Has anyone else seen this horrible news story? Apparently 9 people have been injured, looks like the original targets were a woman and two children.

What is WRONG with people?!

100% on board with these posts, and I do think the worm is turning. The smug sanctimonious left are dwindling in numbers, and I do know a few (younger) people - like under 30 - who were like Gary Lineker, and over this past 3 or 4 years they have moved away from 'the left.' There are a large amount of people on twitter/x too who are anti-left, and are sick of all the wokery.

And this is a problem, because 'the left' and liberalism has fought for and won many things that we take for granted today - universal suffrage, most employment rights including the five day working week, fair elections (well mostly), most of our rights under the law, etc - often with their lives.

Conflating everyone on the liberal side of the political and social spectrum with the more fringe elements who unfortunately get all of the media attention (because it sells papers, but also because those in charge would rather have us fighting among ourselves than looking at who is really responsible for how things are going) will just lead to an over-correction, a swing to the right and then an authoritarian regime that, surprise, surprise, will be even better at diverting wealth into the hands of the already wealthy whilst at the same time removing as many of those rights as quickly as they can.

@SquirmOfEels

I do think when they arrive here they should get informed that women here are equal to men and have the freedom to dress how the please and have more choices. and whatever rules applied to the treatment of women in their original countries does not apply here and will not be Tolerated .

That’s never going to be the case whilst people who have settled here still think it ok to send their 13 year old daughter to Pakistan to get married!

Girl, 13, is saved from a forced marriage to her cousin in Pakistan

The wedding of the pretty, dark-haired child had been arranged secretly by her father - but was halted at the 11th hour before she was flown back to the UK last weekend.

Nobody talks about the cost- 10 years in prison £300,000 then rest of his miserable life on benefits - prowling the streets - not to mention the cost to the poor victims with life altering injuries

I was going to say but he will be deported after he’s released but look at the Rochdale grooming?!

Yes, the country is done and ranks like third world type because of the crimes happening in our streets daily. It was an amazing place, secure and safe but it is really gone out of hands. The worst is to come and god help all the innocent people. Just break my heart to hear of so many deaths. Talented young people lost in the last few years to crime and violence. Specially women and kids. It is like a nightmare.

Smidgen of hyperbole there.

There were 109 homicides in London in 2022. New York City (which had thousands of homicides per year at its worst, is now one of the "safest" cities in the US after a clampdown on crime (including stop and frisk, which supporters say reduces crime, but civil rights advocates say it is racial profiling), with 491 homicides in 2021.

A city praised for having "just" 491 murders for a year, while London (or more generally, the UK), according to you, "ranks like third world" for 109 murders for a year.

Quoting Forbes below;

"In 2015, there were 372 mass shootings in the United States. There were 33,636 deaths due to “injury by firearms.” Guns were used to kill only about 50 people in Great Britain, the country with a "culture" arguably most similar to our own. Omar Mateen killed 50 in Orlando in a single day. More people are typically killed with guns in the U.S in a day (about 85) than in the U.K. in a year."

Since 2015 it's got even worse in the US where over 40k die by fiream per year.*

Stopping Gun Violence: Time For Innovative Solutions

By Jeff Dyer The recent mass murder in Orlando has many of us thinking about the problem of gun violence in America. Let me start by stating that the evidence that we have a problem is overwhelming. As a strategy professor at BYU and Wharton I look for...

You're joking right? The left love fighting among themselves while the right are able to bury any differences in order to hold on to power and make money. Why else have we had 13 years of the tories and invariably get far more right of centre governments even when there are more left of centre voters?

FFS it's the tories (the centre right) who have had all that time to do something about immigration and what have they done with it?

But we’re not asking a goat to wear a shirt, tie & work in a bank. In this case don’t throw acid in women & children’s faces! Thousands of other asylum seekers manage it, but for some unknown reason some men seem to struggle.

The tories have been in power for 14 years and you are blaming "the left" for the state of the country? Nice try!😀

Do you think people like him integrate well into our culture?

Bunbryist · 01/02/2024 23:36

Not RTFT but I feel that prosecution and sentencing decisions seem to be made for the benefit of lawyers and an open debate including the electorate needs to take place.
For attacks such as this one, I would like to see a long sentence with no release before the victim is returned to the position they were in before the attack. Additionally, where was the consultation about concurrent sentencing? Persistent burglars or violent offenders who make vulnerable members of the public afraid to live freely, should serve a separate sentence for each crime they are convicted of.

That's blatantly racist, and so offensive to the countless (large majority of) refugees and other immigrants who are decent and law abiding people.

Then how do others manage to integrate? This is a person who refuses to see the error in his ways, who views women as second class citizens even in a country he was never welcome in. The problem isn’t solely his birth country he has some accountability to play here. Those sort of mitigating factors I’m sure will be thrown out when he’s charged & I hope to god there’s nobody like you on the jury

I've asked the night watch if this can be hidden so the mods can have a proper clean up tomorrow. The out and out racism is shocking.

How is it racist when I've clearly said he's the product of his upbringing and not his race? Please be careful not to conflate race with culture, they are not the same thing. In fact, that's a bit racist to do so.

Voted Tory all my life, never will again and nor will any Conservative voters I know because, sadly, the Conservative party is now a left of centre party, supporting unbridled immigration, Net zero, and all that other lefty shit.

Obviously the left are too far up their own behinds to see the right wing as anything more than a homogeneous hateful blob.

I would imagine he injured himself while carrying out this terrible and chaotic act.

I would highly doubt she ‘attacked him first’

I’m pretty sure it’s common they an acid attacker gets scarred from it also.

This cannot be a serious question. You disparaged an entire nation of people, likened them to animals and suggested that they couldn’t integrate. That you have the effrontery to claim that this is not a racist is shameless. Those goats have produced some of the bravest women’s rights activist on this planet. Go read a book.

You'll be deleted soon so not sure why I'm arguing the point, but:

Racism
The inability or refusal to recognize the rights, needs, dignity, or value of people of particular races or geographical origins. More widely, the devaluation of various traits of character or intelligence as 'typical' of particular peoples.

MCOut · 01/02/2024 23:51

Let me be clear, I’m in no way defending this man. But by presenting this as an issue of asylum, you all are doing a disservice to a great number of abused women and girls.

The proportion of the UK that is asylum seekers is 0.6%. Many of them will be women. When you decide to contribute to an already hostile environment for asylum seekers you are furthering a situation which already has these women fearing to go to the police when they’re victims.

There is a problem with VAWG in the police, in the armed forces, after every England football loss etc. Be honest with yourselves about what most of these perpetrators look like. How is it helping women and girls to create a stereotype especially when these men make up less than 0.6% of the population? All races can be perpetrators and all races can be victims please try and remember this.

@JaneyGee We live in the UK so the man next door who attacks your hypothetical single mother probably isn’t going to be Arab or Somali, just saying. Mind you, across Mumsnet you always manage to find a way to disparage people of colour. There is a word for that.

AboutYouTalk · 01/02/2024 23:51

Quelle surprise. This thread has turned into a ‘let’s blame all asylum seekers and brown people for Britain’s ills’. Bringing up Rochdale grooming into the mix…smh.

The man who did this is unhinged and dangerous, let’s concentrate on that and the fact he’s still out there? Mostly, let’s think of his poor victims who include children? It’s likely he is known to them.

Katie Piper was attacked by her ex and his accomplice with acid, both black men but she went on to marry a black man and have children with him because she’s intelligent to know not all black men are like that. Be like Katie Piper.

For avoidance of doubt, this man needs to be caught and dealt with severely, he’s a danger to society and should not be released.

MCOut · 01/02/2024 23:56

Now that this thread hopefully gets back on track, I’m really glad that they’ve named him and put out his picture (despite the inevitable racism). That was something that I found very frustrating because it is a highly populated part of London so surely the public can be of help.
