How old were you when your periods stopped

Just curious as I'm 51 and they're still regular.

OP posts:
Stonemaiden · 23/11/2023 08:30

They became irregular for a year then stopped completely at 54. Previously regular as clockwork. Three pregnancies and never been on pill/mirena etc.

KimberleyClark · 23/11/2023 08:32

Had my last one at 50. Periods started to become irregular from about 47 onwards. Was a pain because I’d had years and years of infertility and couldn’t help wondering whether I’d finally got pregnant. Was a relief when they finally stopped.

Meceme · 23/11/2023 08:32

Im 57 and still having them.
I had spent the last 30 years on hormonal contraception with no bleeds.
I even came off it for 3 years to try to have a second child ... no ovulation, no period, was told I was infertile so resumed to even outhormonesal fluctuations.
At 55 having had menopausal symptoms for over 6 years, I decided to stop the contraception as doctor couldn't tell me if menopause was complete while taking it.
Bingo .. hello periods, regular 4 weeks, bit of a shock though.

BeverleyMacker · 23/11/2023 08:34

50 and still regular :( My mum was 47 so hoping mine would have stopped by now.

Apparently after the menopause you need a third LESS calories. Has anyone noticed this ?

No. 8 years menopausal and same weight as I was 25 years ago!!

notanothernana · 23/11/2023 08:35

... but I definitely eat less than I used to. Stopped at 47.

ZiggyZowie · 23/11/2023 08:36

55 and it was a month before turning 56.

They started at 14, were always very heavy

KnickerlessParsons · 23/11/2023 08:37
  1. Had a big deluge at work (embarrassing) and then no more periods.

Do you have a reputable source for that because it sounds like nonsense unless accompanied by a significant reduction in activity. I could believe 10% but not a third.

Mine started to become irregular when I was 47 and I was 48 and 11 months when I had my last one, which was about 15 months ago so I've probably gone through the menopause but I realise it's a bit early to be 100% sure.

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 23/11/2023 08:44

Mid forties from memory.

Londontown12 · 23/11/2023 08:45

I am nearly 58 and still have the odd one with the most forrendous PMT ever.

Oh god poor you. Im 55 and fed up of still having periods which have gone haywire.

amerthecat · 23/11/2023 08:51
  1. My final period was horrendous and had to go home from work to get clean clothes. That was it. No menopause symptoms, no hot flushes, zilch. Just able to get on with my life. Feel very lucky.
PearlClutzsche · 23/11/2023 08:56

Not sure how I'll know!
Started HRT when I was 53 and still having periods, and I have withdrawal bleeds as a result.
Nearly 55 now, so possibly would have stopped but no way of knowing!

Nonentity2023 · 23/11/2023 08:56

I had premature menopause and had my last period at 38. Strangely I had been very fertile when in my twenties and had 4 children (no multiples) from age 25 to 29, before being sterilised at 29.

Your the second person to say that the last one was horrendous. Almost sounds like a final clean out!

Justleaveitblankthen · 23/11/2023 09:05

Started to miss a period by my late 40's (bought a few pregnancy test in those years! 😨)
Think I never had another after 48 - apart from when I had an unrelated surgery and it came flooding back with the worst period pain ever!
Was so bad I was throwing up all night (couldn't take my usual ibuprofen Post-surgery)

Vinrouge4 · 23/11/2023 09:05

I was 58. My mum and sisters were all around the age of 50. I do wonder why I was so much later. People in general seem to be getting older.

ollypollymolly · 23/11/2023 09:07

@BarbaraofSeville it was at a menopause workshop at work, a couple years ago.

it made sense to me as your body won’t be creating the womb lining and shedding it. So less calories needed.

BeyondMyWits · 23/11/2023 09:08
  1. Just stopped. Now 59 and can say I really don't miss them.
onestepfromgrace · 23/11/2023 09:09

I was 59 when I missed one or two and 60 when they stopped.

Seeline · 23/11/2023 09:10

I'm 55 and keep hoping I've had my last one. Have been irregular for about 10 years, with first them getting closer (roughly every 3 weeks and heavy) and then spacing out again. Now getting 2-3 a year. Last one was early August after a 6 month gap - here's hoping....

But not a third less, surely? Googling suggests it might be 200 fewer, which is far more believable, and in line with the 10% that I said earlier.

BalloonSalesperson · 23/11/2023 09:11

Exactly same as this. Last few periods were very heavy and painful.

AdaColeman · 23/11/2023 09:12

55
The last three or four had several months between each one, though I'd been very regular up until then.
