Bizzey I've lived in some right dives that were varying degrees of habitable and was always skint until recent years. My fridge was never full! Turned it down in winter so the ice compartment didn't over ice itself and to help the electric bill, if I forgot to turn it up again in summer the milk would go off in a couple of days to remind me. If there was a radiator in the kitchen with no dial to turn it off, and I could afford to put the heating on, fridge would need to be turned up even in winter. If it was a cold house/kitchen there was no problem. Definitely found it to make a difference to how hard the fridge needs to be working to protect the food.

Hope your DS enjoys jury duty or at least doesn't hate it too much. As long as it's not traumatic, most people seem to say it's interesting, if they get a case that is. He might not be assigned to one. Lol at younger DS not understanding it's random selection.

MissC the Grand Jury sounds like our crown prosecution service, that's who decides if a case has enough evidence to get to court or not. It's not made up of members of the public though. The police decides in the first instance whether to put a case to the CPS. If turned down and you disagree with the decision you can privately pay for a civil prosecution, where it goes to court on your say so and the rules about conviction are different. You don't need "beyond reasonable doubt" for that, only "on the balance of probability". They won't go to prison though if convicted or get community service (I don't think?) for a civil offense, it is more for compensation (if you win and, I expect, having to pay all their court/solicitors costs if you don't).

Cute chickies Silkie.

bizzey · 03/12/2023 20:14

I am so grateful that someone has already mentioned that the " silkies " are chickens!

I didn't want to embarrass myself there. 😅🤣🤣!

DS is at the big one in London .
The Old Bailey.

This experience could go one way or the other !!

bizzey · 03/12/2023 20:37

Just 21 years ., is too young for this responsibility ?

I am being an over protective mummy now aren't I ! 😅

I don't want him to hear cases that involve child abuse or murder and torture 😞.

My cooking skills will have to come into action ext year , .asking sur he has a nice meal when he gets in and some nice snacks to take with him .

Might have to find a nice brownie recipe!

bizzey · 03/12/2023 20:44

Lost some letters there 🤣🤣!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/12/2023 22:30

Bizzey, I was only 22 or so when I attended the Coroner's inquest. I wouldn't worry too much. I do understand, though. No one wants to be part of a jury if the crime details are quite bad. If it is high-profile I'm sure it would be on the news. 🤔

Managed to get some chores done and now re-watching season 5 of The Crown while wearing leg compression cuffs. Trying to get ahead of any swelling that might occur as I get further along. Have been diligent wearing compression socks daily for past few months.
Last time calves and feet were HUGE in last couple days, but that may have been anomaly as really wasn't bad at all until I was packing for hospital. 🤷‍♀️

Silkie, I don't think I'm doing more than anyone else with a normal pregnancy might. Maybe it just sounds impressive... 😃

I might brave heading out to Chinese butcher for roasted duck for dinner (to trial my Xmas dinner idea). The place I have in mind is a nightmare for parking, though. 🤔

mathanxiety · 03/12/2023 22:51

I'm currently under the weather with a cough that would out a 40 a day smoker to shame.

I spent all day Thursday shivering but managed to get my emissions test done after work, and bought my annual vehicle sticker (a round trip drive of two hours), then came home and found I had a temp of 101.4, which explained a lot about feeling like something the cat dragged home, so I went to bed and took the day off on Friday.

There's a lot to do to prepare for Christmas and this is very much a lost weekend, but I'll have a little time during the week to catch up.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/12/2023 23:06

Math, nice you popping on the thread, but I'm sorry you are sick. Sounds awful! 💐
Up here they're calling it the season of the triple-demic: flu/covid/rsv. I hope it's none of that for you and you are better soon. 🩷

Silkiefloof · 03/12/2023 23:16

I'm very happy I've never been called MissC Long may that continue. I don't think we have anything like that Grand Jury here though not a legal expert. Floof also likes chicken. He starts trilling every time DH says he's going to see our chickens. Though thankfully I don't think Floof or Silkiecat realised the silkies are chickens with so much fluff.

Hope you are feeling better soon Math

Oh the Old Bailey Bizzey wonder what that trial is about. I used to be friends with a barrister who would go there but I never paid that much attention. Hope it won't be really long or a murder.

I think you are doing really well Havoc

Thanks Mallards

Silkies moved today, roast dinner and apple strudel and swimming, did 130 lengths, jacuzzi and sauna, also had a toffee nut latte at the cafe with DH. DH sat out swimming and was on phone to his brother instead.

HelenaJustina · 04/12/2023 06:53

I was called to do jury service when youngest DC was about 8 months old. Spending the days with adults, discussing adult things, precipitated my move back into the work place. I started seriously job hunting as soon as I finished.

bizzey · 04/12/2023 14:38

Helena ...That sounds like a really positive Jury experience.....I am hoping this will " wake" him up a bit as well..( not that you needed waking up ! I am sure your little one was doing enough of that for you ! 😅)

I do feel he has got a bit stuck in the safety of his job at the moment.

Easy job , ..hours that he likes...money for house keeping...and beer !!😅!

He has a good brain ...that he just doesn't use !

Easy option all the time !

Gosh ...he sounds just like his mother ..ha ha !!

bizzey · 04/12/2023 14:41

Very good day for me here today ...

I must be in my " Luna Phase " 😅!

Fridge/Freezer sorted .
Towels used for the mop up , washed and dried .
(Kept milk in the garden , so I have also had my cuppas !)

Sitting room cleaned...ready for the tree and decs ..

Just need to do a big food shop to fill up the F/F !!

bizzey · 04/12/2023 15:16

And ...BOOM !

It is still not working properly 😞!

Back of fridge is starting to freeze over !

I have got some news paper that I keep for wet trainers to roll up and put in freezer , as I heard that is what you are meant to do with empty freezers .

Was doing so well !

vernatheraven · 04/12/2023 18:49

My dog pissed in a curtain. Ffs

mathanxiety · 04/12/2023 19:34

Feeling a bit better today, and back at work. Many thanks for the good wishes :-)

I made some hearty vegetable soup to keep me healthy, and tea brack as it's the closest thing to Christmas cake I can manage. I included a splash of whiskey with the tea I soaked the raisins in.

I need to get laundry done this evening and I'll be back to where I was last Friday with chores.

MissConductUS · 04/12/2023 20:35

Mallards, your CPS would be our District Attorney's office. I think the Grand Jury system was established as a check against malicious prosecution by the state. I'll have to look more into the history of it.

Bizzey, it may be time for a new fridge. I have an LG that I really like.

Verna, are there other dogs lurking outside the house? It sounds like territory marking.

Math, welcome back to the land of the living. This is going to be a tough winter for viruses. We lost a lot of immunity during the covid lockdowns.

We had a FaceTime call with DD last night and mostly discussed wedding-related things that needed to be done when she's home on Christmas break. She has to meet with the wedding planner and the florist, visit the bakery to get flavor samples, and help the groom pick out a suit for the wedding. We offered to pay for it as our Christmas gift to him. All of the bridesmaids have chosen lavender as the dress color.

OP posts:
HelenaJustina · 05/12/2023 06:36

That’s kind of her to let them choose their own Miss is that going to inform the colours generally?

IWanderedLonely · 05/12/2023 07:42

Full of cold again. Bedside tissues box ran out at 3am so had to go searching for new tissues.
On a positive note I almost completed my Christmas shopping at weekend, just some interesting beers to buy for DH and DS. We have a lovely little shop in town that just sells small independent breweries and gins etc that you'd never see in supermarkets.

Tilllly · 05/12/2023 10:26

That's posh @IWanderedLonely
Idve grabbed loo roll

My morning did not start well, I was having a quiet, peaceful shower when the door fell off and landed on me

Just fell off the runners and splatted me

MissConductUS · 05/12/2023 16:28

Helena, she's chosen lavender and jasmine as her two primary colors. Now that the bridesmaids have all selected lavender for their dresses, I expect she'll pick up more green shades in other areas, like the flowers or other decorations. I think the linens that the venue provides are off-white, so we may be stuck with those.

Tillly, how awful about your shower door. Did the glass break? We had our shower replaced during covid, and the shower door blokes dropped the door while installing it. It shattered, creating a huge mess. We had to wait weeks while they procured a replacement.

The weather looks good for my trip to Boston on Thursday. I'll start packing tonight.

OP posts:
Silkiefloof · 05/12/2023 16:48

Tillly Hope you are OK and shower door can be fixed. Hope the week gets better.

Glad you are starting to feel better Math

Hope you feel better soon Iwandered

Hope the weather stays good for your trip to Boston MissC

Had a call with cahms for DS today with the team leader which went OK, they have largely disappeared but still the odd meeting. Played the musical advent gramophone, Floof seems to love it, sits by it when it plays bouncing his tail. Its quite loud and I think might scare an average sized cat but Floof only seems to have the happy emotion. Other than water, he clearly hasn't read the Maine Coon likes water instruction manual. For our meeting DH shut the door which of course let to Floof banging it then DH left it a quarter open and went downstairs to fetch something for it and this caused a complete dilemma for Floof. He wanted to be in the room and in the meeting but also downstairs and both sides of the quarter open door so was sticking his head out, head in, head out every 5 secs and really peering like a giraffe stretching its neck. He was poking DH every few hours in the night.

DD has her interviews for Oxford tomorrow and Thursday for college she applied for and then there may or may not be more next week. Its a slightly odd system in Cambridge you get more interviews if first college had rejected but others might want whereas at Oxford your first college can still take.

DH bought the stand for the real Christmas tree yesterday evening so we will attempt to put that up tonight and go swimming and also need to do bins. Though one of those may not happen. Just watching Below Deck Med with a cup of tea.

IWanderedLonely · 05/12/2023 20:42

Tilllly 😀we're frequently down to our last toilet roll, so I've learned from bitter experience to avoid it.
Had leftovers for tea as didn't manage to shove the grandchildren out of the door till 6.30pm. Should be wrapping Christmas presents but no energy, so lounging with MN and a lemsip.

bizzey · 05/12/2023 20:55

Tillly. .. I bet that gave you a shock !

I have added to my list of managing to do stupid injuries 😂.

Stubbed my toe earlier and it is really painful !

I am hobbling around with no sympathy from ds !!

I think they just expect me to do these stupid things now 😂😂!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/12/2023 21:33

Tilly, your shower door fell in??? 😲
Bizzey, stubbing a tow is surprisingly so painful! 😩
Math, glad you are feeling better. ☺️
Miss, colours so pretty. 😍

Was awake 4am-7am. Ugh. 🙁
Managed a 2 hr nap, though. 🥳
Very late in the day to get going, but about to get ready and head out downtown again. Might try and return a pair of shoes bought online for Havoc as exchange. Downtown store is only one with same ones available. Online returns not available and price no longer on sale. (Vans). 😡
Havoc is asking, Wanna go play? 🥰🥰🥰
That's my cue. ☺️

Silkiefloof · 05/12/2023 22:42

Just back from swimming. We got fair amount done this evening, bins out then went to cafe for a coffee together and then both went swimming and I swam 115 lengths and we went in jacuzzi. Also got the stand on the real Christmas tree and put that in living room, its around a metre from DS but he seems fine with it. Just having a last cup of tea and watching rest of Below Deck Med. Had a McDonalds on way home, DH and I both had the chicken big mac though he had the meal, I just had the burger. Got a quarterpounder meal for DS and DD has a McPlant meal.

bizzey · 05/12/2023 23:05

Silkie ..We had McDonald's today as well !

I am still doing my online food shop order...and trying not to get carried away !

I literally have to fill both fridge and freezer from scratch.

I didn't think it would be so difficult 😅.
