@Mumtobabyhavoc 😂. I had to think about that too for a minute. And you are inspiring and have achieved loads!

Waves at everyone else 👋

Operation Moth will intensify today. Discovered four of the little sods in my walk in wardrobe last night so today is a major sort out and declutter and vacuum of that room. I have started it and never finished it quite a few times since we moved in. So today I am going to take everything out of it and get it sorted once and for all. And hopefully get to the bottom of the moth issue at the same time.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - they are just annoying little ones. Not horrid big ones. Thankfully! But they are the ones that do damage.

Hanover99 · 09/04/2024 10:07

Hello may I join in please? You are all very inspiring getting lots done and I need a good kick up the bum! My problem is I am a major procrastinator and chronic overthinker. I tend to think about things for hours on end then I just don't do the thing even though that means I'll think about it all over again tomorrow and it consumes me for days. I want to be the kind of person who says today I'm going to do x and just do it. Perhaps if I write on here what I'm going to do each day I might actually achieve it. So here goes.....

Today I'm going to:

  • Finish work project - it's my day off and this should have been done in work time, but you know, see above!
  • Write thank you cards - I have thought about this every single day for almost a month. I have everything I need to get it done except the confidence to write what I want to write and get rid of the things!
  • Post passport documents
  • Sort registration for work otherwise I'll be out of a job next week
  • Clean bedroom and bathroom - I would love to be doing 20 mins a day but didn't do anything yesterday so although it's a new week I'm already behind.

You all seem like a very friendly bunch so I hope it's ok to dump all of this here.

SpringLobelia · 09/04/2024 13:13

Welcome @Hanover99 !! It is great to have you join us!

I am an overthinker and procrastinator as well and tend to get paralysed when i have lots on my list. This thread has helped immensely. Sometimes my achievements are small and sometimes big but I can certainly see definite progress!

Writing thank you cards is exactly the thing I will put off, then brood about!

Today I went to B&Q and bought two standard roses. Plus some potting mix. i have to go back for another 2-3 standard roses but my little car is teeny and that's all I could fit in it!!

But I had a big success in that I persuaded the DCs to start decluttering the playroom. I persuaded them by saying 'we'll only do 10 minutes and i'll set the alarm'. We'll do another ten minutes each day for the remainder of the week and see where we get. DS1 has inherited some of his dad's hoarding tendencies and he did a stirling job of choosing what needed to be thrown away. We'll do another day of 'chuck' and then a day or two of 'charity shop' and then assess.

This afternoon I am washing all bedclothes and making a smug spagetti bolognese.

Hope everyone is well. Thanks

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/04/2024 13:29

Welcome @Hanover99 ☺️you've made a very good list! 👍 Let us know how it goes! 😄

Spring, do you have aphids there? There one, and only, time I tried to grow roses the aphids were relentless. The stems were covered in bright green voracious aphids. I dprayed with dish soar/water mix, but it was too late. I'm gardening this year after a very long layoff. It's going to be very simple: a few veggies and strawberries. I want to introduce it to Havoc.

Peridot: goid luck eith Operation Moth!!! 😬

Birds have been chirping quite loudly for at least a half hour. Heading back to bed and hoping it will not keep me awake.

SpringLobelia · 09/04/2024 13:51

Hello @Mumtobabyhavoc ! We have been really lucky that aphids don't seem to be a huge problem where I am. We do have alot of black spot which I actually don't do anything about because I'm too lazy but this year I might try something natural to see if it helps.

Good luck @Peridot1 on the moths as well! They are so destructive.

Peridot1 · 09/04/2024 15:29

Welcome @Hanover99. I’m a huge procrastinator too. And then brood. And panic.

You have a long list. I would advise just get one thing done. Probably the work if it’s urgent. I have found trying to tick off a list that is too much just makes me procrastinate even more.

So. Operation Moth. After I posted this morning I went upstairs and checked the sticky traps I put out yesterday. Nothing in a few of them but quite a lot in others. I am hoping that that is most if not all the males and the females will gradually die off. I can hope! I did do some sorting upstairs but not the sort out I need to do. I went to the gym instead. This afternoon I tidied my bedroom which was a mess so I can start on the wardrobe tomorrow.

Aria999 · 09/04/2024 15:48

Good luck with the moths everyone! Evil little blighters!

Today:
Clean the kitchen
Unpack from our weekend trip to see the eclipse
Open the post

Time permitting:
Tidy the upstairs
Clean the bathrooms

Aria999 · 09/04/2024 15:49

Hi @Hanover99 good luck with your list!

petalpower · 09/04/2024 17:01

Welcome @Hanover99 . We’re a very friendly bunch here and all are welcome! I would echo @Peridot1 ’s comments about that being a long list with a few complicated sounding tasks.
After a flurry of activity yesterday I am feeling less inspired today and have been dealing with an annoying family situation which has really got into my head. I have still been to aquafit and visited auntie at the care home and am going to meet an old friend for an early dinner which will be nice. I’ve sorted out cardboard recycling, changed and washed all the towels (and nearly had them blow away in the ferocious wind) and negotiated sending a pair of DH old waterproof trousers to the charity shop so I will count those as wins for the day. Tomorrow I really must get into the greenhouse and plant some seeds!

SpringLobelia · 10/04/2024 10:50

Morning all. I have just completed a 90 minute blitz on the downstairs. I have managed to put some things away and cleaned the fridge and the microwave.

Now I am about to persuade the DCs to do their 10 minutes declutter in the play room and then time to get changed and go to the cinema.

petalpower · 10/04/2024 15:48

How did you get on with your list @Hanover99 ?
Today has been far more productive chez Petal. I have:

  • planned food for next week including having friends to dinner on Saturday night and needing to include vegan food
  • added to the online supermarket shop
  • cleaned the bathrooms
  • cleaned and sorted the greenhouse and planted a whole load of veggie seeds
  • cleaned the spare room and made up the bed for a friend who is visiting at the weekend
  • put away all the china and glasses from a cupboard in the dining room that had to be emptied and moved for the carpenter’s visit
Peridot1 · 10/04/2024 17:03

That sounds like loads @petalpower!

I feel I haven’t done much today.

  • tidied for cleaners
  • went to gym for PT session
  • did dishwasher
  • did two lots of laundry

Need to do a shopping list for Costco for tomorrow too.

SingleThreadJoiner · 10/04/2024 17:34

Hello! I'm finally back - great to see everyone again and welcome @Hanover99. I think there is too much to catch up on so please forgive me for not acknowledging everyone individually except that I join in the War Cry Against Moths!! Sending strength!!

I haven't been posting because I've been away - either staying with friends or in-laws from Easter until this morning - so very little opportunity to Get Things Done, though I did manage some life admin that gets done online such as organising the child's school lunches, her dance class bookings, and booking a flight for this summer (not all in one day!). We got back this afternoon after 10 days away and trying to get back into the swing of things. Started off on the right foot by doing two loads of laundry already!! Go me.

D isn't back at school until Monday, and tomorrow is back-to-back meetings from 9am to 2.30, but luckily both H and babysitter are around to take care of that. (sadly they can take care of the child but not the meetings....)

Many of the big scary deadlines that were looming over me before Easter have now been met, so I am sincerely hoping for an easier few weeks ahead, and less of the post-bedtime-work....and maybe some better work-life balance overall!

Aria999 · 11/04/2024 16:25

Glad things are easing up a bit @SingleThreadJoiner

Today I have posted the tax returns and done DS's summer camp forms.

Now I have a multi stage tidy and move furniture project to make more space for his sensory swing before he puts his feet through the windowpane...

Peridot1 · 12/04/2024 08:45

Hi all.

Operation Moth still continues although I haven’t yet done the sort out of my wardrobe that needs to be done. Catching quite a few in the sticky traps though. I feel guilty but needs must.

Haven’t achieved much last day or so. Yesterday was mainly shopping. A Costco trip in the morning with DH and then a supermarket trip in the afternoon. I also collected a prescription and took some expired batteries to get recycled.

Today is:

  • ironing some shirts
  • tidying the hall which has become a bit of a dumping ground
  • quick shop for a few bits I forgot yesterday
  • charity shop drop
  • duvet to be laundered
  • and prep and cook dinner for tonight as we have friends coming
  • normal kitchen tidy and vacuuming of downstairs

Have a good day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 12/04/2024 10:42

Another one back 🙂although from nothing more glamorous than dog-sitting. The house is a mud -fest from SpiritDoggo walking in the muddiest soppiest parts of the park and not being able to keep on top of it so today will be de-mudding all the floors. We have GNiece coming for a sleepover tomorrow so the house will need to be tidy, at least. Work is ramping up again - we had a re-org, everyone downed tools while it was going on, we are moved to a new pillar and it is ramping back up, with nothing changed 😁 @Hanover99 I know what you mean, I was contemplating taking a day's annual leave to get one project just back up and running again!
Today

  • mop those damned floors
  • clear all the worktops
  • put all the washing away
  • take out all the recycling
  • put all the tools back in the shed (it's like groundhog day with that task)
  • the bathroom needs a good scrub
Have a good day all, SoE.
Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/04/2024 12:51

Morning all 🥱
Operation Moth is a bit frightening to me. 😲
Will be reading gardening news here with interest. 🤓
Wondering where Easter went. Time flies.
Have been having lovely after dinner walks with Havoc for a good hour and am amazed at how quickly little legs have adapted! Last night we were stomping in puddles and running in bursts along sidewalks. It was only a few weeks ago I had to continually pick up Havoc who is now walking well over 2k.
Baby is coming up on 16 weeks and the smiles and giggles are gorgeous. 🥰

Blitz during naps yesterday and cleaned baseboards, some walls and door. Bath mats washed previous night and put back last night after hanging to dry (unused bedroom has drying rack and is the horror room atm).

Robins are chirping. Must get back to sleep. Havoc to optometrist today.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/04/2024 12:53

Spirit, enjoy gniece visit. 🥰
Good weekend to everyone. ☺️

SpringLobelia · 12/04/2024 14:06

Afternoon all.

We seem to have lost some of our esteemed friends- I hope not for good.

@FrostyFogg @lucysmam @TawnyT are you all there? Hope so much that you are all well and just taking a break because lots of lovely exciting things are happening. ❤(Sorry- I'm not trying to cyberstalk either... Blush )

I am back from work and about to start a 2 hour upstairs blitz. Ironing, decluttering and cleaning. I am putting on nteflix to keep me company. It's hard to convey how messy the house is right now. I just can't seem to keep on top of it at all, and I am away next week as well for a long standing girly trip (hen party). Feeling very overwhelmed with it all.

So.... 'see' you all in a couple of hours. Thanks

SingleThreadJoiner · 12/04/2024 16:30

Thanks @Aria999 , it really is. 💜
@Mumtobabyhavoc , how lovely to have those walks! Good work Havoc!
@Peridot1 sounds like there is progress being made...

Not much happening here yet until D is back at school, but I did see the physio this morning who told me that I damaged (but luckily not tore!!) my ACL when skiing two months ago, and need to be careful and do all my prescribed exercises, and on the way back I refilled a bottle of shampoo from one of the local refill places. I also started making a meal plan for the week - as in, I wrote down the days of the week and then got distracted 😂

D at a playdate this afternoon (H drove her, then he was going to charge the car but I think got lured by coffee and cake!), and another one tomorrow afternoon, so things are nicely sorted on that front....now just need to remember what the school weekday routine is like!!

SpringLobelia · 12/04/2024 20:58

Ouch on the knee @SingleThreadJoiner Thanks

Hope so much it is better soon.

Days of the week is a very good start. Can't meal plan without that. Smile

I did a solid 2 hours upstairs while simultaneously watching Darkest Hour on netflix. I like having something on in the background as I move about doing chores. I did not do nearly as much as I thought I would in that time- 3 loads of ironing, changing bedclothes in 2 rooms, putting all decanted recipe books back in our bookshelf, rearranging the linen cupboard, emptied litter trays, and put cat baskets into the loft. Nothing major, but it all seemed to take ever so long.

Then after dinner I did 45 minutes downstairs. You would think the place would be amazing, but our house is so cluttered with crap and things which have no place to call home that it never seems to look any good and i find it quite depressing at times. I really need to work out what to do re storage etc.

I also made a roast chicken which I spiced with honey, orange juice, cinnamon, and a bit of paprika. Even DS1 ate it.

Tomorrow DH is taking the Dcs swimming. While that happens I am cleaning out our wheelie bins and potting some plants. Then we are all going to a play.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/04/2024 22:20

Spring, your dinner sounds goid! I might try that seasoning combo! Buzzing around like that really works, doesn't it?

Aria999 · 13/04/2024 06:01

That actually sounds pretty good for 2 hours @SpringLobelia !

I had a day off today. It was lovely!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/04/2024 06:31

Aria, did you do anything special or just enjoy taking the day at your own pace?

Both dc are asleep, so I've done 2 loads laundry and hung it up; dishwasher is almost done; and I've just finished my mini 15 min strength workout. Have boiled kettle and have got a bottle soaking and did a quick touch-up clean of bathroom. Hands and face moisturized and am in bed. Going to load a few podcasts and go to sleep. Night all. ☺️

everything ok @FrostyFrogg 🐸

SpringLobelia · 13/04/2024 08:08

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/04/2024 22:20

Spring, your dinner sounds goid! I might try that seasoning combo! Buzzing around like that really works, doesn't it?

Thanks, it was really delicious! The only thing is that you need to keep it covered with foil until the last 15 minutes or so otherwise the honey burns. I did not time that bit very well. But it was delicious.

Hope you get a decent sleep @Mumtobabyhavoc and glad you had a nice day off @Aria999 !

I am girding my loins to tackle the wheelie bins. Ugh
