I was not firing on all cylinders at work today. But I worked very hard yesterday so it probably evens out!
I wonder how what evolutionary technique protects my teens?!

Tilllly · 12/03/2024 20:24

The problem with most OTC drops @Mumtobabyhavoc is they have preservatives in

So, depending on the cause of your dry eyes, overtime you become intolerant to the preservative, and it makes your eyes worse

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/03/2024 20:31

Tilly, I have an optometrist appt coming up. I'll ask about that. Thanks for letting me know. 😸

Tilllly · 12/03/2024 21:02

Ask if they think an eye bag is suitable for you as well. My ophthalmologist recommended it for me and it does make a difference. So I put it in the microwave for 20 seconds and then leave it on my eyes for about eight minutes.
Then I massage down the eyes top down, and up the eyes bottom up, and that helps, melt and release some of the oils

Initially, it was twice a day, but now it's three or four times a week. Just keeps on top of it really.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/03/2024 21:06

Tilly, your timing is impeccable! A few weeks ago I went in because I had a very itchy inner eyelid. Gland was plugged. Warm compresses, special cleansing wipes and washing face more often were advised. It has improved quite a bit. Luckily, I already had one of those microwavable eye compresses (had forgotten about it).

sproutsandparsnips · 12/03/2024 22:46

Miss that's an impressive clear up job! Whose responsibility is it? Do you have the equivalent of our councils?
PTSDBarbiegirl I love my teddy blanket - so soft!
Penguinsa that is a lovely looking cake!
Havoc I wish I could come over to you to eat your delicious food! We really enjoyed the food in Canada last year at your recommendation but there was so much of it!
Been to my swimming fitness session tonight. Feeling virtuous. DS2 went to sleep this afternoon after school and going to the gym. He is now wide awake and I worry won't sleep well tonight and perpetuate the vicious circle. He spent a long time last night trying to redo some Welsh that his teacher was less than impressed with - I'm not sure the second attempt was much improvement but my Welsh is not good enough to offer any help. I think he is growing through puberty now so is tired and moody but wants to do so much. We have to travel nearly an hour on Sunday as his rugby team is combining with another (both low numbers) to play a game and I'm already planning how he can get extra rest.....

Umanresources · 12/03/2024 22:54

Hilda I’m very envious of your doors. I could do with 4 new doors upstairs. I’m the shed person. I’ve got 4 sheds in the back garden and 3 storage containers (why do we say garden but Americans say backyard?).

Tillly, Havoc I’ve had the same complaint with my eyes and have the mask and cleansing wipes. I must get them out again.

My daughter went for a job interview today. She said they asked her who was her hero and she said me. When asked why she said that I was a single parent and I “kicked ass”. I made her understand that education was important. I did go back to get qualifications when the children were young. It was very hard work but so worthwhile. I’d do it all again in a heartbeat. I envy you your babies Havoc. It seems like yesterday mine were little.

Tilllly · 13/03/2024 03:09

That's amazing @Umanresources
Gilmore girls moment right there!!

Tilllly · 13/03/2024 03:14

Havoc, Umam go steady with the wipes, you can over use them
And always inner corner to outer

I use celluvisk 0.5% on prescription for drops because it comes in individual packages, so no need for preservatives
Then at night, xailin ointment. It's like Vaseline but it stops the dryness so reduces chances of corneal abrasion

Dryness can be really painful and lead to other problems
But if you keep on top of it, it's fine

Deathraystare · 13/03/2024 07:36

I think my eyes only water in the wind. Or certain mascaras. My dad had it to when riding his lambretta. He never wore mascara........

Deathraystare · 13/03/2024 07:36

@Umanresources

Your daughter deserves many, many hugs oh and a decent job!

Oh she does. Thankfully she does have a job, this is for promotion. He dad walked out when I was pregnant with her and my son was 3. He was never in their lives after that. I got together with my lovely OH when she was 16 so we were a unit of 3 until then but we had some good times. Both have been a joy to me. They are the loveliest humans I know. 😍

IanCurtisdancing · 13/03/2024 13:11

I just had a steak bake and a cup of tea, and have put a wash on. I am working at my dining room table doing some very boring board paper reports and considering a brownie.

My mundane news is today my ND child went into nursery without crying, which means I started my day without wanting to cry!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/03/2024 13:55

Iancurtisdancing, that's a victory. Eat the brownie!
Uman, that's lovely your daughter feels that way.
Death, Tillly, I like your humour.
Sprouts , new world abundance.

woke up an hour ago when baby was stirring and haven't been able to fall back asleep. 🤦‍♀️
and now I'm yawning so much my eyes are watering and I have to get up to go wipe them with a warm wet cloth 'cuz paranoid about my eyes now...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/03/2024 14:17

In the span of 18 mins since last post I've wiped my eyes, boiled kettle and poured a cup of hot water, prepared Havoc's breakfast, turned on dishwasher, put laundry in, checked Havoc and fixed blankets, checked baby's diaper and am now nursing baby. 🤷‍♀️

MissConductUS · 13/03/2024 15:20

Welcome, @IanCurtisdancing, and thanks for sharing your calming lunch, washing, paperwork and child positive achievement news. You should definitely have the brownie to celebrate the lack of separation anxiety for your little one.

We've had so many new joiners to the thread recently. Usually it's a flood of them at the very beginning, then nothing. Perhaps more MNers are looking for an island of sanity calm here. 😁

Sprouts, the local town governments here function similarly to your councils and have a department of Public Works that takes care of the roads and things like tree removal. They are quite efficient.

Uman, congrats to your daughter! I think we say backyard instead of back garden because they are often primarily lawns. If there's a section of flowerbeds or vegetable planters, we would refer to that section as the garden.

Yes, great to see so many new joiners. Welcome all.

DH and I were just driving through our village and saw so many red kites almost at eye-level, it was astonishing. Must have been 30 or more - I’ve never seen so many so close all together, and they were swooping down into a garden where someone must have thrown food down for them. They are scavengers of carrion but can take small mammals as prey usually. They were saved from extinction and reintroduced to various parts of the UK, ours included, and have become an enormous success in breeding terms. They’re an everyday sight for us but never so many flocking in one spot and flying down so low. They’re magnificent to look at. (this is probably a bit too exciting for this thread, tbh).

Red kite guide: how to identify them, what they eat, and do they really steal laundry?

The red kite is a magnificent graceful bird of prey, it is unmistakable with its reddish-brown body, angled wings, deeply forked tail and a wingspan upto 2m

@Deathraystare ....I definitely do not want 7 internal doors !!! Even through I hate my internal doors 🤣🤣!

Hello new people ! ..

I will apologise in advance for being terrible and remembering names !!

I am in a strangely excited mood today about ds moving out ! 🤣..

Mam kept saying to me ...ohh you will miss him ..Nope !

The house will feel weird without him ..Nope. !

Funny thing was ...I was just at the sink earlier doing some washing up ..and going into overthinking mood ...as you do ...

I was thinking , it will be hard for him to get his washing done and as he is only 15 mins down the road I would do it for him as long as he doesn't want a 1 hour turnaround!

Next thing I know ...he comes into the kitchen with some darks saying he doesn't have enough for a full wash ...shall I leave it here ? !! 🤣🤣

I have already earmarked in my head which bits of furniture he can take ...and what I will do with the room after 🤣.

Don't know whethwr to leave it as 2 singles or change it into a double?

Ds3 has said he doesn't want the room as it's too big .
He prefers the small single/box room .

Would be better as a double so that ds1 and gf don't have to sleep in the sitting room 🤔..

And ds2 wouldn't really need to stay here when they are here as ...well he would walk home !

Decisions ...decisions !

Tilllly · 13/03/2024 21:34

Well I have had a lovely evening. Two colleagues/friends came over to see me for a couple of hours. And they have travelled a very long way to do so, a good hour to an hour and a half drive.
Was lovely to have a nice normal evening

bizzey · 13/03/2024 23:01

Ohhh Tillly ..how lovely for you 💐.

Little things like that do lift spirits...that we don't realise till after x.
Glad you had a lovely evening.

Penguinsa · 13/03/2024 23:10

Glad you had a lovely evening Tilllly

Well done on the swimming Sprouts

Lovely re your DD Uman

Had cahms meeting today and went swimming.

bizzey · 13/03/2024 23:36

@Penguinsa ...you are still under cahms ...!

Do they pester you ?

They were not good for us ..

I have regrets /hindsight how I handled things with ds .

But we took a decision..not to go with their view /thinking of how to deal with things .

Hope it went well ,

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 14/03/2024 00:50

I love birdwatching Hilda must have been amazing to see that.

It's nice to know people care Tilllly, sometimes it's the unexpected ones too. I glad you had a nice time.

At least with DS2 staying close by Bizzey you will still be able to see him lots. If you don't want to buy new furniture you could just push the two single beds together and DS1 and GF could make do with that. It's daft to have people sleeping in the living room when there's an empty bedroom.

I went to the car shop for new headlight bulbs tonight.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/03/2024 01:04

Penginsa, hope meeting was positive. That's one wheel that is not moving well...
Tillly, so glad you had a nice visit. 🥰
Bizzey, ahhh chick learning to fly...bitter-sweet. 🥹

Took Havoc for ice-cream today. One section was dedicated to various chocolate flavours. Turned out to be somewhat sunny.
