School dinner ladys wearing uniform in playground

I work at a local primary school where I know a few parents who are dinner ladys i keep noticing they wear their uniform when dropping their own kids off and then they go home and then come back at lunchtime. Do you feel this is appropriate. Im not sure whether to mention it to our head

OP posts:

Why assume they smoke? Or do you you assume all people smoke or just people on low wages

It's so obviously OP lol, I cannot imagine any other person on this planet would assume showing off about being a lunch lady

MartinChuzzlewit · 26/09/2023 14:21

I completely understand not bringing outside germs on when you’re opening a body up, but I’m pretty sure our dinner ladies chain smoked whilst serving our baked bean rounders and we turned out fine

OK, I have to ask. What’s a baked bean rounder ?

EverythingYouDoIsaBalloon · 26/09/2023 14:27

🤣🤣🤣 brilliant. Is this you eating your words?

That's an odd take on what the yawn emoji means.

Did anyone else read this last sentence in a pirate voice?

There are very few comments that make me actually physically laugh out loud but this one did 😂😂😂😂😂

Pirates aren’t big on rules. Maybe that’s why @Sugargliderwombat was being so unkind to the totally reasonable OP who DEFINITELY isn’t an over-officious tattle…..

Rummykitten · 26/09/2023 14:29

Hang on, so the OP is also a dinner lady? She says it will be discussed “in our meeting” and “we’re not allowed to wear our uniform in the playground”.

EDIT: I think she’s actually non-uniformed member of support staff and therefore doesn’t stand out to other parents as somebody who works for the school / can be asked questions.

No she works in the school and knows a few parents who are dinner ladies.

She is almost certainly a cleaner.

Well here's an update! I mentioned it as its against our school rules that we don't wear uniform in the playground and infant the headteacher was very happy to receive the information and it will be spoken about in our next meeting

God OP is so proud of themselves for being such a twat 😂

Had this comment been spoken out loud they 100% would’ve ended it with their tongue out and a nur nur nur nur nur

Rummykitten · 26/09/2023 14:36

@tennine , totally makes sense. I think you’re right about her being a cleaner. Is she jealous that the dinner ladies attract more attention from other parents than she does…? (“How is little Johnny doing with his school dinners? Is he eating up his vegetables?”)

YabbaDabbaDooooo · 26/09/2023 14:36

My guess is the OP is a midday supervisor/dinner lady but the two she's grassed up are kitchen staff/cooks.

Hence her thinking they're 'showing' off! 🙈🙈

I feel very sorry for you. What a spiteful and vengeful person you are, determined to tear someone down over your own jealousy and insecurity. At least that dinner lady doesn't have to live with you, or be you. Karma will bite you on the arse over this.

fettuccini · 26/09/2023 14:37

You do know they don't just rock up at lunchtime and start dishing random bits of food out don't you OP? The food doesn't just magically appear or cook itself...

Alwayswonderedwhy · 26/09/2023 14:37

If they work in the kitchen they definitely shouldn't be wearing their uniforms out of school. If you're talking about midday supervisors it doesn't matter although I can't understand why they would wear it all day.

Buxtonwaters · 26/09/2023 14:37

😂

You're very literal aren't you.

Anyway, you're no fun any more. You started off as a lovely, fluffy bundle of joy and now you're as dry as a kipper with freezer burn.

Enjoy your day I'm sure it will be full of verve, laughter and the kind of radiance that make strangers smile. You glow, you really do.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 26/09/2023 14:45

Nothing spiteful about reopening kitchen staff due wearing uniform out of the kitchen. The school would fail a hygiene inspection for that.
The comment about showing off is odd though.

The spiteful part of that OP dit it because she thought they were showing off.

The Food Standards Agency disagrees with you - Safety Point 2

https://www.food.gov.uk/sites/default/files/media/document/personal-hygiene-fitness-to-work.pdf

The OP said they were going home, so presumably some form of transport/walking is involved and it calls into question what activities are carried out while wearing the uniform if not only wearing it in the food serving/prep area.

If other McDonalds workers are wearing uniform to/from work maybe their rules are more lax than our franchisee’s were, or they just haven’t been reprimanded.

That doesn't say they need to actually change clothes at work. Just they need to put on clean clothes for the day's work. That's all. Which they can do at home. Sorry but it doesn't say what you want it to say, and 'ideally' isn't an edict. Just a recommendation. But in reality no one has time to change at work, and no real bosses would want that time taken eating (pardon the pun) into the shift. Suggesting it is standard behaviour is just batshit crazy. And, it's why APRONS exist.

Fallingthroughclouds · 26/09/2023 14:49

I think maybe OP has something else going on. There is a serious lack of self awareness, nuance and failure to recognise other's irony. I also think she may have been name changing. This isn't someone who is going to see this from the other side or take on anyone else's point of view. Hopefully she hasn't really gone to the head (who if she has is 100% humouring her), because I think she is just ruining things for herself and it may be that she can't help it.

3luckystars · 26/09/2023 14:49

Yes I’m sure they are all delighted you brought such important information to their attention.

They really wouldn't I've spent many years working in kitchens.

😱 you have not lived!

Its like a scotch egg but instead of eggs it’s beans inside.

In hindsight probably not the most nutritional thing to serve up to children.

Our dinner ladies also used to serve us pink mash. I’m assuming they put food colouring in, and it wasn’t a result of bad hygiene and bleeding fingers 😂

BCBird · 26/09/2023 14:52

If nurses travel to work on the bus in their uniform why can't dinner ladies wear their uniform?

The nurses will be travelling home from work (or they should be!)

No they'll just be riding round all day showing off 👀🤣

FOTTFSOFTFOASM · 26/09/2023 14:56

Just when I get sick of MN, along comes an OP like this one to brighten up everyone's day.

'Showing off' is the highlight for me.
