Morning all!

@Mumtobabyhavoc https://tinyurl.com/2p9kp9fk have a look here for some views of low-level splash pads 🐟

@Frostandfrogs I hope you recover from the toddler 🌬(that's supposed to be a whirlwind but it looks really weird on my screen)

We had a great wedding party yesterday, though looooong - 12 hours out of the house, including the driving time! But D LOVED the glamour and glitz and sparkliness and the disco dancing 🎤and being around so many family members. So it was well worth it.

Today I am sitting in a three hour meeting (hence being online here....) but there is SO much to do at home to 'reset' the house after hosting two sets of guests and temporarily having the D in our bedroom and everything. I've managed to throw on a laundry of towels already at least. We have another set of guests (babysitter + teenage brother + parents) arriving at the weekend so it's all go!

Other tasks for today are - chase replies to D's birthday party; chase people for teachers' end of year presents 😬; arrange birthday present for friend's D.

Happy new week!

Single, thanks for that! They're pretty much the same here. I saw some water features in the various pics that we have here. Must be the same companies that make the equipment.
Just woke up to feed baby. It's still quite warm inside as only went down to 22c last night and will likely be over 30c again today. Might just get a necessary load of laundry done and hang outside to dry on the deck.

SpiritOfEdna · 09/07/2024 14:09

Morning. The work thing that has consumed the last month had it's final presentation yesterday.and it looks like we lost the competition 😄Am a bit gutted for the developer, but glad as it doesn't mean more work for me 😄
Today:

  • look for some garden inspiration for a ladder thing we have - it is a dumping ground for secateurs and dead plants at the moment
  • am expecting an amazon delivery to make bunting for a birthday party. May do a sew along with Sewing Bee if not shifted for the football tonight
  • the clutch on my car is making rattling noises....
  • make an additional payment for SpiritDoggo to come on holiday with us (don't know why they dont include that in the published price)
  • look into an Eufy to do the floors I may be broken by dog detritus and grass seeds from her fur 😄
That's it for today, cheers all, SoE
RunningKatie · 09/07/2024 14:16

Sewing Bee has moved I think @SpiritOfEdna - sad times.

Wfh day today, one load of washing done but the basket is sat on the table waiting for the rain to end.

I had a quick sort in the dc's rooms this weekend, not especially obvious but I'm hoping to maintain the momentum over the summer, and they'll look much straighter by September.

Otherwise, just keeping up with the dc social lives and demands from school. The finish line is nearly visible.

@RunningKatie so it has! How annoying.

CountingCrones · 10/07/2024 13:39

Impressed by everyone’s industry as always.
I am bribing myself with the promise of delayed Sewing Bee tonight.

Today is a busy one, Fatted calf preparation and all that as prodigal offspring is home for a visit. So the chores are:

  • unload dishwasher and drying rack, wipe down counters
  • Put load of throws and tea towels in wash
  • bake tea loaf
  • make triple batch curry sauce
  • using sauce, make double of chicken curry, one lot of aubergine curry
  • bake cookies (white chocolate for left next door, sprinkles for right next door, milk chocolate for us)
  • bake scones, whip cream
  • marinate chicken for tomorrow’s Mexican food
  • soak chickpeas for Ramja
  • make bed with fresh sheets
  • tidy living room
Frostandfrogs · 11/07/2024 17:02

Crikey @CountingCrones 😂 My prodigal child is home too, but no fatted calf or cookies here. I am in awe of your list and feeling somewhat terrible as a parent now. But my lot have been coming and going for several years now so that's my excuse for not standing on ceremony ( and I'm sticking to it!)

I love seeing the offspring all hanging out together though. It makes my day 😊

I've done nothing of note today but attend a meeting about my mother. And decide what to have for dinner ( only for two tonight)

I may waft a duster about!

CountingCrones · 11/07/2024 18:40

@Frostandfrogs - I didn’t manage the cookies, I ran out of oomph.

I buggered up the scones by adding a full batch amount of milk to a half batch amount of everything else, so had to double up quickly so ended up with far too many scones. I gave the extras (with jam and cream, because you may as well do things properly) to the neighbours. By that time I couldn’t be arsed with cookie dough.

The Prodigal Son is the other foodie in the family. He just loves and appreciates things so much. I miss cooking for someone who enjoys it, so I go a bit overboard when he’s home.

Of the others, one hates food and regards it as irritatingly necessary fuel and the other prefers to cook for herself.

Did the big Asian supermarket shop this morning, made the Ramja, doing the coriander and lime rice and salsas ready for tonight’s burritos at the minute. Thankfully I have chilli in the freezer and prepped the chicken strips yesterday.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/07/2024 18:45

Just popping on to ask, What is too many scones? Never heard of this.

Yes I too am somewhat bewildered!

Frostandfrogs · 11/07/2024 19:07

@CountingCrones I understand your desire to cook for the family foodie! Makes perfect sense now. My cooking has certainly improved since I met the current MrFrogs as he is my biggest cheerleader and eats anything I cook with great gusto 💕 That does wonders for culinary confidence!
I am glad you are human and had a cba moment. You are truly one of us!

My lovelies have gone camping for the night so my beloved and I have the house to ourselves and we're enjoying the peace ahead of the littlest one dropping by tomorrow.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/07/2024 18:45

If you make scones without egg (my preference for super light scones) they are only good on the day you make them. (But they are very, very good)

I only wanted a half dozen for the three of us but accidentally made 12. And they are not small scones. So too many scones.

@Frostandfrogs , the number of things I cba about would fill a thread many times over. My housekeeping standards would make my Great Auntie Nellie weep.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/07/2024 23:11

Easy fix: eat more. 🤭🫣🤗😛

Says the person who goes out for cake every month to celebrate baby's birth. (Just for this first year...) 😛😛
ok, and pie a few times on a few 4-week marks. 💁‍♀️

eta: speaking of pie, baby is 28 weeks today and we are going out for pie and a walk at the beach...😄

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/07/2024 23:15

Should I chance asking jam or cream first? 🙀

CountingCrones · 12/07/2024 01:37

Happy 28 weeks, BabyHavoc! I hope your mum had plenty of pie to celebrate 🥧

If we ate all those scones we wouldn’t have had room for the really rather delicious curry. Don’t worry, though, it’s cookies tomorrow - assuming I get some sleep tonight.

I wouldn’t dream of wading into the “jam first or cream first” controversy. I am but a poor immigrant who knows nothing of such matters.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/07/2024 01:46

Counting, and I'm a cheeky Canadian far across the pond and safe from controversy. 😁

BTW, I've vacuumed, dusted and done a load of laundry. Waiting for rush hour traffic to die down before heading out.

I was gonna type Canuck! 🤣
I'm left coast in YVR. 😄
Are you now in UK?

Aria999 · 12/07/2024 02:17

Haven't fully caught up but jam first, obviously.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/07/2024 02:22

Aria, fwiw, I agree! Cream first just doesn't make sense! Far too messy. 🤷‍♀️

Aria999 · 12/07/2024 02:26

lol @Frostandfrogs I wish laundry and mopping were ongoing, both have ceased around here as I am flat out with work. Managed to assign one robot minion to the kitchen floor today but otherwise all cleaning has ceased for the foreseeable future...

Aria999 · 12/07/2024 02:27

@Mumtobabyhavoc right. If you put the cream on first it would instantly splurge everywhere as soon as you applied jam.

Yes, since I was 16, so I’ve been here since the age of dinosaurs 😉

On the jam and cream issue: it all depends on the type of cream. Clotted cream (as is traditional in Devon and Cornwall) can go on first without any problem, whereas whipped or double cream have to go on top or it’s an almighty mess.

I’ve started writing today’s To Do list and it’s depressingly long.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/07/2024 08:33

Cake was delicious. Lovely walk after through the neighbourhood as beach was busy for parking. To Havoc's delight, baby's horror and my relief at ticking an item off my to-do list, drove through car wash on the way home, vacuumed car, wiped it out and cleaned the windows/wind shield. Once home got dc washed up for bed and once they fell asleep I finished the left-over cake, in the semi-darkness of the living room, sitting here scrolling. 🤷‍♀️
I'm enjoying the quiet and the cooler air coming in with everything opened up for a bit. Bed soon. 🥱
