I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

Hello all, I feel very much like I went AWOL and have struggled to get back into a routine. Eldest dc with school issues became quite unwell and although not fully fixed yet is on the mend. Fingers crossed, half term next week so lots of rest, fresh air and low pressure should help.
The house has turned into a chaotic mess, I'm wfh today so every time I move from my desk I'm trying to put one thing away.
Hope everyone is well and keeping warm. I have missed the gentle support of this thread.

Peridot1 · 17/10/2023 11:37

Hello all.

@RunningKatie - that all sounds quite tough with your DC. I hope half term brings a lovely rest for you all.

@SpiritOfEdna - I’m at risk of the monthly gym payment going out and not using it! I find it very hard to get out the door if I’m not booked into something. I have one PT session a week. Would love three really but can’t afford that. And I did a Body Balance class (very badly) on Saturday and have booked two more. I need to get back into motivation mode.

I feel I’m being quite lazy at the moment so need to get back into doing something extra each day in the house. Plus exercise.

I should start with the ironing or it will be on my list forever more.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 17/10/2023 11:50

Morning all.

@RunningKatie I am so so sorry to hear of the awful time your DC (and you) are having. ❤I hope so much that the half term brings all the rest needed and is a tonic. Very best wishes.

Thanks @Peridot1 on your McTimoney chiropractor recommendation. We have a practice in my small village that has not really crossed my consciousness before so I will check it out!

I am definitely only on three cylinders @Thunderinglightly . After yesterday's school run efforts I have had an attack of raging apathy and am watching 'World War Weird' on tv and eating mini-magnums.

Hi to @SpiritOfEdna and @SingleThreadJoiner and everyone else i missed!

The afternoon school run is all I plan to manage today.

Hope everyone is well. xxx Thanks

petalpower · 17/10/2023 12:37

Lovely to have you back with us @RunningKatie . Sorry things have been tricky. I hope half term is just what’s needed.
I also have a monthly gym membership @SpiritOfEdna and @Peridot1 . I only set it up as it’s impossible to book onto the aqua fit class I love without it. It almost covers the cost of the weekly class so I justify it to myself because of this! I should have gone today but have picked up a horrible cold and am feeling rubbish so have decided to take it easy instead. My dad and stepmother (and their hairy dog!) have gone home this morning so I’ve done a bit of hoovering and tidying up but am not planning much else.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/10/2023 13:39

Morning all 😊
It's 5:30am and have been awake with 4 hrs sleep since 3:30am. Watching YouTube vids past hour or so.... am 7mos pregnant today, feeling very unmotivated/tired and lots to do here every day. Just catching up on posts here and feeling need to get back on track.
Still need to finish painting living room (easy, though as white on white and expect just one coat of paint needed). Haven't begun to sort storage closet yet. Also need to put some shelves up...which I must buy first. 😲

petalpower · 17/10/2023 17:26

I didn’t realise you were pregnant @Mumtobabyhavoc . Even more impressed with all your achievements! Make sure you’re getting time to rest and put your feet up too.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/10/2023 17:29

@petalpower 🩷 just started mentioning.
Had mc in Feb, so have kept quiet irl and here.

petalpower · 17/10/2023 17:40

Congratulations @Mumtobabyhavoc . An extra special pregnancy. Flowers

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/10/2023 18:32

@petalpower yes, and I think I am finally exhaling a little. 🤞

Thunderinglightly · 18/10/2023 06:48

Congratulations @Mumtobabyhavoc ! Our first project thread pregnancy, how lovely! Very best wishes for your good health and happiness 💐 I hope toddler Havoc gave you a better sleep last night!

I'm sorry things are tough for DC with school @RunningKatie I hope you have a peaceful half term.

@petalpower and @OrangePumpkinLobelia i hope you are both feeling better today!

@SpiritOfEdna the cheek of people offering silly numbers. 87p down? Pleased you stood your ground. Impressed as always by your achievements and all the best with the health kick!

@Peridot1 sometimes it's just the getting started, isn't it? I was doing well with my morning tai chi, and yet it's gone out the window since I left work which is ridiculous as I have more time.

@Aria999 👋 sounds like all go in your house too!

I think I've lost @SingleThreadJoiner and @autumnangel so I shall scroll back and see what you've both been up to! And hello to anyone else I've missed. There has been a lot to catch up on. I'm enjoying the combination of raging apathy attacks and posts that made me feel tired just reading them!

Hugs all round. Love this little corner of mumsnet ♥

Thunderinglightly · 18/10/2023 06:53

SingleThreadJoiner · 11/10/2023 11:19

Oof, the shift from 18 to 37 hours of work has been pretty brutal I have to say, completely failing to keep on top of anything more than the basics (e.g. laundry!). But yesterday I did drag myself out for a 45minute stretch class, because otherwise I feel like my body will fall apart - and I enjoyed it a lot though I doubt I'll be able to make it eevery single week! Today is meetings until 5.30, and tomorrow is a driving-to-actual-office day, so not much will be happening - but I absolutely HAVE to update the online grocery order or nothing will come on Friday morning 😜

Hope everyone's week is going well!

Ah....yes definitely tired reading your threads. I'm still getting my head round not working and have noted the truth in that saying about if you want something done, ask a busy person 🤪 It's lovely to have you here on our thread 😊

Thunderinglightly · 18/10/2023 07:11

I just saw you had covid @SpiritOfEdna I hope you and sibling have both made a full recovery!

Today is my first day in two weeks of not having mother responsibilities or commitments with other people. So I have plans to potter!

I have concluded that I have not retired, but am doing the Swedish thing of taking time out for a while so sort our home and life out (once and for all, she says hopefully) then back into the fray one way or another - possibly self employed.

Well, perhaps! A lot will depend on my mum's care needs. It's becoming increasingly apparent that even with professional carers, there are many things that only family members can do, even if it's just project managing. Despite working in the care industry for a lot of my working life, it's lurking on the Elderly Parents board that's really opened my eyes to what might lie ahead.

I am going to do a flylady home blessing today. I know it sounds twee but I find her methods soothing and helps me to reset a bit. I have also been looking at grot and cobwebs on the inside and outside of my kitchen windows so perhaps I will tackle those. And some appointments to book. Dammit that's starting to look like a to do list. Sigh!

Brb 👋

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 18/10/2023 07:15

Morning all.

Congratulations @Mumtobabyhavoc !!❤That is such wonderful news!!

Just seen the @Thunderinglightly has posted again so i will post then read then post!

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 18/10/2023 07:20

Back again,

There are loads of achievements on the thread and I have achieved none of them!

I very much like the idea of a Swedish time out @Thunderinglightly . I know from friends / family who retire there is a period of discombobulation of about 6 months or more though where everything feels 'odd'.

I hope things with your mum go well, and to everyone else as well who is juggling stresses with loved ones. Thanks.

I am hoping to be more functional today. I am going to try and make a really delicious meal for the family and sit at the dining room table tonight. We have slipped into the habit of eating in front of the tv lately.

Best wishes to everyone.

Peridot1 · 18/10/2023 08:45

Congratulations @Mumtobabyhavoc! How lovely. Am now even more impressed with your DIY skills and jobs.

I didn’t do much yesterday but then went into the office/study while DH was otherwise occupied and did some tidying and sorting in there. It’s been a bit of a nightmare room as DH is in there a lot and is quite untidy and it was also used as a dumping ground. But he tidied the floor space last week as the Sky engineer needed access so it’s a lot better. A bit of a way to go but it’s definitely getting there. I removed Imelda Marcos’s (AKA DH) shoe collection from behind a chair. He had about ten pairs in there.

Today’s jobs:

  • pre cleaners tidy round
  • PT session
  • washing
  • sort through boxes of pictures that were in study.
  • start a charity shop bag/box

I still need to get started on the ironing.

Have a great day all.

Thunderinglightly · 18/10/2023 10:21

@OrangePumpkinLobelia I think you meant that TL had posted yet again 😂 Your point about discombobulation is a good one. That is what i have been feeling! I hope you manage to get your lovely dinner on the table.

@Peridot1 I hear you! DH works from home and makes such a mess. He works in the dining room and in theory he could put his laptops away and free the dining room for it's proper purpose in the evening, but his clutter spreads so far that I tend to leave the room alone. He's tidy in the rest of the house but he's nearly 60 and apparently has always worked best amongst clutter and isn't keen to change now. He has not always worked from home though.
My to do list looks quite a lot like yours but I've deliberately left ironing off it!

SpiritOfEdna · 18/10/2023 13:04

congratulations @Mumtobabyhavoc how exciting !
Today;

  • finish the deck I am working on for work - have been faffing around with it for days - lots of thinking but not much down on paper...
  • make sure I logging cals/exercise on MyFitnessPal for the day
  • slosh a load of paint/varnish remover on the spare bed
  • pop to the gym to see if I can get a replacement fob from a previous PaYG membership
  • do 5K on exercise bike (!) that will need music
  • water the plants
  • menu plan for the next couple of days and plan to avoid wine on Friday evening
Very diet and health focussed😄, that's all for today, have a good day, SoE

Congratulations @Mumtobabyhavoc !

👋 @everyone!

Yesterday I lost the morning researching ways to give spending money to our overnight babysitter (prepaid cards etc) then decided after all just to hand her some cash. Our 'test run' weekend trip is at the start of November.

Then I folded 3 enormous baskets of laundry but very slowly because I was bored.

Am hoping to get together the motivation to look for more work soon. A few more days like yesterday should do it!

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 18/10/2023 15:40

@Aria999 folding laundry is one of my least favourite jobs (in fact I once did a deal with DH that he would fold laundry and I would do all the kitty litter trays.. I genuinely prefer the trays). So that is an achievement. Smile

I love your posts @Thunderinglightly Smile . We tend to be on the threads round about the same time early morning I think so i feel all is right with the world when you post. ❤

Love menu planning @SpiritOfEdna ! What do you have in mind?

Tonight I am making chicken with a creamy mushroom and smoked bacon sauce. It's a version of a Mary Berry monkfish recipe. I have tidied the dining room table. I have put halloween stuff around (lollipops, pumpkin shaped tea lights). DH is doing the school run and I confess I have opened a mini bottle of prosecco and am now sitting and watching the food network.

I am putting off calling the chiropractor. Blush I need to do it and not put it off.

I hope all is well and I am also very excited about your Daily Project baby @Mumtobabyhavoc !

Love to everyone Thanks

Thunderinglightly · 18/10/2023 16:58

Back again! Windows ✅ floors mopped ✅ bath clean ✅ appointments booked ✖ dinner prepped and ready to cook ✅
I've been on my feet all day and got a walk in too. Just sent poor DH out to walk the streets in the rain because left to his own devices he'd sit on his backside all day and I really love that man and would like him to exercise at least a little bit. In my defence I am running him a bath because it's wild and windy outside, and then I shall present him with dinner in front of tv (see previous post!)

That was a lovely thing you said to me @OrangePumpkinLobelia Your dinner sounds much more exotic than ours. I hope it is lovely!

I can lose time in exactly the same way @Aria999 ! And I sympathise with the folding of three loads of laundry! I have some just finishing in the tumble dryer so that's a job for later.

Hope none of you are drowneded or blown away. Quite stormy out and we're only on the edge of the Weather. Even our outdoor loving cat is asleep on my bed right now.

Thunderinglightly · 19/10/2023 08:14

Morning! Still wild and wet here. I'm just off to splash about in my wellies and then I have plans to give my kitchen a good scrub. Specific jobs are a clean behind the freezer and pull some stuff out of it to thaw for tomorrow.

Some years ago I came across a blog about zero waste and using literally all the food in the fridge so it was empty on the weekly shopping day. I try not to waste anything but bits and bobs often end up in the freezer.
I want to sort out my larder too. I like the notion of being able to survive on what's in it for a month or so, but it means regularly using bits from it so that we don't end up with the waste that anti 'stockpilers' would have you believe would arise. Local foodback does quite well out of my occasional sort outs too.
Have a lovely day all 💐

Peridot1 · 19/10/2023 09:13

Morning all.

You are sounding very productive @Thunderinglightly. And your DH sounds very accommodating. Mine would definitely not go for a walk just because I told him to!

@SpiritOfEdna - well done on the exercise. And the avoiding wine. I’m rubbish at that. Full of good intentions through the day and then as soon as DH says “would you like a glass of wine?” I find myself saying yes!

@Aria999 - I don’t mind folding laundry. I have a routine - do it in the kitchen stood at the island unit (so no bending) and I do it while DH is cooking usually. And I’m drinking wine!

@OrangePumpkinLobelia - have you booked the chiropractor? Your afternoon Prosecco while watching tv is goals indeed! Sounds very decadent!

I didn’t feel I got much done yesterday so need to do stuff today. I did my PT session, tidied the house, stripped a bed and went for a facial.

Today’s list:

  • wash bedding
  • figure out what I need to do to apply for new driving licence. It’s complicated as I can’t just apply on line as I have an Irish passport and have to send it away. Which annoys me as they’ve had it already two years ago when I changed the address on it. So I can’t see why that won’t do.
  • wash some windows
  • or do the ironing
  • go for a walk if the rain stops
  • or do some yoga
  • swap summer t-shirts and shorts drawer for jumpers

Have a great day all.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 19/10/2023 11:54

Hello all!

I have not booked the chiropracter. I really have to get off my butt on that. Blush

Out for lunch with DH today and if he can be persuaded to drive then I will continue the decadence with a glass of wine! I'm feeling alot better though.

Hope everyone is well and having a great day. Thanks

SingleThreadJoiner · 19/10/2023 11:54

I seem to be on a posting-every-other-day schedule at the moment! I have just finished the online shop so that's a big item off my list for the day... 😅

Lots of catching up to do - and lots of great inspiration as usual on this thread!

@RunningKatie , that sounds very challenging - roll on half term indeed, I do hope it brings a welcome break.

@Mumtobabyhavoc what excellent news!! I cant believe how much you have achieved while powering through a pregnancy.

@Thunderinglightly , I think I know where you are coming from with the elderly parents needs. My PIL took early retirement at 60 and hoped to do lots of fun traveling and enjoying life. It was well timed - not for the fun travel, but because they ended up spending several years managing the care of their parents, who lived into their 90s and were scattered around the country. It was very sobering.

Still, looking back at the week, I can be pleased about quite a few things in the end - I went swimming yesterday morning, and I intend to go to pilates tomorrow (I did a trial class last week and it was very enjoyable, so now I will sign up for the monthly membership - can do a very gentle stretching class as well so it seems a good deal!), the H has done useful shopping of things like advent calendars and Christmas presents, I got a 2024 family calendar already smug and oh my goodness I think I have become a dreaded-by-MN PTA mum....I went to a meeting on yuesday and voluneteered for things and what have I done?! 😱😱

This afternoon we are expecting the plumber with the spare part for the dishwasher, which has been out of action for almost four weeks. Please send positive thoughts our way, my husband will be devasted if it's still not fixed as he's been doing all the washing up, and we have guests both tomorrow night and for Sunday lunch!! So the main task to accomplish today is to clear the space in the kitchen for him to work.

Sorry for the megapost!

Aria999 · 19/10/2023 12:24

Hi all!

@Peridot1 normally I don't mind laundry folding but for some reason I was not in the zone! Possibly the sheer quantity of it!

Yesterday: cleaned a bathroom including the floor though I do worry my vacumop doesn't actually clean very well so possibly not actually cleaning the floor, just salving my floor related conscience.

Mended 1 pair DS trousers (2 knee patches), 1 DD t-shirt (after her moment of experimentation with scissors) and 1 DH t-shirt (it's probably on the way out but I tried)

Today:
Finish budget
Clean another bathroom
Look for work
