Things people do that make you cringe?

People posting photos of their holiday on social media with a caption like “this is how my Monday morning is looking”. Like calm down Joanne, you’ll be back in the office by next Monday.

Middle management telling me they pay my wages.

People thinking that are different and edgy because they wear Dr Martens (I do still love the boots though)

"living her or his best life" captions on photos

Saying "bye" 7 times at the end of a phone call. WTF is that about?

The child's name Jayden.

JustJoinedRightNow · 10/11/2023 23:05

The lady at my DC's school who refers to her toddler as "le baby"
🤮

LaDamaDeElche · 10/11/2023 23:05

Use the word 'cringe'.

TheShellBeach · 10/11/2023 23:08

Hippobot · 10/11/2023 22:41

Face, neck or hand tattoos.

All tattoos.

pickyourown · 10/11/2023 23:09

I have a tutor (post-graduate course) that says ‘pertient’ all the time

porridgeisbae · 10/11/2023 23:09

not cringe as such but annoying, is when people trying to be officious say 'pacifically' rather than 'specifically.' I've heard this is going to become an accepted turn of phrase in English. I hope not.

Cringe= people getting overexcited. For instance my uncle waves his fists around and goes 'heeeheeeheeeheee' if we get the right answer at a quiz. It's worse because it's in public.

Dark cringe= people unwittingly (?) coming across like a stereotype of a paedo. Same uncle, recites dirty rhymes about teenagers shagging. Said 'he wants her to tickle his pickle' while we watched the Jimmy Saville thing on Netflix. Confused

Dobbybigearsdog · 10/11/2023 23:11

People who say ‘hun’ makes me actually cringe

There are different dialects. It astounds me that people just think their way is right.

Of course there are dialects! There are also correct and incorrect pronunciations for very basic things- like the English alphabet!

Is Haitch in the dictionary?
First, you won't find 'haitch' in the dictionary, only the correct spelling aitch. The name of the letter comes from Old French ache of the 1500s and first spelt so in English, when it was related to the Old English word ache, from æce. At this time it was pronounced "ache" or "aitch".

porridgeisbae · 10/11/2023 23:12

@Dobbybigearsdog Aww, hun. ❤

Have we had 'awwww?' I use it but acknowledge it's cringiness.

'Hugs.'

Sellingbedtime · 10/11/2023 23:13

People who refer to themselves or their partners as "the Mrs"

Dobbybigearsdog · 10/11/2023 23:14

😂😂 my dog walker called my dog ‘hun’ that much she responds to it more than her name

lto2019 · 10/11/2023 23:16

The media using the expression 'broke their silence' when someone has made a comment.
The media describing people as unrecognisable when they are entirely recognisable but just older and fatter.
People using loose when they mean lose - winds me right up
Describing everything as a 'hack' when did things stop being tips and become hacks.
Eating anything other than an icecream in the street - it's usually pies and usually all over their pie face and down themselves.
hubby/hubster/this one/nom nom/my bad/
putting things near the things they are supposed to go in - near the dishwasher/near the bin/ near the washing basket.
asking a question about something that is clearly stated in the email they have bloody replied
just to confirm...... you've been told 3 times.

newhousenewhouse · 10/11/2023 23:16

People who leave their children's clothes in the changing rooms while their children are having a swimming lesson instead of using a locker blocking the very few changing rooms. Makes me mad.

Hippobot · 10/11/2023 23:16

Maelil01 · 10/11/2023 23:00

It really isn’t. It hasn’t been used since the 1700s.

Consult a dictionary. You'll find your answer there. I see it used all the time.

Mindovermatter247 · 10/11/2023 23:04

When people check in to hospital on Facebook Then when someone asks what’s up they say “I’ll dm you”
like why 🤷🏼‍♂️

This! it's just so attention seeking!

porridgeisbae · 10/11/2023 23:20

@Hippobot Yep, I was taught 'hooves.' Hoofs seems wrong to me.

pickyourown · 10/11/2023 23:21

Furbaby

Coqueta · 10/11/2023 23:21

Men wearing cartoon ties to make themselves look interesting/cool/ edgy/ironic - I'm talking about you, ICT team

porridgeisbae · 10/11/2023 23:23

Signing pets names in greeting cards.

@pickyourown I sometimes attempt a bad drawing of the cats, too. Smile

Eminybob · 10/11/2023 23:24

Pretty much everything I say and do, especially at work. I have no idea how other people abide me I really don't.

Dobbybigearsdog · 10/11/2023 23:25

My birthday card today from my dad and his wife, does it every time

Things people do that make you cringe?
porridgeisbae · 10/11/2023 23:30

Pretty much everything I say and do, especially at work. I have no idea how other people abide me I really don't.

@Eminybob Aww, hun, hugs. You are perfect exactly as you are. ❤Express your true self.

Shall we have things like 'be proud of who you are' etc etc?

How about 'self care?' I mean I believe in self care but still it sounds cheesy.

I used to know someone who would put 'take care,' as a sign off. It just sounded to me like he thought I was at risk of something bad happening. Grin

Ineedwinenow · 10/11/2023 23:30

Quotes of life shite that people post on social media like “live, laugh, love” or quotes from Mark Twain etc… we don’t need quotes to get us through life we are grown ups oh and “love you to the moon and back” is also life nails down a blackboard to me! “I love you” is enough….

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 10/11/2023 22:18

That’s coz it’s frowned upon to say ‘you poor bastard’ to strangers isn’t it? What else are they supposed to say?

😂
