Sprouts, now you're just showing off! ☺️
But, god, I want some sticky toffee pudding and caramel sauce on this chilly and windy day! 😂😂😂
Trillly, facial sounds lovely. ☺️

Tilllly · 04/11/2023 05:51

Is this you Havoc?!

sproutsandparsnips · 04/11/2023 10:16

Tilllly I love a facial!
Thank you Silkie, I have read the recipe and I think I understand it as it is all in French - very precise and comprehensive instructions!
Waiting to see if game on today.....

Silkiefloof · 04/11/2023 12:11

The cleaners are here but DH is still deaf. I heard them say to him we love your penguin tiles and he replied with yes the lights are great. Then they said can you unlock the front door so we can get to our car and he said yes walked off but clearly had not understood. So I said to him and then he went back and said I've been told you need the front door unlocking the cleaners laughed and said who told you and he didn't hear but did at least unlock the front door. 😂

Yesterday at the swimming pool he was just in the sun loungers as he can't swim and the guy in the sun lounger next to him was trying to make conversation. I could see DH pointing to his ears. Its a bit better than it was.

Hope he will be able to hear the classical music concert, they have a new organ anyway so he will be happy to look around and afternoon tea. But its a shame as he's the one who likes music, I can take it or leave it but was a free event and nice of them.

MissConductUS · 04/11/2023 14:19

Silkie, are his ears still infected? I'd be a bit concerned if he hadn't seen substantial improvement on antibiotics by now. He may need a different type of antibiotic.

DD should be on her way home from uni by now. I'll get some pictures when we visit the reception venue today. DH got the contract from the venue and has sent them a list of questions and corrections, so we'll have to go over those with the sales manager when we're there. Since we're booking less than a year before the wedding date they want a 50% deposit on signing, which I guess is fair. I just hope the kids like it as much as we do.

I was up early this morning and saw a rather rare lunar halo. They're caused by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere, which act as a lens that refracts the moonlight.

I never heard of a Luna halo MissC that's amazing.

I'm having a duvet day.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/11/2023 15:04

Morning...ugh. Been awake since 3am. Havoc wanted milk. Havoc then slept 4-6. Woke up crying w fever. Vomited after tylenol. Waited a bit then gave a little bit of Tylenol w Advil. Drank more milk. Asked for and ate a bit of yoghurt. Fever came down after an hour. 😀
Havoc now wearing my runners and playing. But is obvs v tired. Going to attempt to go back to bed after I finish my decaf latte.
Lots of rain forecasted for this weekend, an Atmospheric River they say...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/11/2023 15:18

Love that pic, Miss! Lucky you caught that! 👏

Havoc, sorry your DS woke up poorly.

You're right, it was a bit of luck. It was fairly cloudy this morning, so I hardly looked up. Venus was the only other object in the sky besides the moon. Here's a bit about how they form.

Great photo MissC Yes still infected though a bit less deaf.

Cleaners did a great job though DS shut himself in downstairs bathroom and DH filled another room full of stuff so 2 rooms they could not do but did upstairs bathroom, living room, dining room and kitchen and rest apart from those 2 rooms was fine anyway. The one of the rooms its just floor so not much at all. Downstairs bathroom DS has got sticky stuff all over it.

Went to the lovely classical concert at the university college in the chapel, was only about 20 of us there so very nice and DH could hear some of it and loves his music, they had instruments including a virginal, and a violin and a double bass. Then they gave us afternoon tea with champagne, smoked salmon sandwiches, cucumber sandwiches (gave those to DH) and chocolate eclairs.

Have come back home again via carwash. Its a bit rainy now and there are firework displays all round but DH is a bit tired and DD is out working / with friends and we saw some last weekend.

IWanderedLonely · 04/11/2023 19:32

We're in Stratford-upon-Avon for the weekend. Had a lovely time & done some Christmas shopping as well as sightseeing. We were last here 17 or 18 years ago.

Silkiefloof · 04/11/2023 19:36

Glad you had a lovely time Iwandered Been there a few times but also a while back. We can currently see fireworks display from our windows, the professional one, though Floof is a bit scared.

Ordered Thai takeaway. DD, DH and I are just having assorted starters and DS is having a red chicken curry and rice. I will probably have chicken satay, veg spring rolls and sweetcorn cakes.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/11/2023 20:27

Silkie, sounds like you and dh had a great night!
Mallards, duvet days are much needed.

Havoc and I both slept over 4 hours waking yp at 12:30pm. Thankfully, Havoc is now cool and energetic.
I'm making oatmeal with steamed apple, cinnamon, nutmeg and pecans. Also have some blueberries.
Clouds have parted and we have some blue sky and sun. Yea!

whyyy321 · 04/11/2023 21:00

@Mumtobabyhavoc same as @Tilllly - I smell snow makes me think of Lorelei Gilmore!

I'm about to start 6 months of working away during the week. I've managed to not think about it for the last few months but my first trip away starts tomorrow and now I'm just feeling very overwhelmed! DS is 14 months and recently become a bit clingy to me, I feel horrifically guilt about being away from him sunday-thurs or so for the next 6 months. Also feeling so guilty about DH having to solo parent. Urgh.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/11/2023 21:11

@whyyy321 sending you support. It won't be easy, but you'll manage. 🩷

Oatmeal was very good. 😛
Clouds are back and I can lo longer see the mountains.
Havoc has stripped down to diaper. 😂
But, did eat apple and blueberries.
We're now watching episodes of Old Enough on Netflix. Little girl on the show was crying; Havoc said "Oh no, crying" Then, "It's okay". 🥹 Now has climbed onto my lap, head on my chest, saying "Awwww." 🥹🥹🥹🩷🩷🩷

mathanxiety · 04/11/2023 23:55

Looks like you also saw Jupiter in the night sky, MissC.

Super photo.

Havoc I hope BabyH will feel better soon.

Whyy I hope the days apart will fly by.

merrymelodies · 05/11/2023 06:16

Good evening from Vancouver. I tripped over my feet while crossing the street and fell flat on my front, with a bruised chin, a fractured rib and a cracked elbow. Mercifully I was seen falrly quickly at LGH (local hospital), X-rays included, and sent home in a semi cast. I'm grateful it wasn't worse! Now I have to hope that I can fall asleep on my back! If not, I'll be back on MN.Grin

whyyy321 · 05/11/2023 09:27

Oh goodness @merrymelodies poor you! I hope you've good pain relief?

Have just left baby and DH (who is staying with his parents for now for the extra help). Cried a good three times already! Urghhh.

Still, I might get to occasionally drink a warm coffee over the next few days so there is always that silver lining!

Hope little @Mumtobabyhavoc is feeling better, he sounds adorable!

MissConductUS · 05/11/2023 15:00

Sue, yes, it's the same phenomenon that causes Sun Dogs.

Silkie, Great photo of the chapel (I love the ceiling), and you got lunch along with the concert. You can't beat that.

Whyy, babies are very adaptable and should be fine once you get into the new routine with DH.

We visited the reception venue yesterday with the kids, future SIL and the WP, and I got a few photos. They were setting up for a wedding while we were there, so we got to see how the main hall (the former chapel sanctuary) looks with tables in it.

It's on quite a high hill looking over the Hudson River, so the views are lovely. The gardens are fairly bare now, but will be awash with flowers next June.

The third photo is a room off the chapel that can be used as a secondary dining space, or a place for the bride and wedding party to relax in. The fourth and fifth are an outdoor courtyard where we can have the cocktail hour if the weather is nice. There are some indoor options for the cocktail hour if it's too hot or raining.

Here's one last picture of a garden overlooking the river. We will be having the ceremony elsewhere, but the photographer was thrilled by all of the possibilities for taking the pictures.

After the tour, we went home and relaxed and talked about the details the WP went through with us, then went out for a lovely dinner.

The one odd note was that my daughter's fiancee mentioned that his father had emailed DH and had not heard anything back. DH located it in his spam folder. When we had our FaceTime call with them a few weeks ago, we were very clear that the budget for the reception wasn't unlimited and that the guest list couldn't exceed 130. They said absolutely nothing in response, and then a few days later, we got their guest list with 138 people on it.

We let DD handle letting them know that it had to be cut drastically. The email DH got two weeks ago was the father claiming that he had offered to pay for additional guests and wanting to know if there were any other expenses they could help with. DH responded, ignoring the false claim that there had been any offer to pay, telling him that we were lucky to get a venue less than a year before the wedding and it had a limit of 120 guests. He suggested that if they wanted to pay for the flowers or transportation, that would be greatly appreciated.

I hope this is the last bit of trouble they cause. I'm still agog at the cheek of the size of their list. I think they were trying it on, seeing if we would just go along with paying for their entire list, and when that didn't work, they claimed that they had offered to chip in. What's done is done, and we're very pleased with how things worked out with the venue.

That’s a lovely venue MissC. And it looks lovely at this time of year so it should be even nicer in fine weather. Although I’m 🤔 about the groom's parents.

@merrymelodies, ouch. That sounds pretty nasty. I have a history of randomly falling flat on my face too, so I sympathise. I hope you’re not in too much discomfort and that you got some sleep.

Having a thoroughly domestic weekend here. Yesterday I made bread, then a big pot of leek and potato soup, followed by fish pie for dinner. Today I made my Christmas cake so the house smells very festive 🎄

We're having roast beef for dinner with cavolo nero picked from the garden. It’s the only edible thing still hanging on in there, but we should get a few more dinners out of it before it finally bites the dust.

HelenaJustina · 05/11/2023 16:02

Venue looks lovely Miss hopefully the stressful bits are behind you now and you can start to enjoy the process. My DM has 3 daughters and 2 sons married to date and loved all of the wedding planning and celebrations!

Busy weekend here with helping at the town fireworks event, seeing family, football matches, swim training, last minute mocks revision and all the normal household weekend tasks. 3DC go back to school after half term tomorrow and will need significant boots in the rear end to get going.

Silkiefloof · 05/11/2023 16:14

Venue looks wonderful MissC Sorry the groom's parents are still being difficult.

Lots of lovely food Havoc, Hilda and Helena

We had a Thai meal last night, a little random what we got as DH is deaf and the Thai have poor understanding of English and DH says yes to everything when they repeat but was nice anyway. Could see fireworks from our window. Floof was scared by the bangs but watching from a window.

Had a roast beef Sunday lunch and have got more food for Floof, washed shower curtain and done bit more decluttering and will go swimming later. DH will sit it out as ear still infected, they did take a swab so presumably will be back in touch. DD has gone to meet friends.
