the tomorrow list but happy with that. 😂Hope you can get that seat fixed.

Congrats to your DS Sprouts and the uni meet up sounds lovely.

Bridal shower sounds lovely Math

Also love salmon, asparagus and potatoes here Havoc and pancakes and had more pancakes tonight. Had one with mozzarella and parma ham (Floof was very jealous) and one with sugar and lemon.

DH mowed the rest of the lawn. Tomorrow in theory we have 3 deliveries arriving , one with a bin for DS which hopefully he will use, he used my previous posh pink bin, refused all DHs cheap replacements so now have posh "dreamy blue" bin arriving with silent close and pedal and special bin sacks. Hopefully this will inspire DS to use it. He is using a wicker hamper for his recycling, the one DHs Christmas work hamper comes in. Then 2 parcels of RHS gardening stuff including a few plants and some tools and compost. If it arrives at a reasonable hour and weather is good (highly unlikely in UK) we will do more gardening tomorrow evening. 3 day weekend coming up when will do gardening if can't do tomorrow night.

Washed and changed all the bedding and been watching a programme about travelling around Australia by train. Ordered a Sainsburys order but keep changing it.

MissConductUS · 02/05/2024 00:57

Have fun at the bridal shower, math. 80 people at a swanky restaurant is quite an extravagant shower. DD had hers in a lounge at uni and had catered sandwiches and salads. I do hope everything works out for her job wise. If she gets the CDC job, she'll be the primary bread winner in the family.

penguinsa, I'm behind on my gardening. I've asked DH to pick up two large bags of potting soil so that I can get started on my deck garden. I've already moved the giant aloe plant out onto the deck.

I am currently miserable with seasonal allergies. Tree pollen is very high at the moment, so I'm achy, coughing, congested, etc. On top of continued post surgical stiffness in my neck and shoulders, I haven't been good company for anyone and work has been busy with meetings.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/05/2024 01:50

Miss, sorry to hear you're not feeling that great. 😔

SwordToFlamethrower · 02/05/2024 09:30

I took my friends foraging yesterday and we each filled a net bag of wild garlic leaves. We ate a picnic and had good conversations.

Blessed beltane to pagans, druids and witches

mathanxiety · 02/05/2024 15:45

Sorry your allergies are bothering you, MissC.
I've started taking Flonase already as spring sprang in the course of a week here, and we've had a good deal of tree pollen.

There is a little whispering and some raised eyebrows at the scale of the autumn wedding that's being planned. It's pretty unusual to have such a huge guest list as venues, menus, music, etc. tend to be pricey. But to each his or her own.

mathanxiety · 02/05/2024 15:50

Sword, the area of the US where I live is runoured to have been named for its abundance of wild garlic or onions.
