Just catching up here too when I should be leaving for work......
Wedding planning seems very stressful Miss - hope the groom's parents see reason.
I say sofa/settee; breakfast, lunch and tea; scone to rhyme with con or phone interchangeably!
So sorry about rabbit Silkie.
Hope DS is better soon Lemons.
I was very annoyed about Wales' loss Helena!
You sound like you have had a productive time Bizzey.
Just come back from a short trip to Cardigan. It was lovely.

Lemonsandlemonade · 18/10/2023 12:44

Enjoy the sofas - my bed

someone on other thread asked about where beach was it was Ynys Las.

I love your new kitchen Silkie it looks lovely.

Saw the nurse ( the one I can’t help but not agree with) she said there is nothing wrong but I can’t agree. His oxygen level was slightly low his temperature was high his throat was sore but he looks so well apparently. I’ll give him a day but I’d needed I will take him to the pharmacy.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/10/2023 13:07

Good morning...? 4:30am here and been awake an hour. 😴Now surfing/watching/listening to old SAG/AFTRA interview with Damien Lewis 😍
It's pouring out as we've got the remnants of some sort of trough/hurricane and expected to last until tomorrow.
@WmFnKdSg1234 very specific .... 😀👏
Sprouts, wondering if Cardigan is where the type of sweater originates? Must Google... Do you have tea at an expected time? If you ate your evening meal later, say 7pm, would you call it something else?
Silkie, are you hiding from chaos? 😉(Just noticed name change, too.)
@ForfarBridie frost already?! 😮What was the temp?
@MyBedIsMySpiritualHome welcome to my painting crew! It's a pain, but so satisfying when done, isn't it? 😁

Hoping rain subsides by Thurs evening as taking Havoc to Hallowe'en lights event again since it was so enjoyable last week. It was so fun watching Havoc wonder at everything. Many little ones in costume, too, including Havoc. If rain persists will skip costume and wear rain gear. No biggie. It's part of west coast conditioning.... 😂
Will try for Hallowe'en train and pumpkin patch next week during day if weather cooperates, though. Won't do those if it's miserable out.
Back to interview now and will hopefully fall back asleep.
Glad you liked the dinner pic, Silkie, it really was a treat. Looking forward to left overs...😛
Oh god, 5am now....

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/10/2023 13:14

Sorry I missed you Lemons. Hoping your DS feels better soon. It's so worrying when our DC are not well. Please take care. ❤

Silkiefloof · 18/10/2023 13:26

Glad you had a lovely time in Cardigan Sprouts Never been but looked it up once and looked lovely.

Sorry they didn't help Lemons

Enjoy the leftovers Havoc

Did you go anywhere nice @pandora206 Lucky to get whole row on Easyjet.

DD has done her Oxford Uni entrance exam and will be back home for about 4pm. Painters and decorators finish around 3pm. I stayed out of way of kitchen guys in my room upstairs but currently the painters and decorators are doing my window so can see me which is a bit unnerving.

Silkiefloof · 18/10/2023 13:28

Though am hoping it means my window will be painted today. Its been sanded yesterday. It seems to be being dusted atm. We have 1.5 hours to go but thought I saw a paint brush. I don't like to stare at them either. 😂

bizzey · 18/10/2023 13:28

Havoc I was awake at my 5am as well this morning 🤣!

Made a cuppa at 6am and sort of dozed off again ...with very weird dreams ! till 8.20 .

So feel today ,I have not been very productive in my sorting out and organising, as once again I have been on the phone to British Gas getting no help at all !

Long story short ....mama needs her system to have a power flush.
£1000 !😥.

She does not have it .

But the Government do some grants for certain people (there is a criteria ) if your boiler is more than 15 years old , which I think includes a power flush as part of the installation.

Getting any further with this information is proving to be a minefield !!

Got a few more numbers to try .

Keep getting passed around and told to ring different numbers and them all giving different/wrong information!

Luckily weather is wet and mild at the moment after the big dip at the weekend .

Mama gets very stressed about these sort of things so I sort of need to always present her with the situation sorted as opposed to talking things through with her.

I have also just realised I can't put my wall art up in my newly freshly painted toilet....as I can't bloody reach the wall on the step ladder to drill the nails in 🤣🤣🤣!

I was so determined to do everything myself !

I will have to concede defeat and get normal sized ds to do it 🤣🤣

But I ordered some reed diffusers from a lovely company, and they have arrived today and I can smell the lovely smell just from the box !

WmFnKdSg1234 · 18/10/2023 13:42

Lovely smells do lift the mood and create a cosy atmosphere @bizzey

bizzey · 18/10/2023 13:50

Thank you @WmFnKdSg1234 !
I certainly need my mood lifting right now !

The annoying thing about the criteria for the government grant is that you have to be on certain benefits.

All the benefits included are for people under the state pension age !

And she does get Attendance Allowance, which is the only one for pensioners....but it is not included 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️!

therealcookiemonster · 18/10/2023 14:14

WmFnKdSg1234 · 18/10/2023 08:04

Going just right into meal names & timings: breakfast (upto 0930) brunch, (0931- 1159) , lunch (1200 -1400) , late lunch (1401- 1500), tea (1501 - 1759) dinner(1800-1959) supper (2000-2200)

Overlap: early dinner 1700 - 1759.

Did I overthink it?😂

I am afraid I have to disagree with you there... I feel brunch is after 1030

also has to be a fairly big meal so not just rime dependent

sproutsandparsnips · 18/10/2023 15:03

Havoc I looked it up actually for the very same reason and can advise that no it is not related to the sweater name. It is an anglicisation of Ceredigion which is the county in which it sits meaning ceredig's land.
The jumper cardigan is named after the Earl of Cardigan who bought his men special knitted buttoned jackets during the Crimean war.

MissConductUS · 18/10/2023 15:48

Welcome, @EmmaOvary, @pandora206, @Tilllly, @WmFnKdSg1234, @MyBedIsMySpiritualHome, and @ForfarBridie. Apologies to anyone I might have missed. One thing I love about a new thread is all of the delurkers who appear.

DD had her first Zoom call with the WP (wedding planner) last night. We've hear nothing from DD about it, but expect to get an email from the WP at some point, along with our first invoice. I'm trying to back away from the details and let them handle it.

I saw this heron this morning. It's not the one I usually see. Its neck is much thicker. I tried to get closer, but I scared it, and it flew off.

@MissConductUS awww that heron is lovely.

loving the updates from everyone. it's wet and windy here in the Midlands... so I made a plum upside down pancake.... a cross between a tart tatin (but with plum) and a plum cake. was scrumptious.... what is everyone else having for tea/dinner?

pandora206 · 18/10/2023 16:22

This is a lovely uplifting thread with lots of positive experiences and love seeing the pics too.

@Silkiefloof I went to Mykonos to meet my daughter who lives in Greece. It was a lovely break for a few days but I don't think we'd go back as there are so many other interesting islands to visit. Fab apartment though, and it was great to have some sunshine at this time of year.

Lemonsandlemonade · 18/10/2023 16:23

Havoc just caught up on other thread huge congratulations.

That looks thereal

Hope your DDs exam goes well Silkie. She sounds like such a hard water.

DS currently sat on a towel in living room pretending to have a bath. 😂😂 he is very chesty.

Silkiefloof · 18/10/2023 17:39

Thanks Lemons Hope your DS gets better soon.

That sounds a lovely trip to see your daughter and nice weather this time of year Pandora

The painters did a first coat on my window of paint which is good though the weather forecast is typical English autumn weather for next two weeks, pretty constant rain so not sure how they will do outside of house but there's no rush and they are doing good job.

Its DDs birthday and she was very happy with the presents I got her, all of which were Floof themed. She worships the Floof. Though one has a Floof even bigger than the real Floof and Floof was a bit 🙀but he was seriously impressed by the wrapping paper and cat notebook.

We are having the red velvet cupcakes now. DD has requested a pizza from Papa John's so ordered that. Then will have champagne with her main cake. She seems OK about the Oxford exam. But says she has 5 homeworks due in tomorrow and is now regretting not doing it earlier. She has friends with the entrance exam tomorrow.

This is one of the 12 cupcakes. Good to get first child to an adult. 😎

Silkiefloof · 18/10/2023 17:42

Lovely cake Cookie My DH is French and love it when he makes Tarte Tatin.

Lovely heron pic Miss

DD has just taken a cake to her brother. He will probably snaffle loads of them in the night but we had loads and DD wants him to put weight on so it's fine.

therealcookiemonster · 18/10/2023 18:02

@Silkiefloof would love some pics of the floofs. I sadly am not able to have any but am obsessed with them...

thanks :-) I am planning to make a skinny tarte rating maybe next week... with filo instead of puff pastry... let's see if that works...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/10/2023 18:04

Good morning - again. 😊
Managed to fall asleep just before 7 and woke up at 9. Have put together a lovely breakfast:
waffle and croissant warmed and cut into bite-size pieces; mixed berries; and strawberry jam. Have got a half caf latte.
Still raining.

Great bit of trivia Sprouts!
Need to go out soon to do errand for my mum.
Will putter rest of day. Lots of sorting and purging to do.

therealcookiemonster · 18/10/2023 18:06

@Mumtobabyhavoc I read that as half cat latte and nearly spat out my tea. lol

your breakfast sounds lovely. unfortunately this time of year berries available in the UK tend to be on the insipid side...

mathanxiety · 18/10/2023 18:06

Birthday wishes to your DD, Silkies.

The heat finally came on in my apartment and all my plants are now indoors, various pots and trowels stowed, and the deck swept. The dining room and sitting room look like rainforests.
My car was making a funny brushing/swishing sound in first gear for a few days but that has stopped now.
DD4 baked a Victoria sponge using a Mary Berry recipe. It's nicer than her previous sponges which were made using a recipe in a Hogwarts recipe book.

Bramble gin sounds like a great idea, EmmaOvary.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/10/2023 18:10

@therealcookiemonster that tarte is gorgeous! Well done! Save me a slice? 😋

Silkiefloof · 18/10/2023 18:11

This is Floof and one of the silkies

@Mumtobabyhavoc ofcourse. I certainly didn't eat it all in one go....🙄

@Silkiefloof omg soon cute.... can't believe that chick is real. how does it stay so white?! and the floof is majestic ♡♡

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/10/2023 18:26

Cookie, as weather changes we'll only see berries from California or Mexico. They still won't be as sweet as proper summer fruit, though. Will also be more expensive. (Not that they are cheap now!)
Math, hope car is ok. Never had Victoria sponge. Must try to make it! 😋
Silkie, hope dd's exam went well! 🤞
Miss, I think I saw a heron on the Capilano River last week. Wasn't quick enough to take a pic, though.
Bizzey, sounds frustrating re your mum's boiler situation.

Cat latte... luckily, no. 😹
