Things people do that make you cringe?

People posting photos of their holiday on social media with a caption like “this is how my Monday morning is looking”. Like calm down Joanne, you’ll be back in the office by next Monday.

Middle management telling me they pay my wages.

People thinking that are different and edgy because they wear Dr Martens (I do still love the boots though)

Did you realise that the trolleys are not washed overnight, and that rats and foxes jump all over them and urinate?

Kid-size trolleys are for people who have children (or for people who buy large quantities of cat/dog food, for example)

Or nappies................anything which is bulky or large, really.

Not everyone has five small items on their shopping list.

Edited

I suppose. Still don't like children in the food bit.

The trolleys I was referring to are the little mini ones that kids push. You wouldn't get a lot of catfood or nappies in them!!!

Since I’m a fully paid-up pedant, people saying e.g. ‘Between you and I…’ or writing e.g. baby’s, family’s, etc. when they mean the plural, not to mention misusing ‘myself’, evidently under the impression that it’s more ‘correct’ or perhaps sounds more intelligent.

100%. I said similar above but forgot to mention the misuse of apostrophe for plural.

Cattenberg · 11/11/2023 16:08

Did you realise that the trolleys are not washed overnight, and that rats and foxes jump all over them and urinate?

Unless someone left food in one of the trolleys, I can’t imagine rats and foxes doing this very often. They’re not spring lambs!

It's combination of having a backpack and then taking a water bottle and then doing the sippy thing. Specifically on public transport.

On a hike for example, I can understand a grown man having a backpack and stopping to drink water. But still prefer it not to be a sippy bottle thing.

Gives me the ick. It is unreasonable and I'm not defending it!

I'd never thought of it before but I kind of know what you mean 🤣

OMG I hate them!!

Hate is a string word for something to put in your feet. Also, as previously mentioned they are the only thing that fits me and supports my feet. Lucky you if you have choices. I’d probs still have Birkies though - just might have something dressier as well. But I can’t. I don’t have that option.

SummerDawn2000 · 11/11/2023 16:41

When people use their children or even their existence as a prop in social media posts.

kids are lovely but are not props

mostly people in my age group wanting to be ‘influencers’

PuppyMonkey · 11/11/2023 17:00

I knew there’d be some corkers on this thread but “adults eating ice cream in public” is by far my favourite.Grin

TheShellBeach · 11/11/2023 09:32

"Veg" is an awful contraction.

"Veggies" makes me cringe. Just awful.

JustKeepSlimming · 11/11/2023 17:29

Photos of an entire family, where everyone is pulling a face or doing something "wacky", usually with a caption like "Another fab Christmas Day with these wing nuts!!!!"

Monicawasbetterwithrichard · 11/11/2023 17:30

"Our Little Family" 🤮🤮🤮

barbiedout · 11/11/2023 17:36

How do you know that DM people are thinking that? Do they have a sign round their necks?

CityCommuter · 11/11/2023 17:39

I can't stand whenever anyone says or writes 'me thinks'... and I would love to say why the f..k are you sounding like you're learning to speak English!

barbiedout · 11/11/2023 17:40

People who upload social media stories every single day

at the gym, their lunch, who they’re with, what they’re doing

who can be arsed and what’s it for?

CowboyJoanna · 11/11/2023 17:40

TorroFerney · 11/11/2023 07:20

Are quavers girly? I thought they were rather gender neutral. Now Yorkie bars of course…….

I know it sounds really stupid but to me i always associate crisps like quavers and skips with little girls more, and little boys with wotsits and chipsticks. might be because

a. i have synesthaesia
b. all three of my girls love quavers and skips but they all hate wotsits, while my son is the opposite, so i am biased

Majesticalling · 11/11/2023 17:44

Eating something messy and NOT wiping your mouth between mouthfuls (looking at you mayo-man whose sat himself opposite me in Pret)!!!
So tempted to whip out a hanky and go rogue...but, sit and cringe we must 😬

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/11/2023 17:48

@backtowinter , yes, and I’d add ‘math’ to your list!

wasdarknowblond · 11/11/2023 17:49

People up their own arses who mis-pronounce words; I.E. : “it’s only a stimulated situation” or “pass the coldslaw” or “it was in a soup terrain”. Is it a case of empty vessels making the most sound?

barbiedout · 11/11/2023 17:49

Ibravedaflood · 10/11/2023 20:07

People who don't indicate at roundabouts...
Dps who narrate their trip out to their dc...
Dc who aren't strapped in the buggy properly.
Ddogs hanging out of car windows... mate if it falls out it will land either on my windscreen or under my car...
Grown ups who drink squash...

Adults who say ‘grown ups’ when in conversation with other adults

PetuniaT · 11/11/2023 17:54

People who exclaim "WTAF?", "clusterfuck" and "cocklodger" on these threads

PEMBO77 · 11/11/2023 17:58

Because the shit, vomit and saliva from the pavement where your child walks is transferred onto the grocery packaging in the trolley.

MonicaBingaling · 11/11/2023 17:59

Gall10 · 10/11/2023 19:48

People allowing their children to stand in shopping trollies….especially if their shoes are minging dirty (actually even if their shoes aren’t that grubby it’s still totally unacceptable in my book).

I let my son be in the trolley like this, he has autism and it's the only way we can get shopping done in peace

BatShitCrazyGran · 11/11/2023 18:00

Unless it’s Chris Hemsworth or Tom Hiddleston 😎😎😎

QuizzlyBears · 11/11/2023 18:02

I am married to an American, and people attempting to mimic the accent makes me turn inside out with embarrassment. It happens a lot and I never know why - it’s like people can’t help it, or think they’re being funny perhaps, but it is awful and makes my DP roll their eyes every time.

wishingiwas20something · 11/11/2023 18:05

Primary school parent whatsapp groups: shows how little hope there is for the future. #shameonyouall

merryhouse · 11/11/2023 18:05

Please can somebody explain Jaiy? Is it that the "y" becomes a diphthong?

(I admit my expectations are low here. Noone managed to explain pork not rhyming with fork in a way that I understood...)
