Hello, checking in. I’m alive and well although not having the best day as I’m in Maine and there is a gunman on the loose…

HildaTablet · 26/10/2023 13:08

@ZZTopGuitarSolo 😱 This has been all over the news here. Stay safe. It’s horribly worrying for you all.

Silkiefloof · 26/10/2023 13:13

So sorry ZZ Hope he is captured soon and the situation calms.

Silkiefloof · 26/10/2023 13:23

Thanks for the trades sympathy. We had a good days work done here yesterday but still a day to go I think and impossible extractor fan is handed to me to solve, argh. I am happy to source but when it's not mission impossible. I generally do source myself as I like to choose what we like but with a cooker hood just want any that fits. Mastic man has been, all of 10 mins including 2 mins of Floof compliments, big men seem to love big cats. 😻

And chasing the special collection, three emails and three phone calls now and the latest one told I had phoned at wrong time and should phone again at 4pm after 20 mins waiting to be answered. I was not best pleased but apparently emails take 5 days to answer and callbacks are 3 days meanwhile the rubbish is outside. Some people are really made to work for the council. 😂At least it's all non animal attracting. Didn't take them more than 30 mins to charge me £49. Though tbf it was police closing road that caused issue. The village store being burgled is like the 1 event a year for the police here.

Going swimming tonight. Got a fireworks display tomorrow, week earlier than most for local air ambulance. Need to dig coat out.

WmFnKdSg1234 · 26/10/2023 13:57

@Silkiefloof My SIL spent 24 months writing, making calls, and generally being a nuisance before her trades people returned and completed.

Sometimes the end being in sight can be frustrating as trades don't seem to prioritise snagging...

Silkiefloof · 26/10/2023 14:23

That sounds painful for your SIL @WmFnKdSg1234

I don't know what it is with tradesmen that they do the first 50 percent fine them the next 25 percent with delays so maybe 2 days a week then they disappear. Do they just get bored or something? Last bit annoying? So they can start other jobs quicker and win work. Want somewhere to store tools. A male thing? DH also does half jobs and leaves them. That's why I went for female painters and decorators.

But some progress, they are now sourcing extractor fan and making a unit for it. I asked about that yesterday as said you can't get 59cm ones and they said no look harder. Now they are making the unit I suggested so clearly they can't find a 59cm one either. Well that or we will get a sillily high bill for this. Though at this stage just want finished. At least they tiled before to ceiling.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 27: Calmly through the day
HildaTablet · 26/10/2023 15:03

Things come in standard sizes and they do tend to be in even numbers. I’d be fairly surprised if, given the standard size for a cooker fan is 60cm, they also make a 59cm one….I’m prepared to be proved wrong but that’s my hunch.

bizzey · 26/10/2023 15:47

I have finally ordered the new sideboard/ unit thing I want for my hallway.

Taken me ages (🤣😭 what a surprise!!) to work out what comprises I needed to consider the most important.

90 X 36 cm
75 x 32 cm

I wanted 75 x 36 cm !!

We will keep our printer on this item and I am concerned that 32 cm is a bit too shallow .

The one I have at the moment is a
90 X 50 cm ....so I am definitely downsizing 🤣!

But it is just a glorified dumping ground and looks a mess.

It has open squares / cubby holes on the front which were great when the boys were at school as everyone had their own box for their PE/Rugby/swimming kits and stuff.

Everything was always washed bagged and put in there.
Which was great for the days when they were going out the door to suddenly decide to tell me ....ohh we are going games today instead of swimming as they are doing work on the pool 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️.

Not a problem ...here's a bag I prepared earlier 🤣🤣!

No matter how many times I reorganize the games and stuff that is in there ...it still looks messy...
Soooo.....

I have ordered the smaller one with doors in front !!

Everything can be hidden away!

Out of sight an all that !!

bizzey · 26/10/2023 15:51

Got to empty it all out now and then the boys can lift it out tomorrow.

Very common around our way to leave out items with a sign saying free , take me sort of thing.

bizzey · 26/10/2023 15:52

Sort of like a free garage sale !

bizzey · 26/10/2023 15:58

I have just realised...I have had it for nearly 10 years ! 😭!

Ohh welll....no going back now !

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/10/2023 19:17

ZZ, yes, watching news about it here. Awful. Very glad you checked in here amd are ok.

mathanxiety · 26/10/2023 19:44

ZZ thinking about you and your family. I hope they catch the gunman. I'm sure you do too. Hope you'll all be OK.

TheSweetEndOfTheLollipop · 26/10/2023 20:17

Lovely day today. Went to the V&A in London, saw the Diva, and the Coco Chanel exhibition, both were utterly incredible. Love the V&A

TheSweetEndOfTheLollipop · 26/10/2023 20:19

@ZZTopGuitarSolo
So sorry, can't imagine how stressful it must be for you 💐

bizzey · 26/10/2023 20:32

So sorry 😔 , I missed what was happening in Maine 🌹

Tilllly · 26/10/2023 21:58

I'm drinking my valerian tea and hoping for decent sleep

Silkiefloof · 26/10/2023 22:06

I said the same Hilda like why would you have a 59cm hood for a 60cm cooker. At least resolved now the way I suggested.

Hope they catch the man soon Z hope you have enough food and drink in the house if you are stuck there.

Sounds like a lovely day Lollipop Not been there for years.

Just been swimming and bit of hoovering. Finally got the special collection confirmed for Monday which is OK as we never got round to adding last 3 bags so can add them now.

Just had a quarter pounder after swimming but did do 110 lengths.

bizzey · 26/10/2023 23:00

I looked up that tea ....

Does it really send you off to sleep ?

Can I put milk and sugar in it ?

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 26/10/2023 23:35

Fingers crossed you don't encounter the gunman ZZ.

Sounds fantastic Lollipop I'm jealous.

AFAIK nobody adds milk and sugar to herbal tea Bizzey, but I'm sure there's no law against it! Usually people would add honey if they needed to sweeten it. Most herbal tea is more accurately described as a plant infusion and contains no tea at all. Yes valerian will help you sleep, although if you want it to knock you out you're probably better off getting it in pill form or obtaining the plant and brewing it yourself, the commercially available tea alone is unlikely to be strong enough for that.

I've been writing a letter to a friend. A very peaceful way to spend the evening.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/10/2023 01:34

Just got home from a chilly afternoon out. Took Havoc to a suburb, Surrey, where there is a mini train and the route is decorated for Halloween. It was quite well done! Attached link & a pic from the tunnel.
>melatonin is considered a supplement here and some people take it for sleep and to help with jet lag.
>I've only ever had herbal tea plain and strong
>haven't had a 1/4 pounder in years! I did have a McChicken last week when I had sudden pregnant lady hunger - I was underwhelmed.

Just having a cup of the last bit of soup to warm up. Havoc is out like a light in the stroller, so will allow this late nap and enjoy some rare quiet time. 😁

bizzey · 27/10/2023 02:27

Havoc .. you went to Surrey you say. You should have popped in for a cuppa 😂😂.
It is my next door county ...20 mins down the road ! 🤣

Though I will still have to at least offer you milk with your tea at least !

I am the weirdo who still has to have milk with an Earl Grey or Red Bush tea 🤣🤣.

I know 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️.
Sorry to all you non milk tea drinkers !
Sacralige ,I am aware !

Worst thing about my pregnancies was that I couldn't tolerate tea !

It was always how I realized that I was pregnant in the first place .

No early testing sticks then ....just the heave , from having morning cuppa 🤢🤣!

A friend told me to try Earl Grey ..I did ...with milk and 2 sugars .

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/10/2023 02:33

Bizzey, I'll be sure to let you know next time I'm in the neighbourhood! 😁
I'm just putting dinner on now: salmon and roasted veg (potatoes, zucchini, mushrooms) that I plan to put a huge dollop of extra fat sour cream on. I just found a sour cream with 18%mf instead of the usual 14%. 😛😛😛

bizzey · 27/10/2023 02:35

I am ready to say goodbye 😔😭 to my unit ( that has been annoying me for ages !) tomorrow.

Everything emptied and charity collection booked for next week for the stuff/games that I don't need as I didn't even know they were in there in the first place !

And I really think me and the boys are passed the stage of 3D snakes and ladders game now !

Silkiefloof · 27/10/2023 03:13

Dinner sounds lovely Havoc

I also put milk and a sugar in earl grey tea Bizzey 😂

I am struggling to sleep so watched a programme on Netflix on coastal Ireland, I liked Skellig Island best. I may need some of that herbal tea Mallards but like Bizzey I would be trying to put milk and sugar in it as well as making it so weak it probably would have no effect.

Floof is very happy I am awake and has been for cuddles and trilling. He is now playing ball with a Christmas tree silver bauble, we have no idea how he managed to get it from the cupboard but he's very pleased with himself. We have a really long trill atm.
