I was trying to declutter a clothes cupboard but it's an open one and Floof every time I started jumped on top of clothes I was sorting so didn't get that far but did find something that's been missing a year.

ForfarBridie · 05/11/2023 16:49

I had 2 grandchildren down with something like Norovirus today but I had arrived at their home to get them ready for school before I was aware. I really should check my text messages before I get on the road at 6 am but I have to admit I love the dark mornings where I am as it means the scorching summer is over and we are now on our way to 5 glorious months of the most perfect temp.

And apart from that I’m very excited to being going to see Akon and Yeno in Abu Dhabi next month. I asked my girls if they wanted to go and they said no thanks (they have absolutely no musical taste whatsoever) so just before I decided to go alone I asked my 3 Eldest grandchildren and my granddaughters nearly bit my hand off for the tickets. 😂😂. My 16 year old grandson isn’t just to cool for school and he’s not coming either.

It will be almost 66 year old me on the trip plus my granddaughters aged 18 and 13. The big one passed her driving test a few months ago and she’s assured me I won’t have to do the almost 6 hour drive on my own as she’ll share it with me. 🙈😝

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/11/2023 19:05

Morning all! I typed a post on my laptop about an hour ago while still waking up in bed but it didn't seem to post...🤷‍♀️

@merrymelodies welcome to the thread. We're neighbours of sorts. Havoc was born at LGH an my c-section is scheduled there for December. I'm from the Cove area, but now "over the Bridge" and still do tonnes in NV. ☺️
Hope you're not to injured. That fall sounds awful. 😔
Miss, your soon to be in-laws are dense, willfully or not, and rude. 😡 Wishing you lots of luck and patience this coming year.
Hilda, very ambitious of you to get your cake done already! I need to take a page from your book! 👏Your dinner sounds yum!!!
Silkie, if going for/taking out various Asian/Indian meals here it's meant for sharing. When I was in Europe and out with friends, I learned everyone orders for themselves and it would be one dish. Is it like that in the UK?
Whyyy, hoping you are packed and able to get some sleep tonight. ☺️

Clocks turned back last night - yea! Having a lazy morning and watching the Sylvester Stallone doc on Netflix and trying to entertain/manage Havoc at the same time. 😵‍💫

Silkiefloof · 05/11/2023 21:27

Enjoy your concerts Birdie

Havoc It varies here, sometimes we share takeaways which I like as I like a little bit of everything or sometimes it's individual. Varies by family as well.

Just been swimming and did 100 lengths then cleaned downstairs bathroom.

bizzey · 05/11/2023 23:49

Enjoying catching up with everyone's news .

Whyy321 ... hopefully things will settle soon , though must be very hard at the moment.
Maybe, try not to think of it as 6 months and just focus on a week at a time .

@merrymelodies hope you are not in too much discomfort.

Silkie thay concert sounds wonderful.
I love churches and Cathedrals.
I was at Winchester Cathedral a while ago which was amazing.

I will have to hunt for the photos !

bizzey · 05/11/2023 23:49

Will continue in a minute !

LuluBlakey1 · 06/11/2023 00:04

Having been mended earlier in the week, our roof did not leak this time when it rained.

LuluBlakey1 · 06/11/2023 00:05

I am hanging our new bedroom curtains tomorrow.

bizzey · 06/11/2023 00:13

MissC ....the venue looks amazing !
I can understand why the photographer was getting excited!

As for the other stuff going on !
Wow 😳!

Would it be easier to have the WP as the "middle person " so to speak .
They could tell the PIL you can only have x amount as it is physically impossible to go over X number of guests and that is your allocated amount.?

Who the hell has 138 family and friends to invite to their sons wedding!!

At least if WP is doing the awkward talk , that takes the pressure off your DD and stbsil and just let them and you get on with doing all the fun bits of the planning .

bizzey · 06/11/2023 00:15

@LuluBlakey1 always a relief to know that the roof has definitely been fixed ! 😅

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 06/11/2023 00:17

Oh that's beautiful MissC. I'm gobsmacked at the other parents, the cheek of them!

Envious of your concerts Bridie. Hope you don't catch norovirus.

We went to see a fireworks display tonight, it was very good and didn't rain too much.

whyyy321 · 06/11/2023 07:26

I'm amazed your daughter's future in-laws have so many friends @MissConductUS - I don't think I could scrape together 138 people haha! They are being shameless though, are they not cringing at being so greedy with the guest list?? I hope they aren't showing your DD their true colours.

I think takeaway sharing also sort of depends on the food? Maybe just my family but we'd be more likely to share curry dishes than Chinese or Thai? Maybe that's just us! I complicate things by being veggie though.

First night away completed. I met a friend for dinner and watched some TV in bed. Lovely to relax but I feel like a fraud!

Glad your roof is fixed @bizzey

Silkiefloof · 06/11/2023 14:40

Glad you had a nice time with your friend why

We also have a veggie (DD) which complicates sharing things and DS is asd so everything needs to be separate and he loves meat. But there's the same amount of sharing whatever the takeaway, we tend to share starters more than mains though DH and I will split a main if starters. Often the meals are too big for one. DH also has a habit of saying order nothing for him then taking parts of everyone else's😂

Painters and decorators are in today and have painted back door dark red. Guess who has a big dark red paw but was denying everything. Been washed off.

MissConductUS · 06/11/2023 15:39

To be fair, @whyyy321, both of the groom's parents are from large families. His mum is reportedly one of ten siblings. Of the 138, 33 were family friends, and the rest were relatives. Still, 105 must have been every living relative, including children. And yes, they are letting guests bring their kids. I'm not thrilled about it, but it's not my wedding. And the list is now down to a rational size.

Silkie, it's really annoying when people say they don't want anything to eat until they see your meal, then they want half of yours. DD seems to have outgrown her rather severe food pickiness at uni, thank goodness.

Need to refer my daughter private for a surgery. My DH has private health through work.

Need a gp referral. Can't get a fucking appointment

MissConductUS · 06/11/2023 20:25

I'm sorry to hear that, Verna. I hope she's okay. If you have private health cover, would it include a private GP to make the referral? How this works in the UK is a complete mystery to me.

The heron is still here. I caught him on the walkway on top of the dam, in flight and perched on the mysterious stone structure. I was walking towards him, and when I got too close, he took wing.

In dull wedding news, we have decided to do printed save the date cards sent through the post. DD had thought email would work, but we convinced her that it was too unreliable, and people like to put them on the fridge with a magnet.

Silkie, poof Floof and paint! 😂 You know what they say about curiosity.....🙀meow. I bet that red door looks awesome, though!
Whyy, glad you made it through day #1. ☺️

Havoc did well at gymnastics today. Had coach from last spring who is fantastic with the littles.
Just having a bit of lunch now: spaghetti, evoo, garlic, pecorino, asparagus, prawns. If it wasn't for the reflux I'm battling now I'd add a tough of chilli. 😋 I'm always feeling a bit smug when I whip up a nice meal. 🫢
Found a podcast on YouTube, Smartless, and listened to interview with Bono earlier. God that man is accomplished. 👏

IWanderedLonely · 06/11/2023 22:06

Back home now. Came back to dirty pots in the sink, dirty toilet. DS is 26 and knows better. Don't know how to tackle it as he has had MH problems on the past. I'm worried about confrontation, he's living with us while he saves a deposit for a mortgage. I can't imagine how he's going to look after his own place.

DD and grandchildren called round after school, it was lovely to see them and my little grandson (15 months) who I look after, clung on to me like a baby sloth/monkey/koala.Smile

merrymelodies · 06/11/2023 22:43

Hi all... calm and boring rainy day. Grateful to be warm and safe inside.☺️

merrymelodies · 06/11/2023 22:45

This is my poor arm. No cast, just a splint because of the swelling I guess.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 27: Calmly through the day
merrymelodies · 06/11/2023 22:47

Please tell me about this wedding you're planning, @MissConductUS

MissConductUS · 06/11/2023 23:04

That looks quite painful, @merrymelodies. Is the elbow fractured or just swollen and bruised? Does the rib hurt when you inhale? I hope they gave you good pain relief when you were discharged.

Re the wedding, my daughter is recently engaged. She's in her last year of uni, as is her fiancee, and she's 200 miles away in Massachusetts. She also wants to get married next June, so it's a bit of a fire drill trying to arrange it on such short notice. Fortunately, we have a brilliant wedding planner and have found a venue that is available on her preferred date (see pictures up thread).

OP posts:
merrymelodies · 06/11/2023 23:23

Oh how exciting, @MissConductUS! Has she got her dress?
My elbow is cracked, the ER doctor said. He didn't want to put a cast on it because of the swelling. Ribs too. No cast there, obvi.
Happy to know a fellow MNer here, @Mumtobabyhavoc! I had just had my second DC when I joined MN in 2003. So I'm an older mum.

bizzey · 06/11/2023 23:28

Ohhh ouch @merrymelodies 😮!

I bet that is going to turn into a wonderful display of colours over the coming week !(😁😁)

We need an update of how many beautiful shades of purples and blues it will go !

merrymelodies · 06/11/2023 23:32

I will give you all the colourful updates! Meanwhile I'll backtrack and RTFT... 🙄😂
