I've kept everyone alive including ddog, dh is now home so all good. I'm being taken out for lunch tomorrow so have spent more time than strictly necessary studying the menu!
Going for a fancy salad then some amazing cake.
Roll on the weekend, 2 weeks of school to go, transition days next week for big school. I'm not ready for this.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/07/2024 23:37

"I've kept everyone alive..."

That's called winning @RunningKatie 🥳🥳🥳

SummerLobelia · 05/07/2024 04:04

I went to the school concert today. Then made BBQ chicken wings and jacket potatos. Now I am watching the Election results because DH has promised to do the school run. Last day of school today!!

This weekend I need to pack for our holiday. I won't be on MN much while away- only taking my phone and I can't remember my password!! (My laptop is permanently logged in).

Hope everyone has a good day.

Frostandfrogs · 05/07/2024 06:36

Morning all!
Catching up on election result/wordle/ connections/sudoku complete.
It's raining!
I have plans to hoover thoroughly today. Behind the sofa and everything!
And some journalling.

Best wishes to all. Have lovely hols Summer 😊

SummerLobelia · 05/07/2024 06:41

Thanks @Frostandfrogs Smile

Raining here as well! I have planted pepper and cucumber plants on our balcony (I swore I would not try veg again but could not resist) so they are getting nicely rained on.

Have a good day!

SummerLobelia · 05/07/2024 06:42

(P.S. An end-of-school-Margarita is planned for approximately 1 pm).

petalpower · 05/07/2024 12:46

Is that Marguerita poured yet @SummerLobelia ?

SummerLobelia · 05/07/2024 13:20

I went with Prosecco in the end. Smile

Cheers everyone. Thanks

Daily project Round 5
SpiritOfEdna · 05/07/2024 14:08

<hiccup> cheers and enjoy your holiday summerlobelia. A very lazy day here, up since early hours watching the election; but have also pushed a couple of work things closer to the finish line, so a little bit happy, a little bit burnt out 🤣 . Would love a glass of something but am abstaining to shift some pounds.
The most I’ve achieved is a very early trip to the supermarket to get some replacement readers and printing out 2 address labels!
cheers, SoE

Frostandfrogs · 05/07/2024 14:28

Happy friday @SummerLobelia 'hic!'

Ah *Spirit' I have made losing weight official as of today. I have never really dieted before (though talked about it!)but I am now a stone heavier than I've ever been. It's uncomfortable, my clothes don't fit and wearing a bra has become intolerable. So it's no sugar and no snacking and and HPF free all the way for me. I eat like a horse so should be the size of a house and I'm not, so hoping the weight will fall off ( post menopause so could be wishful thinking!) Good luck to you!

Have a lovely weekend everyone xx

petalpower · 05/07/2024 15:26

Cheers @SummerLobelia !
Exciting news chez Petal, the chap I had been trying to get round to fix various broken pieces of wooden furniture came this morning and has taken away two kitchen chairs that naughty Petaldog chewed when he was a puppy. They both need new stretchers. The chap will come back with these in a couple of weeks and take away the next things to be fixed. It will be so good to get them done - some things have needed fixing for as long as I have been with DH! None of them are big jobs but all need someone with a bit more than just DIY skills.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/07/2024 18:50

Just a general hello and thumbs up for all the tasks getting done.🥳 I've got my laundry on for a 2nd extra long wash with extra water as I over-filled soap dispenser. 🤦‍♀️. (Put the light on!!!)
Blitzed around wiping dust from under couches, sliding glass door tracks, deck railing, swept deck and put away dry laundry. Got into garden last night and tidied it up then planted rosemary, strawberries, peppers and tomatoes. Need to harvest lettuce and parsley tonight.
Temp to hit 28c and up to 30c into next week. 🥵
Trying to get Havoc ready for splash park/playground. Need to grocery shop later.

Frostandfrogs · 06/07/2024 08:39

Morning all! Petal it's such a thrill when you get hold of somebody really useful, isn't it? Felt the same when we finally found a gardener who wasn't 'too busy'. And you wasn't put off by my less than perfect garden.
Mum i too need lights for my washing machine! Hope Havoc had fun at the splashpark. We have one recently opened locally so I expect our little one will be checking it out soon!
I have a Smell in the living room. I think milk was spilt on the carpet last week so I plan to deal with that today.
My plan to empty the freezer hasn't gone quite as well as I'd hoped. But getting there. A few odds and sods meals happened this week.
Busy weekend here so probably catch up Monday.
Have a lovely weekend everyone 💐

Peridot1 · 06/07/2024 11:05

Hi all. Back from the north west.

It was similar temperatures to down south @SpiritOfEdna but with sunshine!

@petalpower - I think DS has actually been here more than he has been there to be honest so haven’t had that much time to miss him as he kept coming back. With washing! His main plan is to get a job. So fingers crossed for that. He is also planning a few days away in October with a friend. That’s abut the extent of his plans for now.

It will be lovely for you to have both of yours back home.

My trip up north was quite good. I love a few nights in a hotel on my own. I went to MIL’s house and it’s quite sad what a state it is. She has always been a bit of a hoarder but has gotten worse in recent years. And her nephew has moved in with all his stuff while he waits for a house purchase to complete which will hopefully be in a few weeks. I’ve come back with a box of things that were FIL’s. I said thanks but no thanks to his false teeth! He died in 1994. 🙄

MIL’s niece and nephew are sorting stuff out but being respectful. And organised! Nephew has sorted lots of things into categories and labelled drawers and shelves etc. I was a bit concerned that they would be getting rid of stuff but they are just trying to sort rooms out.

The work on our house started in Thursday after a bit of an issue with the joiner which almost culminated in DH pulling the plug on using him and losing the (substantial) deposit we have paid. We were cross! And he dashed out of here yesterday afternoon to make sure he wasn’t here when I got home as DH told him how annoyed I was. So next week will be interesting!

Today’s tasks:

  1. washing (already on)
  2. kitchen/dishwasher
  3. vacuum and wash floors as there is a lot of dust
  4. dust living room and get it ready for plasterer next week
  5. go through box of FIL’s things with DH
  6. towel wash

I meant to tag everyone but can’t quite remember who was doing what! I think @RunningKatie kept everyone alive. @SummerLobelia celebrated end of school with Prosecco, @Frostandfrogs has some family stress and a smell. Hope they are not connected.

Have a great day all.

SingleThreadJoiner · 06/07/2024 11:13

Happy rainy Saturday! At least here... And happy end of school to @SummerLobelia and family. We have two more weeks to go!

Thinking about all of those with family complications. The visit from PILs here this week has made it very obvious to us that we have difficult months ahead - including the fact that we live five hours away by car and H is an only child.

Family wedding tomorrow, so we're also hosting a cousin for a couple of days who lives abroad. Lovely to have her, but lots of rearranging of rooms required to put her up as well.

Other than that, just laundry and making sure meals are planned for all. And maybe some last minute tweaking of wedding outfits due to the weather... 🙄

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/07/2024 23:31

Enjoy wedding and family time Single. 😀
Epic post Peridot! 👍 Really enjoyed reading. I love a hotel room alone, too! I sleep So. Well. 😴
Frosty the Frog (see what I did there?😁) I'm curious about UK splash parks now. Could you post a pic if not outing?

cleaned bathroom sink and floor, wiped floor at entrance door and baseboards down hall the around bedroom door frame. Bought a wet/dry mop/duster thing that should reach under furniture so I can leave furniture in place. Is it sad that I'm all 🤗 about it?

RunningKatie · 07/07/2024 08:29

@Mumtobabyhavoc - we love a good splash park! I wish we has the weather a bit more often to enjoy them, my dc are now getting a bit old too. Dc2 would be keen but dc1 is getting to the awkward teenage stage. I need to start the bringing a friend malarkey to keep it going for another summer or so. I still want to do one this if we can get there!
No idea if that will work,
It's early on Sunday, washing machine loaded, dishwasher on, bread machine on. I need to sort a leavers performance outfit out and generally plan what day dc2 has to be where and with what.
Would quite like to do some gardening too, it's getting a bit of an unkempt jungle out there.
Happy weekend all!

SummerLobelia · 07/07/2024 08:41

Hello all.
Thanks to all.

We head off tomorrow on holiday so today is last minute packing and documents. And getting the house sorted. I learned a brilliant trick on MN about taking a photo on your phone of all the windows being locked and various electricals turned off. I am a total paranoid ever since being convinced I had left our electric blanket on when we went for a long weekend to Vienna so it helps me.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week and thanks for our lovely thread. ❤

Peridot1 · 07/07/2024 09:05

@Mumtobabyhavoc - it was an epic post in length for sure! Like the sound of your new toy. Love a new cleaning implement!

@SummerLobelia - have a lovely holiday! Great tip abut the photos.

I didn’t do all of my list yesterday. Need to get on top of the dust today judging by the amount I am sneezing this morning!

I did sort out all of DS’s clothes which have been taken out of his room and put into the spare room. They were mainly dumped in the bed. It involved clearing out a few drawers of random bits so I now need to sort them.

I did a list of tasks for upstairs so I can start chipping away at that today. Although I may just tackle the dust.

Happy Sunday all.

petalpower · 07/07/2024 10:02

Happy Sunday everyone! Have a lovely holiday @SummerLobelia .
I’m having a bit of a slow start to the day after an early morning phone call with my brother about my dad’s increasing Alzheimer’s symptoms. DS is now home so there are two cars worth of his belongings to bring into the house and store somewhere. DH went to help him move out and transport his belongings home to avoid hiring a van. They got home part way through the England match so we finished watching that before going out to a summer garden party in the evening. I’ve also got the chair lady coming to pick up two wing armchairs to take for reupholstering this morning. Very exciting - another job that’s needed doing for a long time. It was beautifully sunny here first thing but has clouded over now and I think we’re due for rain on and off for the rest of the day.

Frostandfrogs · 07/07/2024 15:27

Hello from a really quite knackered frosty the 🐸 Our little one is quite the whirlwind so have been trying to give her parents a break.
I have not the beans to tag anyone but lovely to read all your updates. Solidarity with those also dealing with ageing folk. I'm grateful that caring for mine has actually pulled us siblings closer, and I'm aware that this is often not the case.
Your comment about the the family stress and the smell not being related made me grin @Peridot1 Certainly no relatives buried under the floorboards as far I know...
I also have a wanderer returning this week, not for very long but I'm very excited about it!

The splash park round here is not a grand one - more like a playground with a permanent paddling pool but it looks like a fun way to while away a warm day.

My turn to cook for mum today and she is getting a uhp bung in the oven job for once ( see lacking beans ref'd above!)

Left to me we'd all be having beans on toast. I need a good reboot I think! Hopefully will be able to string a sentence together tomorrow!
Happy hols and happy wedding!

Hugs all round 💐

Frostandfrogs · 07/07/2024 15:28

There is no project happening here today but we did manage to clear up the toddler trail of destruction!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/07/2024 19:11

Happy Sunday, friends. 😎😀🥵☀️
supposed to get at least 30c here today.
have washed and hung a load of laundry and put a load away; vacuumed and tied up kitchen garbage so it's ready to go out. Will likely wash kitchen floor as I think the garbage is leaking, so must have a tear in the bag.
Vacuuming and washing floors can be a daily job, really.
I hear that "trail of destruction" comment.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/07/2024 20:37

Have now washed floor in kitchen, section of hall, front entrance and a bedroom; also two window sills, tracks and wiped their screens; and have taken garbage out. 😁

Frostandfrogs · 08/07/2024 07:13

Well done @Mumtobabyhavoc ! Laundry and mopping floors really are ongoing aren't they? That has remained so here despite a generally adult house. The thing that I never got to grips with was child bedrooms. I kid myself that knowing what I know now (ie flylady) we'd have kept a handle on it, but judging by my levels of child related exhaustion yesterday I have concluded that crap filled bedrooms are An Inevitable Phase. But I do like to pretend that if I could go round again, I'd be quietly organised ( and not accept every bag of pre-loved clothes and toys that well-meaning friends passed on) I keep this in mind when I get twitchy fingers on Amazon now. Sooo many lovely toys are available at the click of a button!

Today is flylady blah day round here. Thrilled to say that is isn't 30c though. With apologies to @Peridot1 in particular, I'm actually quite pleased with current English temperatures. It's definitely quieter in my little courtyard at the moment so I imagine everybody had all their windows open when I could hear them all first thing when it was warmer.

Hoping to get some stuff to the tip today. Gardener is great but just starting out, and doesn't have a vehicle big enough to do it at the moment. I'm happy to leave him to do heavy/clever stuff and we'll clear up the wreckage ( sensing a theme here 😂) I am thrilled to be looking at my more orderly garden though so I don't mind 💕

Happy Monday to you all!
