How old were you when your periods stopped

Just curious as I'm 51 and they're still regular.

OP posts:
MyNanSaid · 23/11/2023 09:14

54 and they're becoming more rare. I've had 4 that I could say was a period this year, though definitely not as heavy or as long as previously!

My mother was 58! 😱

Menomeno · 23/11/2023 09:14
  1. Feel like I’ve aged 40 years in the past 4 years since menopause.

  1. My final period was horrendous and had to go home from work to get clean clothes. That was it. No menopause symptoms, no hot flushes, zilch. Just able to get on with my life. Feel very lucky.

Exactly the same here and same age . Never mentioned to GP and had never heard of peri menopause.

Freysimo · 23/11/2023 09:17

50, luckily no hot flushes, mood swings etc. Just stopped and that was it.

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 23/11/2023 09:18

I was 35. Literally 5 years ago this week - I spent Christmas worrying I was unexpectedly pregnant.

Choccyp1g · 23/11/2023 09:19

48, fairly regular till then, so wouldn't have guessed it was the last one, but I remember it because of where I was.

Hot flushes etc lasted from about 45 to 63

Swedemom · 23/11/2023 09:19

I'm 47 and my periods have gotten irregular or basically stopped. No other symptoms like hot flashes yet though so I guess it's perimenopause. Slightly early though as my mom went through menopause at mid 50ies. But I've had problems with my thyroid for a long time and then cancer in it and removed it almost two years ago and that can cause an earlier menopause.

Scorchio84 · 23/11/2023 09:20

38, last year, I'm devastated because I'd love another baby

WWYDlookingafterdad · 23/11/2023 09:21

Am 43 and keep thinking I'm going to have my last. Over the last 3 years I have had bouts of 6 to 8 months of none, then 2 in one month. I've also had severe anemia after an eptopic pregnancy though and am never sure if that triggered that or part of peri-menopause. It's so unclear what to do. I've had bloods taken; first time GP missed that I was anemic completely and second time agreed. Nothing said about peri-menopause so I don't know how to find out more officially.

SirVixofVixHall · 23/11/2023 09:22

52 or 53, I can’t remember! I went on HRT before they had completely stopped as my Mum had osteoporosis.
I would have liked them to carry on further through my fifties.

Missingthesea · 23/11/2023 09:42

60 - I thought they'd go on forever 😱

FridgeJenga · 23/11/2023 09:49

@DisplayPurposesOnly thank you, I’ve never been sure. So my last period was 16 months ago so I can say I am in menopause now?

@KnickerlessParsons , @amerthecat @Missingthegore
Absolutely the same for me, we were on holiday, I had to launder the bedsheets!
Definitely felt like the final clear out 😨

Slitheringheights · 23/11/2023 09:53

I’m 51 and they are still going strong. In fact I’m due just now and have the worst pmt ever you could imagine. Mind you Iv got covid and going through health issues. But do wish my periods would stop 😩

JesusAndMaryPain · 23/11/2023 09:57

Last year I had 3.
This year I've had 2, even on HRT where you can reportedly expect a regular bleed.
I'm 49.

Did you see a GP? Seems so young?? Sorry about that if nothing you can do.

TheFairyCaravan · 23/11/2023 10:06

51 . My maternal grandmother was 37, my mum and sister 42 so I was expecting it to be a little bit earlier than that.

bengalcat · 23/11/2023 10:07

50

mondaytosunday · 23/11/2023 10:13

55 more or less. Fairly sporadic by then. I was regular as clockwork til about 52/53.

adriftabroad · 23/11/2023 10:15

45 menopause.
Last period at 43. Just stopped.

53 now and definitely eat a third of what I did 10 years ago.

Just not as hungry and have completely gone off anything unhealthy (and meat)

Same weight. Always have been.

Ohnoooooooo · 23/11/2023 10:17

50 although at 53 had a bleed for 8 days and went to gynaecologist who checked me out and everything was fine so described it as my last hurrah!!

PilatesPeach · 23/11/2023 10:19

had just turned 47

I did, I was actually there for bloods for a different reason & it was like "oh let's just do a full panel whle we're doing this" & they came back & my FSH levels indicated I was very much depleted, thank you for your kind words, it's a pain in the arse but I'm very lucky to have my son

HardcoreLadyType · 23/11/2023 10:24

I’m 55 and have only had one missed period about 5 months ago, then straight back to normal.

I spoke to my GP recently and she said her mum had kept going until 58.

Jasmin1971 · 23/11/2023 10:25

49, but they had been going haywire since 44, five years of peri awfulness

gabsdot · 23/11/2023 10:25

I had my last period when I was 51. I though I might be sad about it but I really am not. I had a bit of spotting last year due to a polyp and I was so annoyed thinking they'd come back.
