School dinner ladys wearing uniform in playground

I work at a local primary school where I know a few parents who are dinner ladys i keep noticing they wear their uniform when dropping their own kids off and then they go home and then come back at lunchtime. Do you feel this is appropriate. Im not sure whether to mention it to our head

No they'll just be riding round all day showing off 👀🤣

And we were clapping for the CF's 🤣

rooinspace · 26/09/2023 14:56

Yes I agree with you on the meaning of ideally 🤣

My issue is, if staff are putting on clean clothes, and wearing them to do school drop off, going home, coming back to work (at the school they just dropped off at) that implies there is a sufficient passage of time to warrant going home (I wouldn’t go home for sake of 5 mins wait). So if someone has been wearing clean work clothes for say 2 hours at home/school drop off/ returning to work, I don’t think that’s clean enough to enter a kitchen and prepare food.

One of the self assessment checks on the link I previously shared relates to whether staff change at work. So FSA definitely thinks it’s important in prevention of food contamination.

It seems I have different food hygiene preferences than others, which is fine. It takes all sorts.

OP what time are you in?

I’ve never heard about not being allowed to wear your uniform in the playground and I’ve taught in plenty of schools.

Surely the entire reason for a uniform with the school logo on it is so the workers are proud to be a part of that school.

Everyone will know they work there so they don’t need to ‘show off’ anyway.

I’m also wondering what sort of school doesn’t allow uniform to be worn in the playground but allows staff to be on there phones multiple times a day.

Do you have to get changed once you get to work then?

D1nopawus · 26/09/2023 15:04

I assume they take off their school hoodies to cook no?

I think OP is meaning the kitchen staff dishing out the food, in which case YANBU. Grim.

Grim
Drink!

Poorlittlebug · 26/09/2023 15:16

How bitchy.

A working parent on a low paid job and you’ve just made her life harder by having to add outfit changes into her day.

And to insinuate that they are showing off as being the dinner ladies by showing up in uniform on school drop off is INSANE.

I completely understand not bringing outside germs on when you’re opening a body up, but I’m pretty sure our dinner ladies chain smoked whilst serving our baked bean rounders and we turned out fine

Why am I picturing the Lunch Lady Doris from The Simpsons?

tuvamoodyson · 26/09/2023 15:30

I’m a dinner lady AMA

ManateeFair · 26/09/2023 15:32

I just think is it showing off in the playground to other parents bringing them attention /questions

What the hell's going on in your brain that makes you think a dinner lady uniform is something a parent would wear to 'show off' or 'bring them attention/questions'? They're literally just wearing them for convenience, ffs. Get a grip.

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 26/09/2023 15:33

Rummykitten · 26/09/2023 14:29

Hang on, so the OP is also a dinner lady? She says it will be discussed “in our meeting” and “we’re not allowed to wear our uniform in the playground”.

EDIT: I think she’s actually non-uniformed member of support staff and therefore doesn’t stand out to other parents as somebody who works for the school / can be asked questions.

Edited

The type who wears her work lanyard in Tescos on a Saturday just in case she bumps into a school parent.

Can you spell 'ladies'?😂 OP works in a school...

Sunshinenrain · 26/09/2023 15:48

I agree that OP is a non uniformed member of staff and the other parents don’t realise that she is the one to suck up to as she’s so important.

Either that or she doesn’t actually work for the school but wants to and perhaps went for the lunchtime assistant position and didn’t get it.

JustPressRed · 26/09/2023 15:55

Just out of interest, what is your role at this school? I only ask because your spelling and grammar are a bit crap, so I do hope you're not in a teaching role.

Edited to remove spelling mistake 😂
