That all changes though if a tea pot is used 🤣🤣

GettingStuffed · 23/10/2023 19:47

My trousers are too big and I couldn't find any others

Welcome, @merrymelodies, @natura, @Echobelly, @GonnaGetGoingReturns, @Loubelle70 and @vernatheraven, and thanks for sharing your various calming and mundane news. Apologies to anyone I've missed. It's lovely to see so many new joiners!

After months of trying I finally got a picture of the heron in flight. He landed on the mysterious stone structure.

DH, WP and I are looking at two reception venues tomorrow.

Tilllly · 23/10/2023 22:10

That'd be me @Deathraystare 🤣

Tilllly · 23/10/2023 22:13

Oh @Mumtobabyhavoc... what have you done...?
Can open... worms everywhere
Just don't ask about scones / cream teas or the thread will get deleted

<<<it's just a cup of tea, it doesn't matter 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️ 😱 >>>

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/10/2023 22:41

@Tilllly we've survived the scone/jam/cream and scahhhn v skone discussion quite civilly here. 😅
But, I recently saw a headline on msn that the milk/tea "order" has "finally" been settled. 🤣🤣🤣
My dad drank weak tea with milk.
I drink strong tea, black.
Mum will take it black and occasionally a titch of honey.
I struggle with understanding brewing tea in cup with milk already in it. Surely tea should go first to ensure desired strength? 😵‍💫🤔🤦‍♀️

Bizzey, quite a ritual you have! I share your possessiveness over certain cups! 😁
I use only two mugs (usually): one with a giant smily sunshine and the other a gorgeous fancy (has sparkles) Eeyore mug from Disneyland several years ago. They are mine.

MissConductUS · 23/10/2023 22:42

Fair warning: anyone who starts a "this is the only proper way to prepare, augment, and consume the hot beverage that shall go nameless" discussion inherits thread curation duties for the next ten threads. 😐

I like you, Tilly. A kindred humour. 🤗

I'm sitting in my car with the windows down because it's actually HOT and sunny. DD is fetching me an iced tea from the local Starbsies.🥵🧋

merrymelodies · 23/10/2023 23:14

Another fun fact - my big white wedding was exactly 25 years ago. Too bad my ex was a 👹

Just got into bed,

Silkiefloof · 23/10/2023 23:44

Last night I heard 2 vehicles making screeching noises at 1.12am, very strange. Apparently the village shop was raided but they got nothing, they tried to put a car through a window and failed and left in another car wearing baraclavas. Normally absolutely nothing happens here. This then turned into like an Agatha Christie.

The police, who normally have absolutely nothing to do, decided to shut two streets and spend half a day doing forensic examinations. The press came. Our female painter decided to drive the wrong way down a one way street to get to us and this caused much indignation in the village. Our special collection could not be collected and is still there and no idea what happens now. I tried to contact council but it rejected my you didn't collect my rubbish as it isn't normal rubbish. I e-mailed them and it said we will reply in 5 business days. The village Facebook is a frenzy.

Painters did a days work, weather was good for that. We went swimming, well I did and DH went in a sun lounger chair as he has an ear ache, did 150 lengths x 15 metres, jacuzzi and sauna. We had a cafe latte before at the cafe there. Then got a McDonalds on way back for DS and DD and I just had a fish o'fillet. I cleaned the downstairs bathroom afterwards then took a lovely bath.

Tomorrow kitchen guys should be coming and fingers crossed they turn up and its the final day and they take their stuff. Floof is just trilling. And got my ct head back, all clear I think, very long commentary. Have appointment on 9 November.

Been watching a programme on Disney about a man and his wife who bought and made a national park in Chile in Patagonia.

Silkiefloof · 23/10/2023 23:45

Hope you find a nice reception venue MissC

Ladyof2022 · 24/10/2023 00:02

I lead a very quiet life and today was no exception. I am writing a book and coming to the end of it and so I spent the whole day sitting at the computer going through a few chapters trying to find ways of making it shorter or improving the flow of the text. Stopped at 7pm flopped on the sofa with a hot Ribena and watched TV.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 24/10/2023 01:03

TW: tea 😅 skip to halfway if you wish to avoid

Havoc I love tea.

I do milk first because that's the only way I can tell if I've poured the right amount in. So teabag, milk, sugar all in together. Boil kettle while I make the snack. Pour water. Go do something for 5min which is how long it takes to get the tea the right strength, snack goes into microwave at the same time if necessary. Stir and remove teabag, fetch snack, sit down and enjoy.
That's if I'm doing basic tea.

If I'm doing Earl Grey there's no milk but there is lemon juice, same process.
If I'm doing herbal tea again there's no milk, but also no sugar and I'll leave it 5-15 min to get it as strong as possible and to let it cool down a bit so it's drinkable when I sit down.
If I'm doing chai I drink it black, no sugar and just a quick stir, no steeping or else it tastes a bit strong but worst than that it stains my teeth and makes them look like they're rotten. Which takes ages to scrub off, like, a few days.

Fabulous flight pic MissC.

Glad the scan was ok Silkie.
Have you seen We Bought A Zoo? That's based on a true story too.

Lady your life sounds peaceful.

Duck that's where I should be. Mine, obviously, not yours!

Merry I started reading that thinking aww how sweet, then read the next bit 😐. Glad he's an ex.

I sat outside in the sun today.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/10/2023 01:45

Mallards, you've got it down to a science, haven't you! 😊 I agree that some sort of snack is necessary.

Silkie, sounds like a good test result. 🤗

Making a soup I haven't made in a while and I think it will be perfect for this chilly eve.
Boiling yams, a few chunks of acorn squash, half a white onion, cup of s knob of ginger, bit of salt, Chinese 5 spice, ground cardamom and nutmeg. When cooked soft will blend with immersion blender and add a can of coconut milk. Will put some croutons on top to serve.
Temp is 11c; rain and 6c forecast for morning with snow on the mtns.

And a cup of split yellow lentils in pot

Tilllly · 24/10/2023 03:58

Havoc yams?

I make a lot of soup and usually it's very nice
Made up a batch of mushroom soup and threw in a bit of celery and spinach that was past its best, and it's tastes of nothing. Literally nothing. Very odd

I have tonight discovered that camomile tea does not make me sleepy

IWanderedLonely · 24/10/2023 07:38

Silkies your news is far too exciting for this thread!Grin
Iwas supposed to get up early for a run but went back to sleep instead, this is the time of year I go into hibernation mode. Happens every year.

HildaTablet · 24/10/2023 08:37

Havoc yet again our culinary terms diverge! Yes, over here we'd call that a sweet potato. If you bought a yam here it would look like this. You tend to find them in African and Afro-Caribbean speciality shops (they sell them in that marvellous supermarket I mentioned near me).

DancesWithDucks · 24/10/2023 10:50

that photo of the heron in flight is amazing @MissConductUS

@Mumtobabyhavoc agreed, if you're making tea in the mug you have to brew it to the right strength before you take the bag out and then add milk! But I won't push it as I really don't want to curate the thread for weeks :D

Just had to cycle on the eBike to the shop to get a new computer control for it. Some little sod nicked the old one yesterday. eBike are very heavy to pedal when it's just Bike and no e attached! Flew back once I'd got the new one on a long wooded road.
