Aria, definitely a horror. Not a typo. Deadline is end of month. Dropped everything off two weeks ago.

Since last posting have vacuumed, put dinner in oven, changed baby and now nursing baby. Also chatting with Havoc who is putting various things in an empty egg carton. Note to self: check carton before tossing into recycling bin.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/04/2024 23:56

Aria, ohhh quite a historic city. Beautiful, too!
Apply ice to leg! Sounds painful. 😲

Peridot1 · 17/04/2024 09:33

Hi all.

@Aria999 - sorry about your leg. Sounds nasty.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - you amaze me with all you achieve.

I haven’t achieved much as been feeling drained since the weekend. Zero energy. Feel ok sitting down and then I get up and feel exhausted. Then yesterday started sneezing. So I think it was a cold coming on. Cancelled a facial yesterday and my PT session today.

Feeling a bit better today though.

Need to do general tidy around for the cleaners.
Do a load of laundry
Strip a bed
Wash bedding
Put yesterday’s laundry away.
Take DS to neurologist appointment this evening.

Hope everything is ok with everyone. @petalpower

petalpower · 17/04/2024 21:19

All ok here thank you @Peridot1 but just a lot going on. Auntie not so well but dad is on an even keel at the moment. DD is still away travelling in Asia and has been unwell the last couple of days so I’ve been doing TLC via WhatsApp! DS has decided to move back home for a few months in between flat moves too.
Inspired by another decluttering thread I’ve been trying to get things out of the house and am aiming for 2024 things over the year! I’ve put a few more things on eBay, have sorted things for a charity bag (seeing my friend who works at a a charity shop tomorrow!), and got things ready to recycle and bin. I keep eyeing things up as I walk round the house and am getting a bit ruthless!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/04/2024 01:11

Petal, hope your auntie and dad will be ok. It's so difficult when our family gets older. You sound like you have a lot on your shoulders. Sending you support. 💕
Peridot, 2024 things to do this year? Eek!! I'm hiding then! 😲

Ending up having to vacuum again after I heard something break in the kitchen and little Havoc come running out. 😂 It was just a basic coffee mug, from a trip, that I liked, but it was just a cup. 🤷‍♀️Also had to wipe kitchen floor after Havoc's snack of cottage cheese and peaches, but am happy it was mostly eaten, so am not complaining that I had to clean up.

SpiritOfEdna · 18/04/2024 11:16

Morning, I may have escaped the escape room but I didn't escape (groan) catching the GNeice's bug that she caught from her mum! So have not done much this week beyond the essential meetings for work, one big presentation out of the way and another one next Tuesday.

Today

  • I need to find a paver/bricky. Had some work done last summer repaving the alley way between us and next door, well the edging bricks at front end where the alley joins the street pavement collapsed. Luckily sibling was wearing boots when it happened and has big clown feet 😄The guy who did the original work said he would send someone out, but no sign of them as of yet...
  • back on dog walking duty today.
I can't think of anything else - there is loads to do, but my brain keeps telling me to lie down 😄 Have a good day all, SoE
petalpower · 18/04/2024 19:20

Oh dear @SpiritOfEdna , the bug doesn’t sound nice.
How did your DS’s neurology appointment go @Peridot1 ? Hope all is well.
Thank you for your good wishes @Mumtobabyhavoc . Unfortunately auntie has advanced dementia and dad has Alzheimer’s and cancer so all a bit grim. I saw auntie today and she was on a bit better form than a couple of days ago so that’s a positive.
Today’s achievements chez Petal:

  • sent eBay parcel
  • met lovely friend for lunch and passed on a bag for life of charity shop donations
  • dropped off three pairs of old glasses at a local shop who send them to a good cause overseas
  • menu planned for next week and did online supermarket shop
  • visited auntie at the care home
  • washed a load of DS’s old pyjama bottoms that I found in the airing cupboard ready for sale on eBay (nice Boden ones) - he is now 24 and they were age 13-14 and 15-16!
Hope everyone has had a good day!
SpringLobelia · 19/04/2024 07:45

Morning all. I hope everyone is well and that your bug is soon gone @SpiritOfEdna

So much on your plate @petalpower Thanks

I am back from my trip. It was great fun but certainly too much wine and food and i am still recovering!

Yesterday I potted up a single standard rose. I have now completed my rose set on the terrace which I am pleased about. Today I am going into work this afternoon- it's usually a day off but I am catching up on hours after the trip.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Peridot1 · 19/04/2024 08:42

Morning all.

@petalpower - thanks for asking. It was pretty quick! Doctor didn’t seem too worried and didn’t think headaches need further investigation. Agreed with the GP who had said it was chronic tension headaches. He suggested DS stop taking painkillers for a while as they could be rebound headaches. Problem is DS can’t stop as he needs to be able to concentrate. So DS basically strong armed him into recommending a prescription for Amitriptyline. So now waiting for the GP to receive that.

I haven’t been achieving much more than the basics here this week. Did the tidy round for the cleaners on Wednesday who then didn’t show up.

I did help DH with a bit of raking of the bed along the back fence yesterday which wore me out. It’s almost ready for sowing the seeds now.

We have a guy coming to pressure wash the patio today. DH would normally do it and hates paying to have it done but he hurt his knee (yet again) a pond basically lost three weeks so he has lots to catch up on.

We still seem to have quite a few of the moths. And I didn’t get to sort my wardrobe so that is today’s job.

have a good day all.

SingleThreadJoiner · 19/04/2024 16:15

I hope everyone had a good week and the ill friends are feeling better. I can't believe how quickly Friday has come round! @Peridot1 sending more good vibes against the moths...and how frustrating for you to have a no-show from the cleaners!

@Mumtobabyhavoc I damaged my ACL - at least it's not torn - but it's hurt enough that makes a lot of things uncomfortable. Next physio appointment in a week's time, curious to see what they will tell me.

H's laundry activities at home are continuing apace, the other day he put through the chair cushions from the kitchen chairs which REALLY needed a wash and we were pleasantly surprised by how well they turned out!

Other assorted small wins of the week include taking a bag to the charity shop, setting aside a couple of things for a friend with a younger D than mine, doing the online shop, organising birthday presents for several upcoming children's birthdays, booking train tickets to Peterborough for a funeral in a couple of weeks' time, and trying to keep up the putting-away-5-things in a room thing, with mixed success.

Far too busy weekend ahead - we've managed to book ourselves morning and afternoon both days, plus the carpet fitters to show us samples, and in fact more than one thing on Sunday afternoon - we'll be exhausted by Sunday night!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/04/2024 21:08

Everyone is so busy and I'm in bed with baby to have a nap! Managed to get Havoc to school this morning, register baby for same class, send email re taxes, get myself a crunchy salad and cuppa for lunch (then a handful choc chips for dessert) get Havoc down for nap and am now back in pj's with baby to nap.

Hoping things get better for your ds with meds Peridot.
Ugh STJ, I've had bilateral mcl injuries, so can relate. Don't rush rehab.
Petal, I'm sorry to hear of their medical conditions. One thing to deal with is bad enough, but it's so hard to treat conditions when the patient had a form of dementia. Strength to you. 🩷

I'm sorry if I missed anyone. Eyes are closing here and baby has just fallen asleep.

RunningKatie · 19/04/2024 21:21

Nap well baby Havoc!
Been a busy week, I went out last night for a lovely meal with my work friends. Dh was also out for a bit so the dc were flying solo. All good thankfully.
I'm working an event at the weekend, it seemed a good idea at the time of volunteering, now the reality is hitting. Next week will be a long week, thank heavens it's not too long to a bank holiday.
Dc2 is coughing again, it had improved but has got worse today. Roll on the warm weather.
Hope everyone is ok despite injuries.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/04/2024 05:15

How is ds, Katie? Better, I hope. Glad you had a night out. ☺️

petalpower · 21/04/2024 09:42

That’s good news that the neurologist wasn’t too worried about your DS @Peridot1 . How is DC2’s cough @RunningKatie ?
In my decluttering quest I managed to throw out 46 things last week which I’m quite pleased about. I’ve also listed a few more things on eBay and have sold a jumper and a pair of goretex trousers that were an odd shape and size and never really fitted. DH is continuing to get jobs done which is quite out of character for him! We have friends staying for the weekend so I won’t get much done today but will be back on it tomorrow.
Have a lovely day everyone!

SpringLobelia · 21/04/2024 10:20

Morning all.

Hope everyone is fine and all loved ones as well. Thanks

gardening day today. I have decided that other than the regular household maintenance stuff I am going to focus on the garden over Spring and into summer.

Today I need to water pots and will put in plant food. Plus consolidate some of my geraniums although I may put some in various garden beds.

My plan is to target the entrance to our front door again. It's looking a bit ratty and needs a weed. Plus a cobweb sweep and wash down of the path.

Peridot1 · 21/04/2024 11:57

Morning all.

@petalpower - yes it’s a relief. Hoping the medication helps.

@SpringLobelia we are gardening too. We finally finished the wild flower meadow bed yesterday and sowed the seeds. Today we are apparently weeding the larger of our raised beds ready to plant the veg plants DH has grown from seed. I also need to look for some standard roses. Yesterday we ordered four large (and very expensive!) terracotta planters to put along the back of the house and the plan is a standard rose in each one underplanted with lavender. I think!

On Friday I started sorting my walk in wardrobe. I took every that was on the floor and put it in my bedroom. And that’s as far as I got! So I’m going to concentrate on that tomorrow.

Not planning on doing much else today other than the garden stuff. And I might do a list.

SpringLobelia · 21/04/2024 12:45

oooh! underpinning the standard roses with lavender. Great idea. I was thinking about what to do with mine. My usual go-to is lobelia (natch) or trailing geraniums. Lavender much better and as the patio leads to what i plan to be a lavender bed then this ought to 'draw the eye seamlessly'. (cough... Gardeners World alert).

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/04/2024 23:13

Spring, I seem to recall planting geraniums with roses to ward off aphids. I wonder if that works for other pests to roses. I love both lavender and lilac, though.

Peridot1 · 23/04/2024 07:58

@SpringLobelia I think we’ve decided against standard roses in favour of shrub roses. The pots we ordered are 70cm tall so I think standard roses will be too high.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - I love geraniums and hadn’t realised they can help with aphids. Will bear that in mind!

Now I’m trying to decide whether to get four white shrub roses or two white and two pink?

SpringLobelia · 23/04/2024 08:59

Hmmmm. interesting query @Peridot1 . What is the background the shrub roses will be against? All white can look quite spectacular (my parents have an all white flower garden) but a lovely pink can break it up nicely as well.

Also did not know that about geraniums!

I feel a trip to the garden centre coming on!

Peridot1 · 23/04/2024 09:07

@SpringLobelia - the pots will be against a red brick wall. And they are terracotta pots.

SpringLobelia · 23/04/2024 09:08

I think I'd be going for all white then. They will stand out really well IMO (although I have to say i am not that good at visualising things in advance properly!!)

Peridot1 · 23/04/2024 09:20

Yes I’m thinking white too which was my initial plan. But then I spotted some gorgeous pink ones……..😄

SpringLobelia · 23/04/2024 09:50
Grin

The standard roses I got are two white and two deep pink. But the pots are super pale terracotta and they stand against a a cream brick background. I've had alot of worries it might look matchy matchy if I alternate the white and pink but will have to see how it turns out.

Peridot1 · 23/04/2024 10:07

I’ve ordered the white!

Yours sounds lovely. My plan if I got pink as well was to put the pink either end and the two white in the middle. That might work for yours?
