How old were you when you lost your virginity?

And if you have children old enough, how old were they?

I keep hearing about how kids are losing their virginity younger and younger now so I was curious to know how old you were, compared to your children.

I was 17. Dh was 13.

DD is 10 and still at the age where anything sexual grosses her out (thank god). They are currently doing sex education at school at the moment and she comes home horrified every time

Isitovernow123 · 21/02/2024 21:46

16, DP was 17. Teenage parents off the first attempt at using contraception 🤦.

Isitthathardtobekind · 21/02/2024 21:47

Just turned 15. It was a one off with my boyfriend I’d been with for a year who was 16 and a total chav 😏.

I got fed up to be honest with the mix of peer pressure to do it and the daily question of ‘have you done it yet?’ from half my tutor group and then my mum calling me a slag/slut etc even though I hadn’t done anything. Thought I may as well. She found out not long after and told me no one would want to marry me and did I want to get cervical cancer. It was all a great time.

2under4 · 21/02/2024 21:47

I was 15, my DP was also 15 (but not each others firsts).

I'm curious with people who didn't lose it until their 20s or later - is it because you were waiting for marriage? Or just didn't fancy it? Or some other reason?

Treehugger22 · 21/02/2024 21:48

15 wish I waited

Bigbadmama · 21/02/2024 21:54

Only 14 and ashamed to admit that. I had a very controlling boyfriend. Took me 3 years to dump him.

AngeloMysterioso · 21/02/2024 21:54

17 and a half- positively geriatric considering the town I lived in was the teenage pregnancy capital of Europe at the time - my DB’s current gf got pregnant with her 1st baby aged 13, and became a Grandma at 33.

19lottie82 · 21/02/2024 21:55

16 - It was with a guy that I fancied and I’d snogged at the local night club a few times, I think he was 20.

it would have been nicer to wait until I met someone where it meant something but tbh, I wanted rid of it! I was the last of my friends to have sex, or so it felt like!

Enchanted82 · 21/02/2024 21:56

@2under4 in response to waiting til 20 to have sex- I had my first properties at 15 and honestly didn’t feel ready to have sex until then. Maybe it was self confidence but it was mainly I totally didn’t feel ready to be intimate with someone like that. Probably quite insulated by parents so not very worldly either!

ScruffMuffin · 21/02/2024 21:56

I was one who waited. We were 22 (me) and 28 (him) and preferred to wait for marriage... although the fact that we were long-distance for three of the four years before we slept together did help! We're each other's first and only... been together for almost 30 years now.

Someone mentioned porn earlier in the thread - not in this context, but it got me wondering - is it something most people watch/ look at l, at some point? Together or individually? It's not something that's ever crossed my mind, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like it. No idea if DH has or not. I wouldn't have a problem with it if he did - I'd just have a problem if he weree actually unfaithful!

Sorry for the derail. Just curious.

Enchanted82 · 21/02/2024 21:56

I meant proper kiss!

Energydrink · 21/02/2024 21:57

15 to a piece of shit man.
my head was completely spun and I wish my parents had offered more emotional guidance in making appropriate relationships decisions / setting standards in ‘love’

i will definitely provide a safe space physically and emotionally for my kids

Alyosha · 21/02/2024 22:00

21 in 2010, I felt geriatric. I told some younger colleagues for shock value and they all thought 21 was a perfectly normal age!

My friendship group seemed to be between 16-18 mostly, I was definitely the outlier.

ScruffMuffin · 21/02/2024 22:01

Sad to hear of so many people who were children and couldn't consent properly. 12/13 is so, so young. It seems like most (even those who were in relationships at the time) wish they had been older. It's particularly sad to hear about so mnay being groomed or experiencing sexual abuse. 😞

Based on what my DDs tell me, I think the average age might be creeping up a bit now.

weathervane1 · 21/02/2024 22:03

14 to my Aunty Eileen (mums friend, not related) and 26 when I eventually felt comfortable to give myself to another person.

I did wonder! 😆 I thought 'some posters come out with some outlandish stuff on here, but aged 15 with your own properties......? REALLY?!'

😄

5 :-( I'm absolutely disgusted and ashamed of myself, it was consensual, "I asked for it and I was a slut just like my mother". I never knew my mother

Gooseysgirl · 21/02/2024 22:06

I was around 19/20. Among my friendship group at the time it ranged from 16-20. I had little opportunity until I moved away from home for uni... then I made up for lost time 😆

Realdeal1 · 21/02/2024 22:06

28!

watermelonsugar56 · 21/02/2024 22:07

18 to a stranger and it was both disappointing and awkward. Just wanted it out the way. Wish I had waited tbh.
DH was 14 or 15 and feels the same. Ah well such is life.

From my perspective I didn't wait, I was desperate to lose it, but I didn't know how. I didn't drink much at that age, didn't go clubbing, assumed most guys weren't into me, had no idea of male signals of interest, when I thought guys were into me, it turned out they were gay...

I really wanted to have a boyfriend and lose it like that, and I'm happy how it happened (with a sort of on/off ex). Who as it happened was also 21 and also a virgin.

You shouldn't be ashamed of yourself. How could this possibly be your fault? I'm sorry that such a horrible thing happened to you.
