Has anyone else seen this horrible news story? Apparently 9 people have been injured, looks like the original targets were a woman and two children.

What is WRONG with people?!

The version I read did say ‘targeted’

We assume that she and her DC were new arrivals to UK because of where they were living. But we don’t know anything about how long he’s been here, or (if immigrant) what his status is. Has it been confirmed by officials that he is father of the DC?

He was living in Newcastle, but she and the children were in an immigration hostel in Clapham. If the mother and children were recent arrivals, how did he know her? It's worrying if she has had to be moved hundreds of miles away from him, and he's been allowed to just pop on a train with a bottle of bleach or whatever it was.

I missed the location in Clapham

How awful if what is written here is correct

I used to have a male friend who just would not discuss this. He was firmly of the opinion that women were as violent as men, that male violence just wasn't a thing. Any statistics were just coincidences. Female leaders started as many wars as male, because you know, Thatcher, Hilary Clinton. I remember him just shutting down several conversations: "I'm not discussing this". I wonder what he was afraid of, hey?

He's not a friend any more really.

I think this kind of view is pretty much mainstream. No matter what men do, they're defended.

Boke · 01/02/2024 14:40

Well I could possibly help them out. Toxic male behaviour, entitlement, seeing women as possessions and lesser than, domestic violence, woman fleeing domestic abuse....take your pick.

Totally agree. There are so many utterly mediocre toxic men about these days. Society just seems to enable them.

For those closet racists jumping on this to justify their vile opinions - get your facts straight. The attacker and all victims are white. As seen by eye witnesses and reported to the police and media. Keep your prejudice to yourself.

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims ❤️

Wrong

I bet some other man is sheltering him somewhere. Probably some other man's wife is being expected to take care of him, too.

Hope I'm wrong.

It could be anyone. I don’t think the relationship to the woman and children has been confirmed - or maybe I missed it

crumblingschools · 01/02/2024 14:53

@beastlyslumber I think one of the women who ended up in hospital got burns because she cuddled the little girl not because this arsehole poured acid on her. She and the other people who rushed to help were so brave.

So hopefully he isn't a threat to anyone else now, unless you try to apprehend him. Wouldn't like to be the police who have to catch him but hopefully they can taser him so don't have to get close to him (pity they can't shoot him)

Notaflippinclue · 01/02/2024 14:54

I'm afraid Abdul seems to be winging his way up north at this very moment

AppleCrumbleGrandma · 01/02/2024 14:54

What a useless pathetic man may he face the full weight of the law. His intention was clearly to cause both physical and psychological injury. A cretinous man. Hopefully the woman and her babies get all the care in the world. I also hope her family support her.

CaveMum · 01/02/2024 14:56

@EasternStandard this from the BBC reporting:

  • Police believe the suspect, a man, and the woman are known to each other and the attack was not random

Thanks that could just be known not random, not necessarily together but something else

How do you know? He could be literally anywhere. The police have only said he may be making his way back up to newcastle.

Wrong

Unless this attack turns out to be motivated by reasons that relate to race, it is entirely irrelevant what race he is.

White people commit acid attacks too. Unless there is something uncovered that shows it is directly linked to race, and I’m not sure what, then race isn’t relevant.

Cantalever · 01/02/2024 15:01

I think you need to familiarise yourself with the meaning of patriarchy - among other definitions - the use and misuse of male power, which is endemic in society. It is so all-pervasive that we often don't even see it - which i think is what you are doing.

AppleCrumbleGrandma · 01/02/2024 15:02

@CaveMum The majority of perpetrators and victims of crime are men. Women suffer disproportionately from severe domestic abuse at the hands of men. The majority of construction site workers are men. The majority of mechanics are men. The majority of sewer workers are men. Men have a stronger innate inclination to take risks. Straight, gay and bi men are more likely than straight, lesbian and bi women to commit sexual assault. The majority of rape victims are women. Men are more likely to commit suicide. Men tend to exhibit higher levels of direct and physical aggression, while women tend to engage more in indirect and relational aggression. Of the individuals who work in the four most dangerous jobs, more than 90% are men. Of the individuals who work in healthcare, most are women. It is generally accepted that men cheat more than women. Over 90% of people working in the beauty industry are women. Women make up nearly 70 percent of the world's poor and 65 percent of the world's illiterate. The majority of stay-at-home parents are women. The majority of single parents are women.
Hold onto your hats, folks, because here's a startling revelation: men and women are inherently different!

Grannysmithsfrisbee · 01/02/2024 15:02

As soon as I heard about this, I thought "this is a domestic incident" and the perp is known to the victim.

People just don't and chuck bleach, drain cleaner, whatever at others on a whim.

That doesn't help the victims though.

I'm saying it's incorrect that the attacker was white.

Race completely irrelevant of course, but I'd people are keeping their eyes out for the offender, they need to know what they are looking for

crumblingschools · 01/02/2024 15:03

@CaveMum ordered that book

pontipinemum · 01/02/2024 15:03

I honestly don't think I know what to say. Those poor kids. That brave woman and her partner running out to help. I really hope they catch him and throw away the key

Mainats · 01/02/2024 15:04

Marchintospring · 31/01/2024 23:31

When you say “people” it’s 9 out of 10 times a man responsible.
We really need to use the right words if we want to tackle this.

Edited

Make that 9.99 times.

CaveMum · 01/02/2024 15:07

@AppleCrumbleGrandma what's your point? Of course men and women are different. Is that an excuse for male violence? Can the poor dears not help themselves?

I was responding to comments that "women do this sort of thing too", I was simply pointing out that the overwhelming majority of violent crime is committed by men, therefore it is not a leap to call this terrible incident yet another case of male violence towards women and children.

herewegoroundthebastardbush · 01/02/2024 15:14

God I hope the shitbag doesn't top himself before the police catch up with him. I want him to suffer in prison.

True. Apologies, I’m a bit worked up about the race thing as I’ve seen some horrific racist comments across the internet regarding this subject and it’s infuriating. Apologies, I need to step back!

SlightlyJaded · 01/02/2024 15:14

Oh FFS, and now we have to bite down in frustration whilst the police and media all tiptoe around the obvious truths.

Entitled, dangerously misogynistic male - POSSIBLY raised in a culture that is still even more steeped in misogyny than here.
Partner tried to move on to get escape regular unpleasant behaviour - that may or may not have gone as far as abuse
Man decided to teach her a lesson
Man's hate for partner is greater than his love for kids
Partner is punished in the worst way possible - by seeing pain inflicted on her kids and then herself. Cos 'that'll learn her'.

And yeah yeah... we don't 'know that' yet.
But we do really.
