I am having a weird old day today that is hard to explain.

I don't like to moan when others are going through such tough life challenges...

But I have just not been able to warm up for a few days .

I have layers and stuff on me ..
But today I checked my gas/electric account and saw that I am quite a bit in credit...
Sooo ...I put the heating on ..on constant ...with the thermostat turned down a bit lower .

Plus ...I put the electric hot air blower in the kitchen on as well.
(No radiator in the kitchen 😭)

The kitchen can go down to 12 degrees .
That's pretty miserable when standing at a sink washing up ...no matter what good music you have got coming from the radio 😅!

Sounds stupid ...but ...when I have hospital appointments and then GP ringing me after to catch up x2...including 8.54pm ! ..(was meant to have been 3-4pm )
My bones just go cold and I can't warm up .

Stressful week ahead ..

Someone coming to check the water out .

Empty long gully to get Christmas decks out ...which is also the home of the boiler if they need that again..

DS coming next weekend ..
Can't just dump everything anywhere as he needs to sleep there ..

Sort out all the bits and bobs I have bought for mamas friends that she is going to give them and take them upto her ...and wrap them for her !

Put tree up

Look at all the stuff I have bought for Christmas...and really wish I had not gone on that Christmas Bargain thread 🤣🤣!

Start wrapping .

OPEN THE BAILEYS !!!

bizzey · 02/12/2023 00:53

Why do hospital appointments for ds drain me so much ?

bizzey · 02/12/2023 00:55

Not as bad as some ...but we were -1 today outside .

I think it is the big drop ...
We 7 -10 degrees last week !

bizzey · 02/12/2023 00:59

Gosh !
So sorry to be a moany old minny !

Silkiefloof · 02/12/2023 01:05

Thanks Havoc Glad you had a good time with your friend. Have a lovely Christmas lights evening.

Moan away Bizzey hospital appointments for kids are stressful and being cold is horrible. Its minus 3 outside here at the moment but we have heating at 19C or 20C all the time and I have fleece bedding so we are quite lucky with that. Plus we have Floof. No-one could be cold under 8kgs of Floof.

I hope our real Christmas tree arrives soon. Want it up. Got a musical gramophone advent calendar and we played the first song, love it but it was very loud and a bit high pitched. Thankfully DS was OK with that. Floof is trilling.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 02/12/2023 01:57

The botanical gardens looks lovely Silkie. Naughty Floof eating cake though.

I didn't realize your baby was so imminent Havoc. I'm so tired when I read the thread I think I don't always take it all in. Maybe you'll get a Christmas Day baby?

Sorry you've had a rotten day Bizzey. Maybe tomorrow will be better. I've been feeling sad too for some reason, probably hormones for me.

I agree save the date cards are a good idea too MissC, it's too easy to forget about an email but I must go in the fridge about 50x a day so would be constantly reminded.

I've been putting up the tree and decorations today. All lit up and sparkling now ☺️

bizzey · 02/12/2023 02:23

Talking of fridge magnets ...
They do not stick to integrated F/F .

Like my stupid one that does not know the difference whether it is a fridge or freezer!!

Freezer is empty ready for defrosting.
Fridge just has a few bits in to use up for lunch .

But a can of coke exploded in there earlier!!

I mean ..
How can a can of coke explode by being frozen in a fridge 😭😭!

Interesting mess..I have closed the door and left it !

It will be easier to wipe out tomorrow 😅!

My milk for my tea has not been harmed by exploding coke cans thank goodness 🤣!

bizzey · 02/12/2023 02:24

I did say I was having a rubbish day !

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/12/2023 04:07

Bizzey, liquids expand as they freeze.
Mallards, so glad you've got sparkly lights to look at. Baby better not arrive early - I've got a section scheduled. 😯

Commute to gardens took 45 minutes due to an accident. 🤦‍♀️ By the time we arrived it was raining and although I had Havoc in waterproof winter gear I was without umbrella or hat and was not in weather-proof coat. 🤦‍♀️
stayed all of 20 minutes, hair soaked, water dripping down my face ... got back into car and then thought about popping into shop to buy umbrella but thought "f-it, I'm soaked and freezing..." 🤷‍♀️ Havoc doesn't know any different and we'll go back, but tonight was the opening and the firefighters were there and giving rides in the firetruck (!) and I really wanted that experience for Havoc. (Next year!!!) So, on the drive home I detoured through a neighbourhood well-known for lots of Christmas lights. Now watching Elf and eating a second slice of banana bread. Will finish decos tomorrow. 😀
Forecast is for another atmospheric river next few days...🌧️🌧️🌧️

sueelleker · 02/12/2023 08:58

Silkie; Those pictures are lovely, where was it? We went to Wisley last year, and are booked for Wakehurst on Thursday.

Silkiefloof · 02/12/2023 20:29

Hope you have a good time at Wakehurst Sue We go there sometimes. Those photos are from the botanic gardens in Cambridge.

Hope decs have gone well Havoc and Mallards DH picked up the real tree today but didn't get a stand for it so that's for tomorrow. Also moved silkie's coop to somewhere warmer. Need to move rest of their stuff tomorrow.

sproutsandparsnips · 02/12/2023 22:24

Ah Havoc I would have done the same. Went to Luminate tonight and rain almost held off for most of it!
Bizzey definitely open the Baileys after your week. Wishing you luck for next week! As an aside I have bought Lidl's own salted caramel liquor, but have not yet opened it.....
Silkie I was sorry to read of your MN friend, sending love. DS got drunk for the first time after his GCSE results in August ( to be fair I think I had underestimated the pressure he put himself under) and I had to collect him from his friend's house. Sounds like DD far more sensible!
Miss save the date cards sounds very sensible. You are very organised!

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 27: Calmly through the day
Silkiefloof · 03/12/2023 00:29

Lovely picture Sprouts DH is just off now fetching DD, we were wondering where she was and checked and got a I'm in x but I need help to get home. 🤔

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 03/12/2023 00:40

Ahh you've got lovely light pics too Sprouts. I'm feeling left out now! 😆

My decs are all done Silkie, I don't have much it would be overwhelming in a small space but it marks the start of the Christmas countdown for me so I'm glad I got them up on 1st. Had the Christmas music playing while I did it.

That's disappointing you got rained out Havoc, I guess it wasn't meant to be, wishing you better luck for next year.

Bizzey some places I've lived the fridge needs turning down for winter and up for summer. It depends on how the property holds heat (and the budget for putting the heating on). Hope the cleanup mission doesn't take too long.

Today I have mostly been freezing cold. I think the neighbors must have gone out, it's always colder when I'm not stealing their heat by whatever means heat comes through walls (I'm no scientist! 😂).

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/12/2023 03:51

Managed to go back to the lights at the gardens earlier! Yea! Weather was good, chilly, but was properly dressed and had the umbrella just in case ... 😁
Havoc ran around and I chased..😅

HelenaJustina · 03/12/2023 09:36

Silkie I’ve always said to my DC that I’d rather they rang at some ungodly hour for a lift, than that they got in a car with someone who had been drinking or who made them feel unsafe. I said I might not be happy about it but it’s always the right decision!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/12/2023 10:25

Just getting into bed a 2:00am...😴
Tree and lights on deck DONE! Tree is a bit Charlie Brown, but it'll do.😂😃
Load of laundry washed and hung up.
Tidied up and purged about 3 old sets of lights. 😊
Had a bath, watched a bit of a movie and ate some yummy indulgent yoghurt: cherry cheesecake flavour. 😋
Rain due overnight and looks to last for next few days.
Planning on aquarium with Havoc this coming week as Santa will be there.
May make some mulled wine and ginger cookies to give as gifts this week.
Have got a craving for sticky toffee pudding, too. 🤔
I am thinking I will forgo sending cards this year - I've usually sent them by now anyway. I've got the cards out, but haven't a clue where I've packed my address book...😼

Luminate looks good, Sprouts,
Silkie, did you go to same?
Pics look similar!

bizzey · 03/12/2023 11:38

Ohh I had a much better day yesterday!

I left the heating on , on constant overnight but with the thermostat set at 13/14.

It made such a difference to the house !

It must have kicked in at some point overnight.

I then kept it at 16/17 for the day with a little tweek to 18 at one point !!

It is a very old system where the thermostat is just a dial with 10 and 20 numbered and dots going up in 2's in between so hard to get exact number !

But it has made such a difference!

I don't think being frugal with my heating is good for my health ,moral or well being 😅!

Mallards ..thats interesting about the temp inside the fridge .

I do adjust it ...when I remember!

Didn't know house ambient would affect it though.

I always thought it was something to do with how full your fridge is ..?

Some thing like ...at end of week when fridge is almost empty...turn up the dial....
Then when shopping comes and fridge is full ...turn down the dial ...

Could be the other way round of course 😅😅.

bizzey · 03/12/2023 11:46

We did have a big laugh yesterday when a big letter arrived for working DS.

It had Crown Court on the address on the back !

I took it upto him and said ....
Either you have been called to stand in front of a jury.....or you have been called up for jury service ...😅!

Please tell me it is the later 🤣.!!

By the expletive that I heard come out of his mouth ...I knew it was the later 🤣!

Not because it is jury service.....but because he has to get to the other side of London by 8.30am every morning 🤣🤣🤣!

(I am going to be knackered making sure he is up and out by 6.45 every morning!)

In his job at the moment...his early shift ..is 10 am !! 20 mins travel!

bizzey · 03/12/2023 11:54

Younger ds asked what we were talking about ..
I told him ...X has been called up to do Jury service....

He looked at me with mouth open...and said ....

Are they MAD !..
Why on earth would they pick X ..
Do they not know what he is like ? !
🤣🤣!

Surely there are better people to pick than X !!

I then had to explain how the Jury serviced worked ...

bizzey · 03/12/2023 11:57

I am actually really please for ds .

He has had the same (1st and only ) job since he was 18...in a pub.

It will be good for him to experience some of the real world and different people.

Could be the making of him !

bizzey · 03/12/2023 12:05

Havoc ..I stopped doing cards years ago.

I send 4 now only .
I don't miss recieving them either !

With FB , WhatsApp and messenger and stuff...I am in contact with people I would send them to anyway.

Postage stamps prices have just made it to expensive to be bothered now !

Silkiefloof · 03/12/2023 14:54

Good you have the decs up Mallards and playing Christmas music during it is nice.

Jury service will be interesting Bizzey I've never been called.

Glad you got to go to the gardens Havoc Its impressive how much you are out and about 8 months pregnant with a toddler. No it wasn't the same lights one, Luminate do one about 1.5 hours from here and a few round the country but it wasn't a luminate one. I would imagine they used a company that does this all the time as very professional, maybe same company as does RHS ones but doesn't say.

Yes agree Helena

Silkies are moved which is good as they need to be as warm and dry as possible for the winter so they are closer to the house now on a small concrete bit we have in the garden with woodchip and covered. They were moved in their coop and a bit stunned by that then saw and happily came out. They are very fluffy at the moment.

Played the advent gramophone record for 3rd, think its Jingle Bells, and Floof sat next to it bouncing his tail.

Roast dinner in oven and will go swimming later.

Still have to get a Christmas tree stand but they close at 4pm and DH is taking a nap and the only driver so that may have to wait.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 27: Calmly through the day
MissConductUS · 03/12/2023 17:28

Silkie, count yourself lucky that you haven't been called. I've been called a lot, mostly by local courts, but once by a federal court in NYC that would have been an awful commute for me. I got a doctor's note to get me out of that one.

I once served on a Grand Jury, and that was fairly interesting. I don't know if you have them in the UK, but here, before the state brings criminal charges above a certain level, the prosecutor has to present the case to a jury of eighteen citizens, who must decide if there is sufficient evidence to warrant an indictment. This is done on the principle that the government, on its own, doesn't have the power to charge someone with a serious crime. It's normally a formality, and there's an old saying that a good prosecutor can get a Grand Jury to indict a ham sandwich, but there were two cases we turned down. As I recall, we met three days a week for six weeks and heard a lot of cases, including a murder case.

DS has driven to Pittsburgh to visit a friend from uni. It's cold a rainy here. DH has gotten the artificial Christmas tree down from the attic and set it up, so I'll start decorating it today. Since it's just the two of us having dinner, we have a rotisserie chicken from the supermarket to heat up. The cats will like that.

Morning. 😴☁☔
Been awake past hour and a half after about 5 1/2 hours sleep,,,😡
Bizzey, I was called for jury once when a student. Pleaded to be let off as I was student and working. Had to discuss with judge! Ended up on a shorter Coroner's inquest instead. Don't remember the case, but I do remember that an older lady juror forgot to show up for it so Sheriff was sent to get her (!) and she arrived in her gardening clothes - she was literally escorted from gardening in her back yard!!! Must've been quite a story in her family.😂
Silkie, your chickens are so cute!!!
