People posting photos of their holiday on social media with a caption like “this is how my Monday morning is looking”. Like calm down Joanne, you’ll be back in the office by next Monday.

Middle management telling me they pay my wages.

People thinking that are different and edgy because they wear Dr Martens (I do still love the boots though)

OP posts:

Face, neck or hand tattoos.

When people use the word "less" when they mean fewer.

Ooh, you have high expectations, Hippobot!

Doris86 · 10/11/2023 22:42

People who post on here saying DH, DC etc.

flexitime · 10/11/2023 22:43

Me too, is it marketed to kids? Apart from Ribena..
Vimto is the best and made locally 😋

I recall when Vimto was unheard of outside our bit of Lancashire, my cousin who had 'emigrated' to Hampshire would takes a case home every visit and I recall taking 2 2litre bottles in my hand luggage to New Zealand! My Mum used to make lollies from it and we would have a flask of hot Vimto at the football in winter!

People who don’t know that it’s “trolleys” not “trollies”!

Hooves is perfectly correct though - either hoofs or hooves is grammatically sound.

People who call Birkenstocks Birkies. Ditto shortening perimenopause to peri.
Both not only make me cringe hard, but bug the hell out of me for reasons I cannot explain.

Gifted is another that makes me cringe.

People on LinkedIn posting gushing cringey posts! Makes my skin crawl.

Or the photos from hospital beds. Please go away and recover in peace and with your real family.

I get irrationally angry at Alexander Armstrong, an expensively educated man, who says on Pointless 'if you can score less than.....' .

Are you sure? or you wouldn't be so small minded.

Edited

Well no I'm not small minded. I'm autistic, and have very black and white thinking such as past tense language should be exactly that.

The way people speak can be extremely cringe, colloquialism or not.

Another example of speech being cringe is when people say "Hi, how are you doing?" Then continue to barrel on with whatever it is they want to say when they just asked a question without it being something that is inherently obvious as rhetorical.

Americanisms like ‘Can I get’,

Combining with an earlier post about the complicated ordering of coffee these days, I was in a little place in the Peak District a few years ago and a group of Americans came in and proceeded to reel out their coffee orders as though they were in Starbucks, starting with Can I get. At the end the woman behind the counter said to the woman making the drinks They want four coffees, with milk! She then said to the party You go and sit down, I'll get them.

This has always bothered me as well.

As soon as someone says Can I get... I just want to say I don't know, can you reach?

Hippobot · 10/11/2023 22:53

People saying "on a daily basis" when they could just say "daily".

Bananazebra · 10/11/2023 22:53

Can't believe nobody else has mentioned this but people typing 'then' when they mean 'than' aaaaaargh! I see it so much!

There's a different way to to pronounce the letter J?

MrsHughesPinny · 10/11/2023 22:55

Actual cringe, not just things that annoy me:

People talking really loudly in public or showing off and drawing attention to themselves

Non-professionals singing or dancing for an audience (I’m totally unreasonable but the second-hand embarrassment is almost painful for me, no idea why)

People who get words wrong and keep saying them. I had a colleague who said ‘segue’ like ‘seeg’ and ‘diaspora’ as ‘dye-a-spORA’ in meetings on multiple occasions. I wanted to slide under the table.

Hippobot · 10/11/2023 22:57

When men (it's mostly American men that are guilty of this) refer to the lady they fancy as "this woman" or "that woman" e.g. "I think I am falling in love with this woman"
or "I'm developing feelings for that woman".

Baby announcements that say we're pregnant! It just irritates me so much.

Hippobot · 10/11/2023 22:57

American men crying on TV about every miniscule thing. Wise up!

DueyCheatemAndHow · 10/11/2023 22:59

Nornal baby things being given a label

Bed sharing, contact naps, leaps (or even worse describing a baby as 'leapy'), baby led weaning etc etc. All so cringe.

Hippobot · 10/11/2023 22:47

Hooves is perfectly correct though - either hoofs or hooves is grammatically sound.

It really isn’t. It hasn’t been used since the 1700s.

Hippobot · 10/11/2023 23:01

People that talk about their dogs as if they're human. Especially when they talk about the dog as the brother/sister of their human children. Can't stand the whole furbaby bollocks.

Maelil01 · 10/11/2023 23:02

Gintastic1 · 10/11/2023 22:57

This refers to “trolly”, not “trolley” which was the word under discussion.

Are you American by any chance ?

HiThereSupermouse · 10/11/2023 23:03

When people misuse terms like "attacking" "threatening" or "gaslighting" when none of these are happening it's just a difference of opinion and not a personal attack. Yes I am a survivor of actual abuse and do know the difference.

Mindovermatter247 · 10/11/2023 23:04

When people check in to hospital on Facebook Then when someone asks what’s up they say “I’ll dm you”
like why 🤷🏼‍♂️

Hippobot · 10/11/2023 23:04

Writing apostrophes whenever a word is plural.
