How old were you when you lost your virginity?

And if you have children old enough, how old were they?

I keep hearing about how kids are losing their virginity younger and younger now so I was curious to know how old you were, compared to your children.

I was 17. Dh was 13.

DD is 10 and still at the age where anything sexual grosses her out (thank god). They are currently doing sex education at school at the moment and she comes home horrified every time

I have no idea how old my DH was or his "magic number". And he doesn't know mine. Admittedly we met when I was late 20s and he was late 30s, so lots of history for both of us, but amazed so many people would ask or share this.

I would never have told my DH my magic number. He has never asked, but I would never tell. It's about 25, (before I met him obvs,) but if he had asked, I would have said 6 or 7.

It's a well documented fact that women down play how many men they have shagged, and men over-egg how many women they have shagged. So some women who say their magic number is about 6 or 7, have probably shagged quite a few more. (20 to 30.) Women who say about a dozen have probably shagged 40+ men.

Men who brag about 100+ women have probably shagged about 15 to 30 women. A few men have probably shagged multiple dozens, but most men have not. And every single one of them will exaggerate their 'magic number.'

I think I was 17 or there abouts. I went to college the next morning and I'm sure I met him in real life after my birthday so 17 would make sense. We were MySpace friends for a while before that (hey mid 00s teens!)

He was 24. He lied about his age and the fact he was divorced. I somehow didn't see this as a red flag or any of the others he waved in my face all the time and continued to date him until I was 20.

DH was 15.

SmellyNelliey · 21/02/2024 20:33

I was 17 and ended up pregnant 🤰

YukoandHiro · 21/02/2024 20:33

Yes good point @SweetBirdsong - I think my number is 10 or 11, but I did once lie when a guy outright asked and said 5 when it was about 8

FizzyStream · 21/02/2024 20:34

18 which I thought was quite late at the time

Stormbornform · 21/02/2024 20:36

Just turned 18, he was 21. I was the last in my friendship group.

SRK16 · 21/02/2024 20:38

16.. or possibly just shy of 16. Also normal within my friendship circle. Mist of us lost our virginity between 15-17. I was very keen to get it done and not be a virgin anymore, would probably have done it sooner if I didn’t go to an all girls school!

Ooops. Grin

Fantapops · 21/02/2024 20:38

I was 13 nearly 14. It was as consensual as it could have been between two 13/14 year old girls, but I deeply regret it. It gave me a really sexualised teenhood going forward, I'm in my twenties now and struggle with sex. It really sexualised being a lesbian for me in a way that I'm not sure would have happened had I waited and just had some early nice teenage romances of holding hands and the occasional peck.

imnotgoodenoughtobehere · 21/02/2024 20:41

20

buswankerz · 21/02/2024 20:42

18 and was much older in comparison than the rest of my friendship group who were 14/15

Meowandthen · 21/02/2024 20:44

I find it curious that this is still considered important.

Naturally, we all want it to be consensual and pleasant but having a penis in you doesn’t change who you are.

We need to stop giving men and their appendages that power.

ijustneedtokeepbreathing · 21/02/2024 20:48

Oneofthesurvivors · 21/02/2024 11:47

13, it wasn't consensual.

I'm really sorry @Oneofthesurvivors

I was 15 (normal age for my peer group), but not normal circumstances. It wasn't healthy, looking back.

My kids are still v young (eldest is 13). I hope they wait until at least 15 or 16.

Doowop1919 · 21/02/2024 20:51

DP was 17

  1. I was at uni, and was my first time living away from my family. I had had a very sheltered upbringing up to that point, and overcompensated wildly. Racked up a bit of a body count over the first six weeks until I met my (now) husband, and haven't shagged anyone but him since. He was a virgin and, (to my knowledge) I remain his only one.

Kids are 4 and 2, so hopefully well over a decade still to go.

Enchanted82 · 21/02/2024 20:58

I hadn’t even kissed someone until I was 15. I’m so shocked by some replies. How do you have a clue what you’re doing?

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 21/02/2024 20:59

17 and the week before I started university as I was under the mistaken believe that everyone would have lost it before university.

It was with a friend. I don't regret it but it was the most underwhelming experience as neither of us really knew what we were at. I kept saying "what the hell is all the fuss about?"

We lost touch over the years but I bumped into him again where he slagged me about my reaction & what a dent it was to his ego at the time. Repeat performance ten years later was much more enjoyable!

18 with my now husband (who was19). My Daughter was 15 and now gets why I was so upset.

SerafinasGoose · 21/02/2024 20:17

It counts to me, and I am the one who underwent that experience.

What a way to thnk of your first experience of sex/loss of virginity though. Wouldn't it be nicer to think of the time you lost your virginity as the time you first had consensual sex? x

Same for me. I’m really shocked by those who assume most people are sexually active as children.

agent765 · 21/02/2024 21:09

He was a decade older. I was groomed. I didn't want to but this man was clever enough to play on my insecurities.

Like most children, I wanted to be treated more as a "grown up" than a child. He played on this. Kept asking if I wanted to be a woman, saying I could never be a woman unless I'd had sex. I was also isolated from friends and family by him.

I ended up marrying him and then divorcing him when our very young-looking 15-year-old Saturday girl came to me in tears asking me to tell him to stop asking her to sit on his knee behind the shop counter.

@Enchanted82 I mean, some of it's instinct/films etc but really most people don't give their best performance/have their best sex the first time, precisely because they don't know what they're doing, especially when they're young.

Maybe porn means men have some idea what to do now (but supposedly it makes things worse.)

One of my would-be first times with a guy, there was literally no foreplay from him at all IIRC, to the extent that he couldn't actually have PIV with me, because I wasn't warmed up enough.
