Things people do that make you cringe?

People posting photos of their holiday on social media with a caption like “this is how my Monday morning is looking”. Like calm down Joanne, you’ll be back in the office by next Monday.

Middle management telling me they pay my wages.

People thinking that are different and edgy because they wear Dr Martens (I do still love the boots though)

OP posts:

Posts on fb with captions like "Out with this one"

stemmedroses · 11/11/2023 12:58

People that say "me thinks"

soleroonic · 11/11/2023 12:59

Pretty much anything people post on social media. I just think everyone is a facebragging twat and it makes me cringe.

(Disclaimer - I used to do it in my 20s when Facebook was massive and I totally cringe at myself daily when I see my memories come up....)

People allowing their children to ride scooters in the supermarket. There was one zooming up and down the aisles in my local Aldi today. The shop has just been renovated and the aisles are mercifully wider than they used to be so luckily the child could steer past shoppers, but I personally think that letting your kid do this is wrong.

Oh gosh, my DC went through a phase of using a scooter and I absolutely loathed it. Used to always tell him to get off it when in the supermarket. One time he went right into my ankle with it and I could have cried it hurt that much. Thankfully it was me he went into and not another shopper! But yes, it annoys me too when I see others not using the same basic manners and letting their DC's ride all over the place

People that say "me thinks"

Do you mean methinks?

As in 'methinks it is like a weasel' (Hamlet)

People that write ‘Happy heavenly birthday.......’ type posts on social media.

People that wish their partners happy birthday on social media. Just tell them in real life.

People who wish me a happy birthday at all! I just want to forget the day, Fortunately, most people don't know when it is.

Aria999 · 11/11/2023 13:13

The little shrug emoji. I just know the people who use it are the kind I’d throw myself down a well to avoid.

🤷‍♀️

(Couldn't resist)

Eh?
What's wrong with this?

The trolley is for goods not kids

User0000009 · 11/11/2023 13:17

Anyone poking tongue out in photos. Adults or kids. Just don’t. It’s gross

Adults drinking fizzy drinks particularly in public and out of a can
Adults eating ice cream ( at home sort of OK but in public massive cringe)

Why? Ice cream on a hot summer's day is a real treat.

And I can see that in general it may be better manners to delay eating till you're at home, but if you do that with an ice cream, it will have melted by then.

bippityboppity87 · 11/11/2023 13:22

Someone mentioned tattoos. I don't mind some tattoos. Depending on their placement and style. For example I don't like neck, hand and face tattoos, but smaller ones can be ok. I wouldn't say they're all horrible

Christmasusernamepending · 11/11/2023 13:30

People who feel like they have to correct other people's spelling or grammar on the internet.

People that post about the anniversary of how long they've been together, leaving out the fact they've split up 9 times 🤣

porridgeisbae · 11/11/2023 13:45

People who feel like they have to correct other people's spelling or grammar on the internet.

Especially when they're wrong. Grin

weleasewoderick23 · 11/11/2023 13:54

Saying "no, I'm good" instead of no thanks. Looking at you grandson 🙄

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 11/11/2023 14:06

The adding of -ality onto the end of words. I hate the overuse of functionality but have seen it tacked on to so many words unnecessarily.

People talking in the wrong or mixed tenses, I think it might be regional but it drives me crazy “I done…” “and he says…” “so I goes…”.

I’m on a cruise at the moment with lots of Americans and watching them use cutlery is downright painful, cutting up their food into little pieces like a toddler then downing their knife, swapping their fork into the other hand, holding it like a claw to eat. I’ve tried to copy the way they are holding the fork out of curiosity and I can’t seem to do it, perhaps they have a new level of dexterity? It looks like they’ve never held cutlery before and it is awkward and ugly to watch. (Sorry Americans!)

Blackcatowner44 · 11/11/2023 14:54

Is anybody else playing cringe-bingo now?

I'm only skimming this thread and I've counted at least ten things i'm "guilty" of 😬😆

Yes, or being photographed giving the middle finger at the camera. Horrible.

Why can't children be in trolleys, though?

Why can't children be in trolleys, though?

With their dirty shoes having come in from outside?

I detest those kid-sized trolleys too! Why are they even a thing??

Pronouncing the G in spaghetti bolognese

I just sat saying 'spahetti, spahetti... no, it needs the g'

Then I realised you meant in the bolognaise bot 😂

mayorofcasterbridge · 11/11/2023 15:18

Did you realise that the trolleys are not washed overnight, and that rats and foxes jump all over them and urinate?

Kid-size trolleys are for people who have children (or for people who buy large quantities of cat/dog food, for example)

Or nappies................anything which is bulky or large, really.

Not everyone has five small items on their shopping list.

TheShellBeach · 11/11/2023 15:48

Also - with regard to shopping trolleys - everything in a supermarket is wrapped, so what is this hysteria about children's shoes? Or rats' urine?
