Has anyone else seen this horrible news story? Apparently 9 people have been injured, looks like the original targets were a woman and two children.

What is WRONG with people?!

God I hope the shitbag doesn't top himself before the police catch up with him. I want him to suffer in prison.

Problem is they don’t bloody suffer do they?

9 in hosp now, the police only
minor injuries.

It’s such a pretty little street. 3 down from where Sarah Everard was taken.

You obviously don’t know the area then… Clapham has 2 sides, the posh side and the not so posh/naice side. Actually what I mean to say... I suppose it can happen in any part of London. But what I know from being a Londoner (DM's parents were both from Clapham, Elms Road and Lavender Hill/Northcote Road) and having spent many years living in various parts of London including on Clapham Common Southside is that many areas live cheek by jowl - so nice/not so nice. In fact I went for a walk on Clapham Common just the other weekend, had overpriced tea/latte and cake in the cafe next to the bandstand and drove down Elms Road. There are certain parts of e.g. Battersea though which I definitely wouldn't step foot in after dark and Clapham too.

It's a horrific attack. Scummy little twat who did this.

70% of crime is committed BY MEN
98% of sexual offences are committed BY MEN
84% of violent crime is committed BY MEN
93% of "possession of a weapon" offences are committed BY MEN
89% of public order offences are committed BY MEN

So yes "NAMALT" but it is almost always men.

Ah, so that explains why there are a lot more men in prisons than women. Thanks for that, it makes senses now /s

Notaflippinclue · 01/02/2024 15:19

20 years ? £1000,000 cost of prison to tax payers then benefits for the rest of his miserable life, no I hope he does the honourable thing but he's too much of a coward

The internet is now awash with racist comments about this attack and any discussions about male violence are buried. White men can just distance themselves and point and say, look, Muslims.

It could well be any race. But obviously as the man has been named as presumably Muslim then he is.

Male violence is horrific though.

Absolutely

Oh FFS, and now we have to bite down in frustration whilst the police and media all tiptoe around the obvious truths.

Entitled, dangerously misogynistic male - POSSIBLY raised in a culture that is still even more steeped in misogyny than here.
Partner tried to move on to get escape regular unpleasant behaviour - that may or may not have gone as far as abuse
Man decided to teach her a lesson
Man's hate for partner is greater than his love for kids
Partner is punished in the worst way possible - by seeing pain inflicted on her kids and then herself. Cos 'that'll learn her'.

And yeah yeah... we don't 'know that' yet.
But we do really.

The race thing is a collossal red herring. You don't have to be muslim, or asian, or arab, to hate women and assault them and murder them. White men do it every day. Just as Tories emphasise small differences to distract from their class war, the significant thing to note here is that this is male violence against women. Men (of any and all races and religions) are the biggest threat to women as a group. And it is a significant threat. I refuse to be distracted from that by race-baiting.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 01/02/2024 15:30

@TypicalCoach we don't know if he's an immigrant or if he was born and brought up here.

Plenty of Britush men commit acts of violence against women.

1.3 million women in the U.K. experienced domestic abuse last year. I don’t think it’s just other cultures which are misogynistic, we have enough of a home grown issue too (and also, we know nothing about his background - he may have grown up here for all we know).

It is not racist to highlight cultural / religious differences and their impact on people’s behaviour. And suggesting it is racist is facile , defensive and prevents justice being done. As we can see from the Rochdale cases. As an example.

Similar to suggesting that biological men shouldn’t be in women’s private spaces / prisons/ sports. It’s not transphobic 🙄.

  • an estimated 1.3 million women and 695,000 men aged 16 to 59 years had experienced domestic abuse in the last year
CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 01/02/2024 15:37

I agree with @Blanket601 culture whether born in the UK or not, plays a role.

SlightlyJaded · 01/02/2024 15:43

Agree the race thing can be a dangerous smokescreen, but do we not 'make a stronger case' by acknowledging that many predominantly Muslim countries are especially steeped in misogyny? So therefore this scumbag is an example of Entitled Male Plus? My father is from (and was raised in) a predominantly Muslim country in the Middle East and he would say that the culture of men thinking they are superior to women is far more evident in his home country that in the UK, and that violence against 'disobedient' women is almost 'acceptable' in many circles.

So surely, by acknowledging that extreme myoginy leads to violence against women - and using examples of men whose culture particularly reinforces male superiority - we can more effectively force dialogues that consider legal approaches to tackling misogynistic based hate?

I don't know if I've worded that very well, but I think i am trying to say that yes - all men of all colours and cultures can be problematic - but if we look at typically VERY male-dominated societies - we see the worst of this behaviour, so have stronger arguments for forcing action/change.

I do think anyone committing these crimes should be put in prison for life, they seem to be happening far too often.

Put to prison for life only AFTER they’ve been doused in acid themselves 😡

Exactly. The Tories and their right wing media mouthpieces love to causes division by blaming all problems on those who are different. Don’t fall for the distraction.

It’s misguided statements like this that led to the Rochdale grooming gangs getting away with it for years.

Obviously, statistically, wrt to violence against women, men are an issue. Men from certain cultures with certain beliefs, are even more of an issue. To deny this is to deny victims justice. And to deny reality. Wake up.

Marcipex · 01/02/2024 15:57

@Blanket601 is right.

LakieLady · 01/02/2024 15:58

CaveMum · 01/02/2024 14:32

Possibly, that might be the case.

It also gets my back up when they say "it's an isolated incident" - violence against women and girls is endemic: a woman/girl dies every 3 days in the UK at the hands of a man. If we keep saying "oh it's an isolated incident, no need to worry" then we will never take it seriously enough to actually tackle it.

It's actually closer to every other day: 177 women killed in 2021, and that was a drop on the previous two years.

And the nature of the crime tends to be very different. Men are more likely to be killed in drunken brawls or violence associated with other criminal activity, esp drugs. When women are killed it tends to be one on one, and either by a random stranger or a partner. Femicide is the result of men hating women, either generally or specifically.

This is the problem. And some daft women fall for it. Despite the hordes of men, often white men, who go on violent rampages in streets, homes, schools.
