Please can somebody explain the hype?

I have friends (I am 50) who were seriously sad when they didn't get concert tickets (not in UK) and others who did, who were practically celebrating.

I don't get it. Don't want to ask for fear of looking like a twit.

For context, I have a 16yo DD and she just rolls her eyes and says wouldn't be caught dead at a TS concert. So no help there.

No one needs you to 'get it' just carry on as you were.

It's really not weird to ask why there is so much hype around her in particular.

She is a shrewd business woman. I think too many people presume that because she is a woman, has blonde hair and her fans are also mainly female, that she is an idiot. But she is anything but.

Someone bought the rights to her music from underneath her and she used it to her own gain. She has re-recorded and re-released every album she made. Making her older music available to a new audience again.

She uses social media to her advantage with Easter eggs and things like that. She refuses to say who her songs are written about but then does stuff like write a song about an on/off relationship called 'Style'. Wonder who that was about 🙄

Personally, I like her music. I think she is an amazing song writer. I wouldn't sell my granny to go and see her live though. The movie of her show will be on Disney Plus next month! Watch her live in the comfort of your own living room for a tenner!

Yeah, so you've said. For someone apparently so completely uninterested in TS, you do seem very drawn to threads about her.

she dated Matty Healy who has done Nazi salutes at his concerts because it's so damn funny, mocked East Asian accents, and spoken about how he enjoys watching extreme porn which degrades black women in a horrendous way - and all this in the space of the last year, he has a long history of being a despicable person. No Taylor didn't do or say these things, but it speaks volumes of what views and comments she tolerates around her.

google her private jet(s) stuff. she is trying to use her billionaire status to intimate a 21yo college student into not publishing publicly available information about it which is legal btw, because it makes her look bad. Not exactly nice girl behaviour.

I agree - time and place. Post covid times might have a bearing too.

Stadium tours - especially amazing ones highly sought after too.

Some people don't like their celebrities to have principles. Some people don't like feminists. Some people don't like women who pov locally criticise men.

This isn't explaining the hype 😁

Some people get a kick of not liking people other people like. It makes them feel special.

Does TS do these things?

Lots of artists write their own songs.
We only know about the values that she promotes herself as having - how much a reflection of the real person that is we really don't know.
Lots or artists are intelligent (smart).
There's loads of non-fake musicians around, if you look.
I hope your daughter appreciates a whole host of female role models, not just billionaire singers.

@SummaLuvin I agree, Matty Healy is a prize one, but she has moved on. I don’t disagree about the private jet thing either, but a lot of celebs seem to have form for this.

I think she's very talented, has good stage presence and charisma along with seeming quite hard working and normal. OH wanted to see her live but I'm quite relieved we didn't get tickets as I feel quite uncomfortable paying that much money.

I'm liking her a little less since she seemed to blank Celine Dion at the Grammy's. Ok she was probably caught up in the moment but it still seemed incredibly rude, and the whole "oh my god I'm so shocked I won!" I found quite cringey

Matty Healy is definitely problematic and she ditched him pretty quickly. Some say he was just a distraction from her last breakup. It was never going to be serious.

I can't stand him and do think it was a massive error but we all make shit choices sometimes.

I wasn't comparing musical ability. Just saying the hype is comparable.

Indeed. Especially if it's (mainly) young women doing the liking. Must therefore be shit / fake, by definition.

Do we know what the whole CD snub was/is about?

In a sea of manufactured bands and Kardashian style influencers she is a genuine talent who writes her own music. She’s also been the target of all sorts of nonsense from the likes of Kanye West which she rose above with grace. I think she’s a great role model and the hype is well deserved.
