School dinner ladys wearing uniform in playground

Euribia · 26/09/2023 10:12

I work at a local primary school where I know a few parents who are dinner ladys i keep noticing they wear their uniform when dropping their own kids off and then they go home and then come back at lunchtime. Do you feel this is appropriate. Im not sure whether to mention it to our head

Good job OP

discusting behaviour showing off and being unhygenic, probably sat smoking at home in it then go back to make the lunches 🤢

Are you seriously this much of a nasty judgemental snob ? You've never even met them or OP!

Well I'm very very glad I don't work in your school. Why can't they wear the uniform? Arr the school ashamed of them?

They have our logo school hoodies on and then its like a chef white type of uniform I just think is it showing off in the playground to other parents bringing them attention /questions along with it not being hygienic. As they prepare food and serve it

Yes, definitely complain. That way the school will know exactly what you are like. You should also tell the other Mums, so they know what you are, as well.

Better out in the open than festering away hidden, eh?

ReadingSoManyThreads · 26/09/2023 14:12

You're right, people who work in kitchens or food manufacturing environments absolutely should not be wearing their workwear outside of those environments. It's unhygienic and against food safety requirements.

Same as how nurses etc. should also not be wearing their uniforms outside of work.

I'm glad the school have confirmed this is against the rules and will take appropriate action.

For those aghast at this being an issue, it's actually hazardous which is why it's against safety requirements.

Sueveneers · 26/09/2023 13:02

Of course it's not unhygienic! They'd wear an apron and gloves, she's not wearing them in the car! And as others on this thread have said, they've seen McDonalds workers in uniform on the bus or train. It's normal.

The Food Standards Agency disagrees with you - Safety Point 2

The OP said they were going home, so presumably some form of transport/walking is involved and it calls into question what activities are carried out while wearing the uniform if not only wearing it in the food serving/prep area.

If other McDonalds workers are wearing uniform to/from work maybe their rules are more lax than our franchisee’s were, or they just haven’t been reprimanded.

Well here's an update! I mentioned it as its against our school rules that we don't wear uniform in the playground and infant the headteacher was very happy to receive the information and it will be spoken about in our next meeting

In real terms the Headteacher has detached a retina, rolling their eyes at you 🙄🙄

How long have you been in your job OP?

It's about 3 weeks isn't it?

There’s always one snakey fucker in the workplace running to the boss about the pettiest and most pointless shit. If you have headspace for this you’ve got too much time on your hands.

This. Exactly this.

Wetblanket78 · 26/09/2023 14:14

I've worked in kitchens we weren't allowed to travel to work in our work clothes. We had to get changed in work. Even got in trouble for nipping out to the shop if we ran out of something. So the waiting on staff had to go which they moaned about.

sashh · 26/09/2023 13:47

Thank you for that mental image. I'll never look at a dinner lady the same again.

Also I'm fairly sure they will not be wearing a hoody while cooking.

I can’t imagine bondage gear and a strap on offering much protection from being splashed with hot fat - hence the hoody !!

Dullardmullard · 26/09/2023 14:18

Christ almighty wearing your uniform to work for a kitchen is a no no and disgusting all I can think of is all the cross contamination going on and I own a kitchen and my staff are not allowed to be in theirs till shift, we have lockers for that.

nurses were they not told to not wear their uniforms to and from work because of covid?

Wetblanket78 · 26/09/2023 14:18

MartinChuzzlewit · 26/09/2023 14:07

Your headteacher is called Infant?

Strange name.

No it's the type of school. I went to a separate infant's and junior school. Infants 4-7 juniors 7-11. I hope you understand my explanation. Though a lot now are combined primary schools age 4 right up to 11.

My sons have worked at 2 McD's franchises (one each) and both wore their uniform to travel to work. Ds2 particularly is a proper rule follower, there's no way he was getting away with something that was against the rules, it would have worried him.

DriftingDora · 26/09/2023 14:20

Just read the update. Thanks for services to mankind, OP.

Of all the.....

MartinChuzzlewit · 26/09/2023 14:21

I completely understand not bringing outside germs on when you’re opening a body up, but I’m pretty sure our dinner ladies chain smoked whilst serving our baked bean rounders and we turned out fine
