Has anyone else seen this horrible news story? Apparently 9 people have been injured, looks like the original targets were a woman and two children.

What is WRONG with people?!

What kind of sick animal intentionally pours acid over a child? 😡

I hope he gets 20 years.

There needs to be some different terminology introduced to describe these incidents. A way of reassuring the public that a deranged person is not on the prowl looking for a random victim without using the word “feud” or “domestic”.

I really detest the implication or inference that violence is in any way less serious because it happens within a dysfunctional relationship or within the home.

Domestic violence is violence full stop.

That's true but it's to prevent alarm in the community. It's shocking that this man has done this to his family, but he's much less likely to be a threat to the wider public. I think it's fair to make that information known.

Pretty sure that a man who is capable of throwing acid on his three year old daughter is a threat to literally everyone, and people should be alarmed.

We don't actually know it's his daughter yet. All we know at this stage is that they were known to each other.

The version I read did say ‘targeted’

We assume that she and her DC were new arrivals to UK because of where they were living. But we don’t know anything about how long he’s been here, or (if immigrant) what his status is. Has it been confirmed by officials that he is father of the DC?

Agree.

A misogynist attack by someone known to the attacker.

Only we're not allowed to think of misogyny being the motivation for male pattern violence.

Domestic has so many echoes of the dismissive past "it's only a domestic".

It also needs to be understood that men who go on to commit mass violence are often discovered to have a background of committing domestic violence. Partners are chosen because they're women, and because of easy access.

CaveMum · 01/02/2024 14:29

70% of crime is committed BY MEN
98% of sexual offences are committed BY MEN
84% of violent crime is committed BY MEN
93% of "possession of a weapon" offences are committed BY MEN
89% of public order offences are committed BY MEN

So yes "NAMALT" but it is almost always men.

I don't think that makes it any better or makes him any less of a threat.

Family annihilators tend to be a threat to their families and themselves, not the wider public. I'm sure nobody will rest until this man is in custody and it's extremely upsetting for locals, but it doesn't seem likely he will harm other people's children given that his motivation as seen ad nauseam is to hurt his wife.

CaveMum · 01/02/2024 14:32

TylaTiga · 01/02/2024 14:20

Is it for legal reasons? You know how they can’t say certain things in case it ends up getting dismissed in court later?

Possibly, that might be the case.

It also gets my back up when they say "it's an isolated incident" - violence against women and girls is endemic: a woman/girl dies every 3 days in the UK at the hands of a man. If we keep saying "oh it's an isolated incident, no need to worry" then we will never take it seriously enough to actually tackle it.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 01/02/2024 14:32

We should think it. We are allowed to. It's just that some people don't like it.

BBC London reporting he escaped on foot and has an injury to his face so here’s hoping it’s a chemical burn that I assume will go untreated.

He put EIGHT other people in hospital, besides the woman and her kids (who we're assuming are his family.)

I get what you're saying but this is an extremely violent man, carrying out violent attacks in public, who is clearly a threat to anyone who he perceives as being in his way.

Bloody awful. Hope they find him soon, surely he can't get far with a serious facial injury.

TiredCatLady · 01/02/2024 14:39

This disgusting waste of flesh slammed a child into the ground multiple times and poured a caustic substance over two little girls and a woman, and run the woman over. Please don’t tell me someone this fucked up isn’t a danger to the wider public. There are no excuses - I don’t give a flying one about his background or his trauma or him being “temporarily insane” or whatever absolute horseshit they’ll come out with to try and excuse it because they always do. He needs to rot and I’ll save my compassion for his victims.
I feel for the three women and the man who went to try and help - this won’t ever leave them.

I bet some other man is sheltering him somewhere. Probably some other man's wife is being expected to take care of him, too.

Hope I'm wrong.

The Met saying they have 'no idea' of suspect's motivation.

Well I could possibly help them out. Toxic male behaviour, entitlement, seeing women as possessions and lesser than, domestic violence, woman fleeing domestic abuse....take your pick.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 01/02/2024 14:43

EvelynKatie · 01/02/2024 14:12

The Met saying they have 'no idea' of suspect's motivation.

I suspect they have every idea, but don't want to prejudice proceedings.

We know the woman and children were known to the assailant, so not a random attack. It's up to the CPS to establish the motive once he is arrested and charged.

The number of people on here who are trying to deny that these sorts of attacks are committed by men in the vast majority of cases is very worrying.

I used to have a male friend who just would not discuss this. He was firmly of the opinion that women were as violent as men, that male violence just wasn't a thing. Any statistics were just coincidences. Female leaders started as many wars as male, because you know, Thatcher, Hilary Clinton. I remember him just shutting down several conversations: "I'm not discussing this". I wonder what he was afraid of, hey?

He's not a friend any more really.

You are allowed to. It's only on MN people seem to think that you're not.
