Acid attack in Clapham

Has anyone else seen this horrible news story? Apparently 9 people have been injured, looks like the original targets were a woman and two children.

What is WRONG with people?!

@Salaaaaaaaah I said crime not homicides. Third world crime types. The acid attacker did not kill anybody but he is a criminal. I talked about crime and mainly the increases in the last 10 years and our likeness to third world countries in that respect. Being in denial is part of the problem. Stop and search would help and zero tolerance to DV. Immigrants specially those that we do not have their previous criminal records and commit crimes should deported without any appeals.

Hello everyone, this thread was very much derailed last night by some pretty inflammatory posts many of which we have had to delete.

May we please remind everyone to post within our Talk guidelines. Those who don't may have their accounts suspended and this is something we would rather avoid if we can. We're re-opening the thread for now.

Please continue to report any posts which give cause for concern.

Rest assured when Labour gets in they will make sure the asylum system is overhauled so hopefully this won’t happen again.

<hollow laugh>

You really think that virtue signalling, bleeding heart liberalism will die a death under Labour? I realise that this shit show happened on the Conservatives' watch, but Labour aren't going to stop the boats or make it harder for people to claim asylum or make it easier for the UK to deport failed asylum seekers and foreign criminals. I bloody wish someone would, but if a right-wing government have failed then I doubt a left-wing one will even try.

It must be sarcasm

Labour are ignoring it so far

Bridgetta · 02/02/2024 13:44

FFS it's the tories (the centre right) who have had all that time to do something about immigration and what have they done with it?

They’ve done nothing. Nobody who cares about this issue has anyone to vote for, in all honesty. They will never respond to what people actually want

EasternStandard · 02/02/2024 13:48

Tbf the whole deterrent thing is all there is and it’s gone through multiple court cases and people opposing it from every angle

It has taken ages

And still there will likely be issues with someone converting to Christianity as the split was over whether to allow various things

If you don’t want someone like this to use the system you’d have to go hardline like Aus

Bululu · 02/02/2024 13:52

Would KS do better? He was a human rights lawyer and most urban areas are run by Labour MP and Mayor of London is Labour. As far as I know the left is always against about how the Tories are trying to deter the boats. Come on get real.

pointythings · 02/02/2024 14:11

@Bululu and this is how we're going to end up taken out of the ECHR - use the thin end of the wedge. And then they'll come for workers' rights and the rest of it, because that's what Tories do.

I'll take the human rights lawyer and some solid political pressure to tighten up laws on deporting people who have committed serious crimes.

If this acid attack was his first crime your process wouldn’t stop it. Or others who do similar

No one has a crystal ball to tell us which asylum seekers will go on to commit a first crime once in the UK. We have to accept that some will do so in the sane way that we have to accept the some people who are born here will end up criminals.

The only alternative is to not accept asylum seekers at all.

EasternStandard · 02/02/2024 14:37

We can do better just deter and vet those we take prior to arrival

IClaudine · 02/02/2024 14:42

How can you vet people when the system currently doesn't allow asylum claims to be made prior to arrival?

EasternStandard · 02/02/2024 14:43

Well that’s what I’d change

Deter all boats and vet capped number

Notaflippinclue · 02/02/2024 14:45

Is the DNA of every illegal actually taken on arrival? If not why not.

GreekDogRescue · 02/02/2024 14:45

It’s funny but every other thread on here is massively pro unrestricted immigration and if you question it you are deemed a vile raycist.
Looks like even the woke people are now changing their tune.

StandardLFinegan · 02/02/2024 14:45

AboutYouTalk · 01/02/2024 23:51

Quelle surprise. This thread has turned into a ‘let’s blame all asylum seekers and brown people for Britain’s ills’. Bringing up Rochdale grooming into the mix…smh.

The man who did this is unhinged and dangerous, let’s concentrate on that and the fact he’s still out there? Mostly, let’s think of his poor victims who include children? It’s likely he is known to them.

Katie Piper was attacked by her ex and his accomplice with acid, both black men but she went on to marry a black man and have children with him because she’s intelligent to know not all black men are like that. Be like Katie Piper.

For avoidance of doubt, this man needs to be caught and dealt with severely, he’s a danger to society and should not be released.

^^. I totally ageee with everything written here.

At the same time I think we need identity cards so that we can keep track of offenders, whoever they are, as the police waste a lot of time trying to establish someone’s identity and whereabouts.

Edited

But how do we know if they’ve been committed of crimes in their country of origin? We don’t.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 02/02/2024 14:52

Blah12345678999 · 01/02/2024 17:07

Blame the CPS then… who actually decides on the actual sentencing for a specific crime apart from judge and jury?

My comment wasn't about people who have committed crime in their country of origin. I was replying to Easternstandards point about how even vetting etc. won't identify those people who haven't previously committed a crime but go on to do so once in UK.
.

EasternStandard · 02/02/2024 14:57

Vetting is better than not.

You can impose as many hoops as you like to try to get the most law abiding people

When Aus asks for information for visas it is a very high bar, there’s still a small risk but it is very much reduced

YesSirMam · 02/02/2024 14:58

There hasn’t been any updates as to his whereabouts? They must be able to track him to quiet a distance. Wouldn’t he likely die from infection without treatment?

IClaudine · 02/02/2024 15:02

It is scary that he is out there somewhere. He was last seen in North London. Perhaps he has friends there who hiding him.

EasternStandard · 02/02/2024 15:04

We could have a system that keeps this criminal out and the woman and child plus those hurt wouldn’t have life changing injuries

pointythings · 02/02/2024 15:17

EasternStandard · 02/02/2024 14:14

It wouldn't, true. But if 100% prevention is what you want then your only option is 0 asylum seekers and 0 immigration.
