Loving the talk of flowers, my garden is full of lavender, which means lots of beers.

Been busy this evening, Paid for doggy boarding, and have done lots of washing. It's gone really cold here again so not much luck actually putting it out on the line.

DS is still coughing, it's like the gift that keeps on giving, it's just a repetitive cough - but oh my, when it starts it goes on for ages. Vicks on the feet does help even if he is replused by it!

SpringLobelia · 24/04/2024 07:21

Morning all!

That link is really interesting, @Mumtobabyhavoc thanks. Hope you got some sleep!

I will try that @Peridot1 .... I have little wheeled planter bases under the roses so they can be very easily moved around.

I love bees in the garden @RunningKatie . (And beers!). So hopefully I can attract them. I ended up buying 6 French lavenders and will plant them today.

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

Peridot1 · 24/04/2024 08:50

Thanks for that link @Mumtobabyhavoc - looks interesting.

I didn’t know you got beers with lavender @RunningKatie! Must tell DH. 😄

Hope DS’s cough clears up. It sounds exhausting. I’m sure I read somewhere years ago that sucking a square of chocolate can help. It coats the throat a bit so,can ease the tickle. He might prefer that to the Vicks. Or accept it as a bribe!

Our pots got delivered yesterday. Really pleased with them. Even though they were eye-wateringly expensive. It was DH’s idea so I’m blaming him.

They are on the driveway so I just need to not reverse into them later!

SingleThreadJoiner · 24/04/2024 12:03

Hello all, I am enjoying the floral discussions! We don't really have a garden, and I'm too incompetent anyway, but it's nice to picture all these lovely coloured flower combinations 🌷🌹

Mind you, not much to report here - plodding on with laundry, keeping up with D's activity bookings, and yesterday I did the baking soda on mattress thing and then vacuumed it a few hours later - D still occasionally has accidents and despite the mattress protector it can get a bit stinky 🙄

I've got Friday booked as leave so hoping to do a bit of decluttering/more thorough tidying then!

CountingCrones · 24/04/2024 12:11

Hello all!
I’m joining to hold myself to account to actually get something - anything? - done.

Today I want to empty, clean and sort the cutlery drawer, ditto the giant Cupboard Of Doom containing that enigma, Tupperware. So many pots without kids, kids without pots, and every damned one of them was paired up when i did it 6 months ago. There must be a wormhole somewhere to other people’s tub stashes and they’re all swapping about.

Then empty and clean the fruit and veg drawer in the fridge and - the day’s real challenge - cook something to use up all the sad items within. DH and DD have said “anything but soup.”
Ingrates.

Aria999 · 24/04/2024 14:22

lol @CountingCrones welcome! Good luck with the extradimensional Tupperware!

Yesterday all I managed was 3 baskets of laundry folding and mending two shirts and a pair of trousers for DS. Not sure where the days go!

Arguably I should not bother mending given I could replace things quite cheaply but it feels wasteful and DS doesn't like throwing things away...

Then I went to bed at 9.30 as was feeling utterly wiped.

Today; open the post and parcels. Tidy the upstairs. DS is off sick (again!) so that's probably all I will manage as I will need to take him for a doctors note.

CountingCrones · 24/04/2024 15:17

Thanks, @Aria999 - and it's always worth mending things. Mended things are better.

The extradimensional Tupperware has been forced to conform with the laws of physics and Marie Kondo. The rogue lids and pots are in the recycling bin, the good matching sets are neatly stacked for use in the kitchen and the rest are in the shed holding seeds, bird food and other various bits and bobs that needed tidying up.

The fruit and veg drawer is clean and contains a big tub of tabbouleh, a tub of the diced vegetables for mirepoix to have with salmon later in the week and some reasonable looking kiwis and salad veg to be used as and when. Things passed their human consumption point are either on the compost heap or with the hens as afternoon snacks.

Other bits of cleaning and washing done, so I'm giving myself a break.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/04/2024 15:24

Oh, bees! 🤦‍♀️ I was scratching my head on that one! 😂
(Was it something English? Meaning a lot of parties? Could it be bears? No, no bears there...) 🤔

Now, kids and pots is a lot easier to decipher. ☺️

Peridot, is it related to post-nasal drip? If so, it might be easier to treat.

Welcome, Counting. You made me google, "crones" btw. 😄
Aria, enjoyed your use of, extra-dimensional. 👍
Have been awake since 6:30am when baby woke up. Toddler woke up at 7. I've now got toddler cuddled beside me in bed and I'm hoping for a bit more sleep. Baby is back asleep.
The usual chores are pressing, but everything is tidy overall and laundry is under control having washed two loads yesterday, so likely will let today slide. Garden is calling and it's getting louder by the day...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/04/2024 06:47

I caved and did a very thorough vacuuming.

What has happened to @FrostyFogg 🐸
👋@SpringLobelia

RunningKatie · 25/04/2024 13:54

Apologies all! Yes there are bees and beers in our garden, but the lavender attracts the bees and the sunshine brings out the beers!
Our boiler is kaput today and it's ridiculously cold. DH has organised a man to fix it, luckily the man lives next door.
I'm having aged parent issues, very tiresome as I'm being made out to be obstructive when they want to blow all their savings. I can't find the words so am now not engaging.
Other than that, the car is full of cardboard that needs to go to the tip. I'm doing work paperwork and training today from under a blanket.

SpringLobelia · 25/04/2024 14:26

Hello all!

I contacted our wonderful FrostyFog and she is fine but real life is taking over for a bit. Hopefully she will come home to us soon. Thanks I hope she does not mind me just reassuring you all.

Hope everyone is fine. I am sorry about your aged parent issues, @RunningKatie . My dad sometimes says to me (when he is causing me angst) 'It can be hard to bring up parents'.

Welcome @CountingCrones !

I am in full lazy mode today. Our cleaner came and that seems to trigger a mental day off for me. But I have ironed some shirts and I planted out the lavender. I am out tonight doing some volunteering so am telling myself I need to rest up for it. Grin I did book a GP appointment for myself though and sorted out my work timetable for the next few weeks. That's enough really.

Best wishes to you all.

CountingCrones · 25/04/2024 14:45

Thanks, @SpringLobelia
Re: cleaners - I have just been a horrible, terrible neighbour. I’m so ashamed.

Next door’s two cleaners were playing music so loud when I was on the phone that I tried knocking on the wall. Then I went around and knocked on the door, which they ignored. Then I tried the window of the room they were working in, which they still ignored.
I had a Zoom meeting coming up.
So I texted my neighbour and asked if she could ask them to turn it down. It went dead silent.
I can’t leave my house while they’re around anymore, can I? Argh! I should have moved to the loft room and not been such a tetchy cow.

Today I’ve done lots of food prep for the freezer ahead of visitors next month and done boring admin stuff. I meant to do work in the garden but it was too cold and miserable.

I shall try again tomorrow.

Peridot1 · 25/04/2024 16:33

Hello all.

Welcome @CountingCrones! I think you were within rights to get the cleaners to turn down the music. They were being very anti social.

@SpringLobelia - glad @FrostyFogg is ok. I was wondering.

@RunningKatie - that sounds frustrating with your parents. Hope you sort it. Or they see sense!

Our cleaners came yesterday. And I had to email the owner afterwards to complain. Well I didn’t have to but definitely felt it was warranted. So that will be awkward next week. They come in twos and the one that was good has moved away and the other and the new person they’ve sent are just a bit sloppy/slapdash.

Anyway. I cleared out the walk in wardrobe in my room and got it cleaned. I’m now putting things back in. And decluttering at the same time. And washing some things to freshen them up. My bedroom is a mess though!

I have lots of admin to do but keep putting it off.

CountingCrones · 25/04/2024 16:36

I have decided to forgive myself for my lack of productivity because I did make a tea loaf and it is delicious. (Side benefit of tidying the baking drawer and realising I had lots of dried fruit to use up)

Aria999 · 25/04/2024 16:46

@CountingCrones I would have asked them to turn it down too but then I am an antisocial grouch by nature 🤣

SingleThreadJoiner · 26/04/2024 21:54

@SpringLobelia , thank you so much for checking in with @FrostyFogg - I had been wondering about her and it's good to know she will return to us at some point!
I hope everyone is ready for the weekend! I enjoyed my day off, and got some things done, but that included going for a lunch with a friend so not as much decluttering happened in the end 😂

But I still did: go to physio and to dentist; put loads of laundry away; take two bags of coffee pods to drop-off point for recycling; prepare a bag of textile recycling for taking to collection point tomorrow; get goggles and new swimsuit for D's swimming lessons; a load of laundry; flattened some boxes to put in recycling; listed a small bundle of clothes on local WhatsApp group and have a taker. Small things, but if enough of them get done, there is hope yet....

Have a great weekend all! 💃

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/04/2024 17:45

Finally got into garden last night! 😅
Only planted mustard greens, but did so with Havoc who was planting for the first time. It was very cute watching so much care taken with the tiny seeds. 🥹
Off to soccer shortly - in the rain....not unexpected.

RunningKatie · 27/04/2024 20:17

Weekend! It's been a busy day, it's still so cold here. Our new garden furniture has arrived so we're ready for when it warms up.
We need to do lots of sorting out there, which I had planned for tomorrow but just noticed that dc2's school shoes are falling apart. Change of plan.

SpringLobelia · 29/04/2024 09:46

Morning all!

I hope everyone is well and good this Monday morning. And that @Mumtobabyhavoc gets a decent sleep!

Today I have decided to reinstate the dining room into a dining room / homework room. The DCs have been doing homework in their rooms but have been a bit lax. And I am WAY behind on life admin. So after dinner we will all sit down to do our respective homework / bill paying duties.

Other than this I am up to date on washing and ironing and today have successfully delegated the garden to the gardeners. Result!

Hope all is well with everyone. Thanks

Peridot1 · 29/04/2024 10:20

Morning all.

After a bit of a miserable weekend it is nice to see some sunshine today.

Operation Moth is still a thing. Lots of the little buggers. Hoping I am almost done eliminating them. It has involved a lot of laundry though. Mostly shirts. So I have a lot of ironing now.

Today:

  • laundry - one load done and one in
  • dishwasher - done
  • kitchen - done
  • vacuum
  • transfer payment for a few events
  • book taxi
  • menu plan
  • do some more sorting in wardrobe
  • put yesterday’s laundry away
  • possibly a bit of gardening
  • gym

That’s a lot! Won’t all get done.

petalpower · 29/04/2024 13:13

I’ve got into a dreadful habit of reading the thread but not posting. Glad to hear the @FrostyFogg is ok - come back soon when life allows.
Today I need to:

  • visit auntie at the care home
  • book concert tickets
  • put some things on ebay
Jobs achieved:
  • sorted some threadbare socks for recycling ✔️
  • posted an eBay parcel ✔️
  • booked aquafit class ✔️
  • booked supermarket slot ✔️
  • found the bottom of the ironing basket ✔️
  • online banking ✔️
  • booked DH’s car in at the garage to investigate a funny sound ✔️
CountingCrones · 29/04/2024 14:24

Some good lists for today. I can't quite get myself together somehow.

SpringLobelia · 29/04/2024 14:38

One small thing @CountingCrones . Smile

@FrostyFogg (and earlier me before that) started these threads because we were all a bit paralysed. My first ever one daily project was changing the lightbulb in our hall table lamp.

Now when i am absolutely stuck and without motivation I do something teeny tiny. Then leave it all until tomorrow. Once I think I just washed the teatowels.

Forgot about them for 3-4 business days mind you, but at least they were done. Smile

I am tipping into demotivation now. My gardeners have not turned up and it's thrown me off balance. I've been off balance for a few weeks now tbh. Just not quite on top of things. So i am about to go out into what sun there is and will do a tiny bit of pruning.

SpringLobelia · 29/04/2024 14:39

Oh! And I have a letter to post.

That's enough for today tbh.
