The lights worked, so the tree is now decorated, thanks to my extendable marshmallow toasting fork, and the rest of the decorations are in place too. I don't go all out with garlands, etc. The Santa Claus that Dcat hates is on a bookshelf this year - last year she kept tipping him off the sideboard, and we caught her chewing his beard one morning.

I went out last evening to a cookie exchange that one of my friends hosts every year, and while trying to find something to wear I realised I dont like a good few of my tops and shirts, so I will be getting a bag together for donation at some point today.

mathanxiety · 17/12/2023 17:20

*It's possible she was trying to groom him and got his beard stuck in her mouth. She sometimes licks my hair too.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 17/12/2023 17:26

Sue it's not much help for now but in future have some arnica cream/gel in your first aid kit. It works by stopping bruising coming out, so you put it on ASAP after the injury and twice a day for the next few days, then the healing time won't be so bad.

MissC that's lovely, like the pics from 16/17/1800's. Loving the star on your tree too.

I felt unwell and accidentally slept the day through, so now I'm having to race round like a mad thing getting everything done.

IWanderedLonely · 17/12/2023 19:17

DH bought the tree on Friday, but I only had time to decorate it this afternoon, with one of my older granddaughters helping. Turned into a lovely Christmassy time and really cheered me up. The little Chinese lantern was bought for me in Woolworths about 50 years ago and the fairy is older than me.

IWanderedLonely · 17/12/2023 19:18

It messy and I'm sure not fashionable, but every decoration holds a memory and makes me smile.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 17/12/2023 20:55

I remember those Chinese lanterns ornaments Wandered. I wonder whatever happened to mine? Thrown out with the rest of the mismatched stuff when my mum decided to get a new tree and curated decorations one year, I expect.

HelenaJustina · 17/12/2023 22:10

Lovely trees! Been a busy weekend with two Carol services, quick dash to the city for what was supposed to be last few bits, DC went to the pantomime and gymnastics, swim training and football haven’t yet stopped.

Cards all written and signed, posted ones sent and just hand delivered ones to go. Roll on Thursday and a lie in past 6am!

Silkiefloof · 17/12/2023 23:21

Nice to see the Christmas trees. It feels so Christmassy this year, there are decorations inside and outside so many houses in our lane and our house is full of them. Plus we play the Christmas gramophone advent each day, Floof loves it so much.

DH went to a lunchtime Christmas 🎄 party. DD went to London for the day to a cat cafe with a friend who walked her back and he got to meet Floof. He had apparently been asking to meet Floof for ages.

Two lots of washing done

We have a special collection tomorrow, anytime from 6am for a very old leather sofa and 9 sacks of up to 100 litres. We have made 3 sacks so far and cleared the sofa ready to go out. DD had said she was making sacks from her room but got a better offer. I am not sure we have more stuff ourselves, maybe a little.

HelenaJustina · 18/12/2023 06:33

Silkie there can’t be anything left in your house! I’ve never heard of special collections, not a thing for our council. Could have done with one when we cleared out the garage!

merrymelodies · 18/12/2023 07:45

Hello again! Came on to see how everyone's getting on. Christmas is almost here and I'm guessing that @Mumtobabyhavoc's Havoc 2.0 is as well. Exciting stuff!
Our tree is up and decorated, at last. I'll post a pic on here soon.
My elbow is now well enough to drive with but I'm broke, so no more Christmas shopping.Blush
What Christmas presents are you giving, if any, this year?
My DD is getting a Polaroid camera, with case and film, plus some slippers and a book.
My DS is getting an electric beard trimmer/shaver because at 20, he looks like a mountain man. Also a contribution towards a fancy speaker he wants to buy.
My mum is getting a new Kindle (she lost her previous one.)
My stepdad is getting some Swedish Christmas lights and a picture book on Sweden (he is Swedish and unfortunately has dementia.)

Deathraystare · 18/12/2023 08:48

@MissConductUS

Lovely tree pics. I do love a Christmas tree whether real or fake.

We had our pre-Christmas book club yesterday at my friend Maggie's house. Two people no shows as not well. Well, one had a head cold. The other, though told Maggie she was looking forward to it but then rang back to say she was feeling sick. She has previous..... Gets too comfy on her sofa, etc etc. So I came back with an extra serving of salmon and veggies, plus Christmas pud. We (three of us) had a great time. I particularly enjoyed Maggie's mulled wine and Slivovitz!

It nearly went all wrong. My phone is not working. I originally arranged to go to another woman's house to pick her up (she has dementia. This is the one who does not always want to come out). As my phone was not working, I asked her daughter to remind her to recharge her phone and bring it with her. (We meet Maggie at the tube and she picks us up). Then I realised I could not rely on the woman to bring her phone with her so arranged to meet another friend there.

Of course I then found out she had decided not to go and had rung the other friend. I asked to borrow her phone but she kept trying to give me the house phone not her mobile which she said she hasn.t used for ages and I did not have my phone with me to look up the number. So I now did not know if the friend would join me at her house or not or at a tube station so just decided to go ahead and hope I met up with her at the place where Maggie picks us up! Shows how important it is to have a working mobile! Of course, this morning I found my phone in my bag!!

I always have arnica gel on hand. I would have applied some, but I used diclofenac gel instead.
bizzey It's not my coccyx, fortunately. It seems to be from my ribcage down to my buttocks, and spreading outwards to the sides.

DancesWithDucks · 18/12/2023 10:16

Oh boy Bizzy, a vegan Christmas dinner! We have a vegan coming to stay and they have the extra complication of being allergic to gluten. Plus she cooks and eats in the night time .. hate to be inhospitable but I think she may have to cook for herself since I need to be cooking for 10 others for 4 days.

Deathraystare · 18/12/2023 10:33

@Silkiefloof

Lovely pic of the Floof. I just want to reach out and rub his tummy!

Silkiefloof · 18/12/2023 16:19

Helena I think they are called bulky waste collections and they are detailed in council's website under refuse section. Our old areas have always done them too. They are chargeable but much cheaper than say hiring a skip. It feels like we should have nothing left in the house now but we do. When we first moved here we also kept our old house for just under 3 years (extended due to lockdown) to renovate it for sale and we ended up with stuff in 2 houses as DH keeps everything. DD gets so many things but gets bored of them quickly, she earns quite a lot now and buys it all from that but its like 3 parcels of stuff a day. Plus the pets damage things and have lots of stuff. It is pretty much all done now apart from DDs room but she is mid A levels, applying to universities and just want her to get through that, its all goes in her room but she has stuff everywhere and a huge room. When I do a collection she will sometimes appear with 10 bags at random points. Its endless clothes and fitness equipment, she even seems to acquire her friends clothes. 🤔Every 6 months or so she sorts it when it annoys her and then she always asks me for a special collection and I am just happy to see the floor in her room again. Thankfully she has put almost all her money in a 1 year locked account.

Sofa and 5 large sacks went in the end but they were 85 litre ones so not far off. Nothing from DD as she went to cat cafe instead, can't say I blame her.

Hope all is well Havoc I think it was 28th Havoc 2 was due.

Swimming tonight.

MissConductUS · 18/12/2023 16:52

Good to see you again, @merrymelodies. I'm glad your elbow is better. I didn't know they still made Polaroid cameras. I had one growing up. They were like magic. Here's a bit of Polaroid trivia for you. They were made in a factory outside of Boston, MA, which Moderna bought and used to manufacture their covid vaccine.

We had a bad storm come through last night and this morning, with over three inches of rain and 60 mph winds. I brought down a 100 year old sugar maple tree at the end of our yard by the street. It blocked the road so the town highway department cut it up and move most of it, but left the bottom part on our land. We've had our tree contractor out today to look at removing it and trimming some dead branches over the driveway so they don't bring down our electrical wires in the next storm.

That creek running down to the wetlands is normally dry this time of year.

They are not coming for Christmas
😞😞😞.

Still..I will save money not having to buy Vegan food 😁😁😏🥴😞!

Very deflated at the moment .

I do silly things with their presents...as in they all sort of match ...in a jokey, sarcastic way !

IE....2 have cooking things ...
The chef son ......has stuff for his beautiful hair !!

Silly things like that!

A few years ago ..
ds3 got a food processor..

ds1 (just move to uni) got kitchen stuff..

ds2 .(chef boy )..got ..2x pot noodles !!

😅😅🤣🤣

(They weren't their only presents !!
That was an example of how I match them !)

bizzey · 18/12/2023 23:16

DS will visit...but just trying to coincide with working DS ...and other ds who is going to see his dad .

I think we have a very small window...😞

bizzey · 18/12/2023 23:19

I want them back to being too excited to sleep on Christmas Eve again!! 🤣🤣

Silkiefloof · 18/12/2023 23:29

Poor tree MissC

Sorry they won't be coming for Christmas Bizzey

Just been swimming and had a quick sort out more of dining room. Saw DH had retrieved the sofa seat cushions - these are showing the foam but apparently he kept them in case DS wants them. 🤔Then I found other things he just moved to the dining room 🤔He acknowledged that none of the things were any use and there's no reason to keep any of them so put them all in a black sack and chucked them out. Luckily its black bin day this week and we still have space.

When we came back from swimming DS was in the downstairs bathroom and I thought I could hear him laughing to himself a few times. Not certain but there was only us in the house and it wasn't DH or I and DD was upstairs and also DS laughs like Muttley and this was a Muttley laugh. DD is always laughing but was too far away and she talks and laughs. But hard to be certain, not heard a sound from him for just under a year.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/12/2023 04:26

Wow, Silkie... a good sign from DS? 🤞
Bizzey, sorry you won't all be together on. Christmas.
Miss, lucky that tree didn't fall on anything!
Math, glad you got your decos up. (And happy to see you flex your intellect on other threads. 😉)
Helena, everything comes together in the end.
Half, simple pleasures. 🥰
Sue, how are you feeling? I'm also painting (still) and have to be so careful with my balance and big belly. 🤦‍♀️
Merry, yep, coming up in TEN DAYS...😬
Glad your elbow is healing.
Death, book club sounds nice. Which book are you currently reading?

Painted late last night and managed a dining room wall and baseboard. Quite proud of repair work I did to wall ledge. 😁
Took Havoc to see the Canada Holiday Train in a suburb called Port Moody today. The drive and parking was a nightmare... ugh. But, the train cars were lovely and the singer was quite good! Quite a lot of people attended. The side of one of the cars folded down and became the stage.

DD needs to get on Vinted Silkie and make some money from the unwanted items. Buying second hand is super cool amongst the young adults around me! My DH has a tendency to keep things just in case as well, but has become more realistic over the years and I am ruthless
Great sign from DS, his poor voice, silenced for so long.

1.5 days left to go at work and about 3 days worth of work to fit in… last push!

sueelleker · 19/12/2023 09:51

Mumtobabyhavoc; Still very painful. I've been taking paracetamol and dihydrocodeine (can.t take ibuprofen) and applying diclofenac gel; but it still makes my cry sometimes when I move. I think I'll call in at the walk-in centre today, at least I'll find out if I need to do anything else (GP or A&E)

Tilllly · 19/12/2023 09:55

@sueelleker
Definitely go to walk in centre!

Tilllly · 19/12/2023 09:58

I'm wondering if I'm allergic to pomegranate...

Was sick Sunday morning after having the seeds in a fruit salad (serves me right for being healthy)

Now I feel queasy having had pomegranate juice

Trying not to be sick as just had my meds!
