and anyone else who would like to join us, whatever your daily tasks are.

I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

Hello all.

Very busy thread over the weekend. I didn’t achieve much at all.

I did start dealing with the ironing basket by re-washing most of it. So ironing planned for today. Also started my brain dump list.

Our power went last night just after 8 due to the storm so we went to bed early. Although we were lucky and it came back after an hour or so. We survived unscathed but a big old willow tree has come down for some neighbours and done some damage to two houses apparently.

Today:

  • gym
  • kitchen
  • boxes to loft
  • strip spare bed and wash bedding
  • vacuum
  • Visa for Australia trip

Have a great day all.

Hope you are feeling better @RunningKatie

TawnyT · 22/01/2024 08:28

Oohhh.. my 9pm meeting has been cancelled 🙌 have 30 mins to kill now, coffee and a book it is 😌

FrostyFogg · 22/01/2024 13:43

Hello! Once again I lost a post this morning. Doh! 😳
And then I got busy.
I very much hope that all poorly children and adults are on the mend and getting a decent sleep!
Hugs to @petalpower I feel you- all mine have gone off travelling at some point. Mixed feelings aren't there? I hope she has a great time (and keeps in touch!)
Coffee and a book instead of 9am meeting...result! @TawnyT

That storm was a shocker wasn't it?

I am feeling extremely accomplished today 💪 Had a big old sort out, and managed to persuade DC that they don't need me to keep so much of their random crap in the loft. So there is room to walk about up there now. I have done a charity shop run and made it to tip. Dh is doing another tip run later as we are also emptying a shed.

I have made more soup, and there is a bolognaise sauce bubbling away as I write. AND the laundry is up to date, except that I rately iron anything, oh, and I cleaned the bath too.

Sitting in a slightly weary heap now, and then I'm off to meet a friend for a windy walk.

I hope you are all having a good start to the week :)

FrostyFogg · 23/01/2024 08:21

Morning! Now it's raining again!
Hope everyone is ok.
I have just got back from swimming 20 lengths at our local pool. Not swum for ages it seems. It was surprisingly busy there at 7am!
Today I have plans to sort out the clothes in my wardrobe. And if it stops raining, to clean the kitchen windows.

But first, coffee and breakfast.

Best wishes to you all!

TawnyT · 23/01/2024 08:30

Morning all! Yesterday was a bit of a right off for me, felt fine til lunch then came over all snotty and headachey and didn't really get much done at all. So my list today is the same as yesterday! Gym, make bolognaise, find sketchbook. Plus I need to do a final check of the finances spreadsheet before payday this week.

@FrostyFogg ironing is a rare thing in my house too. I think we have the iron out about once a month when DP needs a shirt fir work and that's it. Sounds like you had a v productive day - hope the windy walk was enjoyable :)

Hope everyone is having an OK week 🌟

WinterLobelia · 23/01/2024 11:36

Morning all.

Hope everyone is okay and those who are unwell are much better.

Windy and wet here today. I think we must be starting to be psychically meshed.... Bolognaise is on the agenda for us too @TawnyT and sorting out my closet was also put on my list this morning @FrostyFogg !!

Other than that I have a tip run and some life admin.

I also need to water all the indoor plants.

Have a great day everyone!

SpiritOfEdna · 23/01/2024 11:59

Morning, wet, windy, cold AND miserable here! I think I have a touch of January ennui - normally it hits earlier in the month but here we are. However: 2 days to payday, there is more light in the afternoon to walk the dog, I've read some good books this month and have a poem a day habit and I've definitely ramped up the exercise this month.
Today:

  • gym session - DONE
  • Dance Yourself Fit class tonight - last week was cancelled (sad not sad) but must go tonight as it was quite spendy
  • walk SpiritDoggo - geering myself up for that one at half 1.
  • need to prep for annual review feedback - it was all done ages ago, but need to have the formal discussion - I have taken up considerably more responsibilites since then so must be doing something right 😄
  • rescued the drill from the shed - a curtain pole needs fixing with more secure screws in there
I made another batch of the split pea soup which wasn't as good as the first, getting slightly obsessed as to what went wrong as second time I followed the recipe more faithfully :perfectionism. That's all for today, hoping all sniffles & snuffles are not too iritating, babies and children are recovering and very envious of those of us preparing for travel. Have a good day all, SoE

Hello and sympathy to everyone feeling poorly...D's cold/cough got me by Sunday evening and I was quite miserable overnight and yesterday, kept alternating bed and dragging myself to my desk for a couple of meetings. Better today thankfully, but still going through far more tissues than is ideal!!

Only achievement to speak of is that I made overnight oats for this morning's breakfast, and I emptied all the bins around the bedrooms and bathrooms this morning.

I hope noone has storm damage, we continue to avoid the worst but was talking to a colleague in Ireland this morning and it sounded pretty apocalyptic where they are.

Good luck everyone, and amazing stuff with the swimming @FrostyFogg - I had got into quite a good groove with doing that until November, and then I kept getting ill and lost it all.

Peridot1 · 23/01/2024 15:58

Hi all

Hope all poorly people are feeling better. So many people are poorly just now.

I didn’t manage everything on my list yesterday but did do half of the ironing! We don’t normally have much but for some reason quite a lot of my summer stuff requires ironing.

Didn’t do anything else on list though!

Feeling quite accomplished today however. Went to the gym this morning and did my first run of Couch to 5K, came back and we finally got the boxes of Christmas decorations up into the loft. Then I made a nice healthy bean and veggie bowl from my new cook book for lunch. Changed my bed, did a load of laundry and washed my bedding. Helped DS book his flight back to Dublin next week and did some more ironing. All that’s left is two table runners and some cotton napkins. Will do tomorrow.

I have now got split peas to make that soup @SpiritOfEdna. Will give it a try soon.

WinterLobelia · 23/01/2024 16:05

Sounds like you achieved loads @Peridot1 and @SpiritOfEdna !

I have sorted out my clothes and packed summer clothes away and put winter clothes in some sort of order in the wardrobe. I had no idea i had 3 navy blue shirts so that is something!

Putting off life admin.

Postponed tip run until tomorrow.

Changed DCs beds and washed bedding.

Cooked poached chicken for Dcats

Made spagetti Bolognese.

TawnyT · 23/01/2024 18:29

Success today - Bolognaise done, sketchbook found, doggo walked, waiting for class to start at the gym 💪

RunningKatie · 23/01/2024 19:58

I am envious of the spaghetti bolognaises being whipped up.
I've taken dc2 to the opticians and swimming, done the school uniform ironing.
Just about to cancel PT for tomorrow, with the best will in the world I'm not going to manage an arms session with the lurgy.
Last night I finished a book from my bedside table, whoop! Only another 8 to go. It must be time to go bookshopping again.

Aria999 · 23/01/2024 20:38

Hi @everyone !

Think I have a touch of the lurgy also; the brain fog seems worse than usual anyway!

Today if I can manage it;
Pick up medicine from chemist (waiting there now as I failed to do it for so long they put it back 😳)
Change sheets
Empty bathroom bins
Clean toilets

I also got an updated quote from my chosen company for clearing the scrub off the hill behind our house, which was 30% more than what they said this time last year. Outrageous! Getting other quotes now and wishing I had just done it in 2023!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/01/2024 21:13

SoE, another impressive list. 👏 I have never made split pea soup, but I love it. I would always get it when on the menu at uni. I really should learn to make it!
Tawney&Winter, both of you are on the same dinner path. Makes me think I should also make and freeze a sauce. ...💡
SingleThread, hope both you and dc are better soon. 💐

Havoc looks very drawn today. Am watching closely and not ruling out another trip to hosp if seems to get worse. Baby has mild cough.
Thankfully, I think I am a bit better.

WinterLobelia · 24/01/2024 08:07

Morning all.

Hope so much that Havoc and baby are both okay @Mumtobabyhavoc . Thanks

Hope also you feel alot better @Aria999

I have so far;
-made all the beds
-tidied the kitchen
-swept the kitchen floor
-put on a wash.

yesterday I started what I hope will become a habit of sweeping the kitchen floor after breakfast, lunch and dinner. We have a tiny kitchen for context but the tiles are white and show up everything. I usually do it once a day- more or less. So 3 times should make a difference. It seems to have done so far anyway.

Other than that I have to finalise some documents and sign our tax return and then return it to the accountants.

I am also making pea and ham soup.

Hope everyone has a good day.

TawnyT · 24/01/2024 09:01

Morning all. Feeling a bit rubbish again today (I think gym last night was pushing it, also DD was up in the night with a bad cough so v broken sleep)

So for today

  1. Get through the work day - 2 big meetings today with lots of talking to do on my part 😣
  2. Clean the kitchen
  3. Walk dog at lunchtime

Productive one for you so far @WinterLobelia! Hope baby and havoc are still doing ok @Mumtobabyhavoc

Have a good day all

FrostyFogg · 24/01/2024 11:40

Hi all! My day went sideways yesterday as my mum got herself in a pickle and needed paramedics. They would have quite liked to take her in, but she was adamant that she wasn't going, and she rallied well. Paramedics were amazing, and stayed till she was stable. Some sort of seizure it seems. Her carer called 999 then me. So I am very glad she has a morning call!

I was also very grateful to my past self for having some frozen meals in the freezer, and it's a good kick up the backside to continue to be prepared for the unexpected.

My sister in law had already arranged to see mother today, as brother is away, so I can relax about her today.

Sorry to hear about all the ongoing lurgies. Seems quite standard at the moment, especially when people have nursery/school aged children.

So today I will do my wardrobe as it didn't get done, and I am attempting to maintain the things that have been done.

Best wishes all round!

Peridot1 · 24/01/2024 12:33

Hope Havoc is ok @Mumtobabyhavoc. Just what you need with a newborn as well.

@FrostyFogg - hope your mum is ok. A seizure sounds quite worrying.

Hope everyone else’s lurgies heal. DH is still feeling the effects of being ill over Christmas. Still going to bed really early but not sleeping well due to coughing.

I have done the general tidy around for the cleaners this morning and been to the gym for my PT session. Have a wash on and have some bedding to do after that lot. This afternoon I’m going to finish the ironing finally and do my Australian visa application. Not planning much else.

Have a great day all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/01/2024 15:35

Good morning everyone ☺️
Thanks for the kind wishes for us. It's just 7:30am and I'm up with baby after close to 5 hours sleep (yea!) and baby seems well, just a bit congested, but content. Havoc is asleep after a late night. Cough seems to have lessened. Mine, too. 🤞
I'm sorry to read all the updates here of others under the weather, especially the kids who need us so much. 💐
Sending good thoughts to everyone. 🩷

Aria999 · 24/01/2024 17:12

Productive, @WinterLobelia ! You are making me have kitchen floor guilt (once every couple of weeks if it's lucky 😳)

How are you and havoc today @Mumtobabyhavoc?

Hope your mum is ok @FrostyFogg! Good luck with the wardrobe! I got into Marie Kondo a few years ago and was ruthless and as a result no longer have several items I would quite like to have kept 😢 now we have a massive house I just put it all in storage boxes.

@TawnyT sympathies on the night time coughing! DD's recent bout of it eased off after two nights, hopefully yours will be gone soon! Does your DD have a humidifier?

Got a result on the scrub clearing, the original guy has proposed a slightly different scope which is fine and close to the price he gave me last year.

petalpower · 24/01/2024 21:38

Oh no @FrostyFogg . I hope your mum is ok. That sounds really frightening.
Best wishes and healing thoughts to everyone with ill children. Lots of impressive productiveness too (is that a real word??).
I’m away from home for a few days visiting and helping dad and stepmother. Daily carers started at the beginning of the week and dad is not happy as he thinks he’s 100% healthy and needs no help. I am chief mediator for the next few days and in charge of pouring large alcoholic drinks for myself and stepmother! I won’t achieve much else until my return home but will be making a few lists and planning projects.

SingleThreadJoiner · 24/01/2024 22:40

thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc and I hope the cough continues to recede - and same to @TawnyT , we had a couple of pretty sleepless nights with the D, but it did resolve pretty quickly (unlike us poor parents, for whom it's really dragging on....)

Warm thoughts to @FrostyFogg and @petalpower with their parent concerns. It is a lot to manage, emotionally as well.

Trying to keep things ticking over - last night we changed the sheets, today I did two loads of laundry including some school uniform and then a cleaning cycle on the machine as it smelled a bit iffy; updated the online shop; bought some things online for D for upcoming half-term ski jaunt (woo!); and generally trying to do a bit of tidying here and there. We have guests over on Sunday afternoon who, despite having two toddlers and even busier jobs than me & H, have the most AMAZING immaculate elegant tidy home, and it would just be too mortifying to me if ours was in its normal feral state...

Sending health! And warm drinks! (with or without a tot of something, as desired...) ☕

Aria999 · 25/01/2024 01:10

@petalpower very important job pouring large alcoholic drinks!

@SingleThreadJoiner I hate your guests already, though it may just be that they tidy frantically before people come round just-- like normal people.-- Or they may be like my sister in law who is really really lovely but tidies perpetually and I just. Couldn't. Do it. She also prefers to put games away by slotting the pieces back into the original cardboard thing they came out of.

FrostyFogg · 25/01/2024 08:38

Good morning. Thank you for the good wishes for mum. Sending warm thoughts your way @petalpower I am not surprised you have hit the bottle. I would do the same if it were not for me living the closest, meaning I can be unexpectedly called on to drive there. If it's any consolation, she took a lot of convincing to have carers, but they seem to be the highlight of her day now.

More good wishes to those with germs. Poor old DH @Peridot1...that's really dragging out!

I have quite surprised myself by having the place here looking quite clean and orderly. I am pulling in little bits of inspiration from you folk. Kitchen floor has never looked better since I have started sweeping it with one of those flat mops with a washable head. It has an attached spray thing so sweep- pick up with dustpan- spray and mop. Tiny kitchen like @WinterLobelia but I seem to drop a lot when meal prepping, plus two cats coming in and out.

Continuing to declutter and really appreciating the extra space. It's really amazing what we've given house-room to over the years, just through lack of thought really. It feels good to be able to get at previously unreachable places and give them a good clean.

Today's tasks:
Clean behind fridge/freezer
Sort out one pantry shelf
Menu plan and shopping list

Just off phone to mum and she's ok and full of the chat she had with her favourite carer. I was going to take her out today but will see how she is when I get there.

Best wishes to you all!

Peridot1 · 25/01/2024 09:07

Morning all.

@petalpower - thank God for alcohol sometimes! Hope your dad accepts the carers soon. It’s not easy.

@SingleThreadJoiner - I bet your friend’s house isn’t always immaculate. I bet she runs around tidying madly before people come over too. We all do!

@FrostyFogg - yes his cough has dragged on. He wasn’t impressed when I told him there is a cough going around called the 100 day cough!

Yesterday I did my Aussie visa which has been issued already but didn’t finish the ironing. Will definitely do that today.

Other tasks today:

  • Book taxi for DS
  • book taxi for me
  • strip single spare bed and wash bedding
  • move trundle bed from one room to another
  • pack up charity stuff
  • order medication

Have a great day all.
