I'm doing a reset, catching up on all the undone things from the past few days.

I had the dentist recently too MissC, all good. I hope your teeth are too.

Beautiful tortoise Hilda. How long do they hibernate for?

Gosh I'd love to live in a house with so much history Ducks. I'd feel connected to the past.

Like the sound of your costume Merry. It rained all evening here yesterday and I didn't see any trick or treaters out, though I expect there was some.

The moon does affect people's state of mind Bizzey. There's a reason the mentally ill used to be called lunatics. Luna is from moon. The psychiatric hospital does get busier with more patients around the full moon. No reason why the moon couldn't affect a healthy person like yourself in a different way.

Bakewell tart flapjacks has me drooling Lulu, sounds delicious.

Glad the kitchen is finally finished Silkie.

Thanks for the information about Christmas and Thanksgiving Havoc. I can see how Thanksgiving would be a peaceful, happy holiday with the true meaning in people's hearts.

I think the gift giving at Christmas makes it too stressful with all the different expectations, costs, and everyone creating upset with who goes where to spend the day. The true meaning has been totally forgotten by most and it seems to be mainly about metaphorical willy-waving by those who think they should be Queen Bee in the family. I find it all a bit fake and pointless. I'm religious and prefer a day of quiet reflection to a fraught family situation. Of course not all families are dramatic or toxic and plenty do manage to navigate the festivities just fine. I know so many people who get into debt for Christmas presents though, madness. Many more who dread it or who never get to spend it how they like.

HildaTablet · 01/11/2023 15:34

Once he goes off to hibernate he’ll probably be asleep till next February @MallardsMoorhensAndLethe. Lucky him! Wish someone would tuck me up cosily for 4 months of winter.

Echobelly · 01/11/2023 16:31

Realised when I got in from work last night that heating had stopped working (probably the evening before because I did wonder why I was freezing in bed!), luckily nice plumber/engineer we'd used once before was available this afternoon and has replaced a broken electrical thingy so it's now working. Kind of relieved it wasn't that we'd just missed some stupidly obvious thing like a switch somewhere being turned off.

DH and I have decided neither of us will go to this GCSE core subject evening tonight because with this school, while there is some useful info, these events are always waaaay too long, and apparently someone is going to share some notes on class whatsapp so will probably capture the 15 mins of genuinely useful info out of the 2 hours of waffling.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/11/2023 17:20

Good morning all! ☁️
Our ten days, or so, of sun has ended.
Halloween was good!
Watched 6 o'clock news... interview with someone giving out candy in one popular neighbourhood (lots of decos) said had already had 650 kids and previous year had 2300! Honestly, I'd be exhausted. And holy cow the money spend on candy!!!! But, I absolutely admire the community spirit. 👏
Watched morning talk show (Kelly&Mark) from New York and they gave out 6500 (!!!) pieces of candy.
Havoc was really excited when we had a knock on the door and was super cute.
Lots of good fireworks around the neighbourhood, too. Here, people buy them and set them off in their yards or in parks. It's not legal in most areas though....👀
Took Havoc to a friend's for trick or treating and to see house decos. Friend does a great job every year. Havoc still too young for house to house.
Heading out to get car tires looked at but will Check back later to comment on today's posts. 😊

Silkiefloof · 01/11/2023 17:51

Flapjacks sounds nice Lulu

Lovely re Havoc and Halloween Havoc

Lovely tortoise Hilda If he was here he would have a big furry paw poking him a lot.

Floof is sending you the biggest hug @Tilllly and anyone else who needs a Floof hug.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 27: Calmly through the day
Tilllly · 01/11/2023 18:14

Oh @Silkiefloof , my three have sent hisses and claws out to yours and said I do not need any other cat snuggles

Silkiefloof · 01/11/2023 18:20

That's good you are well catered for cat snuggles Tillly Floof says he just needs to help eating the fish of the fish and chips we've got.

Tilllly · 01/11/2023 22:24

We had f&c tonight!

Aethelberht · 01/11/2023 22:49

I've signed up to do surveys through the yougov website. Its interesting to see what they want to know my thoughts on. Today it was the death penalty. Really made me think about my morals and attitude to life. Apparently some time in the dark and distant future I will get something for doing these surveys.

Silkiefloof · 02/11/2023 00:56

Floof enjoyed his fish and would happily have helped with yours as well Tillly We had ours with an Asian slaw from the f&c van which was nice. DS ate all his.

DD was working for the evening serving dinners in a university college, she was annoyed at her start time as if she started an hour earlier you get a free meal taking half an hour which is paid.

Too rainy for painters. DH is very deaf with his ear infection. Floof has been on the bed with him, happy DH is in bed a lot. But a bit annoyed DH isn't doing more cat gaming.

I started those questionnaires but stopped as it looked like after what seemed like 100 of them getting dubious amounts of data I would get £50 in about 2090.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/11/2023 03:14

Helena, didn't know they hibernate! That would be a bit unnerving for me as i'm sure I'd constantly be wondering if it was ok! 🤔
Sprouts, good for you to start Christmas baking prep already! 👏
Miss, ohhh prime rib! Yep, I know someone who does one for Christmas. It's also super popular for Sundays at a lot of pubs here. 😋
You really need Boxing Day down there! You always need a day to lounge and have left-overs!😋😋
Silkie, great respect for your swimming!!!👏

Busy day for me: took car to Costco for tire check. Was told 60-90mins and they'd call when done. Shopped around inside, went to their pharmacy for drop-in covid&flu shot for Havoc, but turned out Havoc was too young and have to book appt for health authority location which I did for Friday. ✅
Shopped around some more, went to food court as pregnant lady hunger emerged...😲
Went to cell phone desk to enquire about cost to add 2nd phone to my acct. ($49, 30gig, intn'l text, N Am calling).
Shopped around some more. Bought Vitamin C cream and wash cloths.
Finally wandered back to tire centre. Apparently they called to pick up car. 😵‍💫
Phone doesn't show any missed calls. 🤔
Silver lining: no charge for tire check, inflate, rotation. New tires not yet needed! ✅
Picked up mum and took her to get her covid&flu shot then we all wandered around the garden nearby before... a bit of a shop at Winners where I lucked out on a snow suit, winter boots, toque and toy fire truck (for Christmas) for Havoc and then... I popped in for a hair cut. Zero traffic driving home (no idea why. Maybe a Pro D day?) at 5pm, made dinner and now am able to relax, have cuddles with Havoc and am thinking about early bed time. I'm now at 30 weeks and have ultra sound tomorrow. Whew! Hope that was a sufficiently mundane read...😂
Oh... I think I smelled snow today! (Many years in ski industry... I have a nose for it! 😂)

Havoc, that sounds like quite the eventful day out. I suspect Costco forgot to call you when the car was ready or called the wrong number. I would love to have Boxing Day in the U.S., but it probably won't happen in my lifetime.

DH signed the contract with the wedding photographer and had a nice chat with her. She and an associate will be at the wedding, so there will be two of them taking pictures. Her fee includes letting the B&G have the full, high-resolution files for all the photos they want after she edits and corrects them as needed. I remember when I got married, most of the photographers wanted to sell you prints or albums and wouldn't give you the negatives. DH did eventually find one that would give us the negatives so that we could get the prints made ourselves.

She may be able to meet us at the reception venue on Saturday to see the place in person and to meet everyone, including DD and future SIL. The WP is working that out with her. It would be nice to see who we'll be working with.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 03/11/2023 12:12

That's good about the wedding pics MissC.

Aetheebhert hope you don't have to wait too long. At least it's giving you food for thought.

Sinkie I hope DH recovers soon, ear infections are so painful.

I love that you can smell snow Havoc, I never knew that was possible ❄️

Today I'll be having a major tidy up of the bedroom.

Silkiefloof · 03/11/2023 12:26

Hope the ultrasound goes well Havoc how exciting to be at 30 weeks.

Good news re wedding photos MissC Hope your DD can meet up on Saturday.

Good luck with bedroom tidying Mallards

Fairly quiet day here yesterday as kitchen now done, and was raining so painters could not come. We had pascade for dinner. DD was at school. DH wfh but not that well with ear infection, not really ill as in feeling unwell but in pain and very deaf. I had call with cahms but that's all on hold atm.

Today painters and decorators are in and its sunny here though not that warm. We will either go swimming tonight just me or more fireworks unless DH is too tired then may do swimming tomorrow instead, just me, tomorrow night looks like will be rainy and not good for fireworks though we have seen one already. A lot are being cancelled here on Saturday night. Saturday we have a classical music concert and afternoon tea at a university college then and cleaners before that in the morning, not had them for ages and a bit lazy but between kitchen guys and DS the downstairs could do with it.

Keep your eye on the forecast over the winter and see if you begin to notice the "scent", too.

mathanxiety · 03/11/2023 18:09

The start of a smowstorm always makes me sneeze.

I'm 'WFH' this morning and have managed to get a lot of housework done - cat litter box dug out, recycling taken out, load of laundry done, dried, sorted, folded, and put away, plus kitchen blitzed. I had planned all of those chores for Saturday, so I'm happy to get them squared away today instead.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/11/2023 19:06

Math, I've heard others say that! Something about ozone, I think.... 🤔 Good for you to blitz clean your place. Always a good feeling! 👏

Lazy morning for me here... Havoc has appt for covid&flu shot later.

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 03/11/2023 19:20

Dh and I the morning in Hove abd I finally got to go in Taj the grocers where we very excitedly found some very nice looking naan for dinner tonight.
I also got to go to Oeuf Cafe for brunch, they sell Frumpets which are crumpets dipped in French toast mix and fried. Yum, this was our 3rd visit and I had this (someone else's photo off the internet). Frumpets with spinach, cheese and crispy bacon...

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 27: Calmly through the day
Aethelberht · 03/11/2023 19:22

Wrote a letter and posted it today. I do find myself getting excited about the response even though a) it hasn't even been received yet and b) hardly anyone writes back.

merrymelodies · 03/11/2023 19:40

Good finds at Winners, @Mumtobabyhavoc! Is that the one at PR?

I used to be a wedding photographer, @MissConductUS. It's a job with heavy responsibility!

DD and I found ourselves sitting outside in our car at midnight last night as our smoke alarm decided to go rogue and announce the presence of CO in our house. After a visit from the fire dept and gas company, we were given the all clear to go back to bed. Phew!

I live in Brighton and I've never heard of Oeuf! It looks fantastic-I'll definitely give it a try. Thanks.

sproutsandparsnips · 03/11/2023 22:28

Havoc and yesterday I steamed the Christmas pudding!
Silkie, poor DH being deaf is so annoying. What is 'pascade'?
Hilda, thank you DTortoise is very handsome!
Back from work and relaxing. Yet another day of mass catering for rugby team tomorrow. I was hoping game off but apparently pitch is holding up well......

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 03/11/2023 22:32

Those frumpets Stiffy 🤤

I love letter writing too aethelberht but have the same issue as you.

Glad it was a false alarm merry.

Thanks for the link Havoc. Very interesting.

Everything makes me sneeze Math. Started after my last covid jab sadly.

Bedroom tidying went very well and looks tons better at last.

Silkiefloof · 03/11/2023 22:47

Sprouts Pascade is like pancakes with spring onion and bacon in. We actually had pasque joue which is the mini version, the word comes from French for Easter. Its a French regional dish quite simple. https://www.marmiton.org/recettes/recette_pascades_26970.aspx

Been swimming today and steam room and sauna, 120 lengths, DH sat on the chairs as still got ear infection but we had a coffee together at cafe first.

Tomorrow have the classical concert and afternoon tea, just got an email saying photos will be taken, argh, need to think more about what wear then, it's quite cold and wet tomorrow.

Tilllly · 03/11/2023 22:50

I had a (very rare) facial today
