and anyone else who would like to join us, whatever your daily tasks are.

I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

Aria, ugh. Is it 49/50 nails? Sounds like a project I'd be saying, Why????? 😁
**

Thank you Winter. The steroid given this morning was quite miraculous. I'm so glad I didn't wait.

RunningKatie · 20/01/2024 08:04

WinterLobelia · 20/01/2024 06:29

@Aria999 I was going to suggest you drank all the wine then started over. Grin

Absolutely! Always available to help tidy up left over wine 🙂
@Mumtobabyhavoc - poor Havoc, that sounds rough, hope a good sleep helps.
I too am a bit dudious about the orange in a soup, but there are lots of recipes so it must be a thing. I will report back!
Sat am and I've got as far as boiling the kettle, it looks a cold one out, the local parkrun is cancelled due to ice on the course. Not that I was going to do it but it's in the park ddog goes to for his weekend walkies. I need to make a plan but first make tea. Have a peaceful weekend all.

WinterLobelia · 20/01/2024 08:41

Morning! Icy here as well. I am sure I have had carrot and orange soup @RunningKatie somewhere but its not quite popping up clearly in my memory.

DH has taken the Dcs swimming. I am watching a new youtube channel 'Tasting History with Max Miller'. He is explaining the origin of the Bath Bun. I'll have to get up properly at some point.

There were moves afoot to go and see Wonka at the cinema. But apparently it's a musical so our collective enthusiasm has slightly waned. But I do rather fancy the cinema followed by pizza somewhere.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day. Smile

FrostyFogg · 20/01/2024 09:45

Morning! Sorry to hear about the hospital trip @Mumtobabyhavoc Good call though by the sound of it. Hope Havoc feels better soon.
Stormy weather is coming in here. Still very cold but the wind is picking up earlier than my phone forecast predicted.

I've thoroughly hoovered the dining room, and wiped the windowsill and skirting boards. There is a unit in there that is full of junk that needs a home. I'd get rid of a lot of it but DH is more sentimental about it than I am. And all before 10am #proud 😁

Happy Saturday whatever you are doing 💐

Peridot1 · 20/01/2024 09:47

Morning all.

Hope Havoc is doing well now @Mumtobabyhavoc.

Impressed at you even attempting to put the wine rack together @Aria999. Not sure I would have the patience.

It’s still cold and frosty here too but no snow. It’s cold enough to make me want to just hibernate though.

I have been pottering really not achieving very much. DH is still feeling exhausted after having Covid over Christmas so isn’t trying to do anything much.

Today’s list:

  • dishwasher/kitchen
  • vacuum
  • order medication
  • supermarket shop
  • bring ironing basket downstairs (it’s a start!)
  • hopefully Christmas boxes to loft
  • brain dump list

Be interested in how the carrot and orange soup goes. I did a nice roast carrot dish at Christmas which had orange with it - I think it’s a pretty common pairing. Ihave also had carrot and apple soup in the past which was nice.

FrostyFogg · 20/01/2024 12:49

I would struggle with that kind of patience too @Peridot1 I have a hard time with instructions manuals as well. And pottering without achieving much is very familiar to me!
In theory i have the brain power, just not the patience. It's frustrating sometimes.

I have been making spicy parsnip soup which smells lovely.
To the carrot and orange soup, I raise you parsnip and apple. I think all these flavours mingle quite well!
I have plans to be more consistent with soup making as DH resorts to tinned every lunchtime if there isn't any fresh, and he's just had a dressing down at his well man check about his blood pressure and weight. So it's a mini change that hopefully will have small but positive consequences- especially we don't go mad on the tiger loaf bread, which is a bit too moreish!

I have booked hairdresser and theatre tickets this morning. Took minutes, and yet I have procrastinated on both for several days. And arranged two get togethers with friends.

A walk this afternoon I think, then I intend to turn my phone off and sit with my nose in a book as DH has volunteered to cook tonight.

Happy days 😊

Aria999 · 20/01/2024 13:15

Sorry @Mumtobabyhavoc I totally overlooked the part about the hospital trip! 😮 is havoc ok? Croup is scary!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/01/2024 20:23

Hello inspiring posters!
I made an easy chicken soup yesterday for dinner:
1 chicken thigh from freezer simmered in salted water with chopped onion until cooked then removed, chopped and returned to pot;
added quartered baby potatoes;
added diced zucchini and a few handfuls spinach when potato cooked.

Topped with croutons and cheese in bowls to serve.
Thanks for the ideas everyone!
Soup was exactly what I needed yesterday. 🩷

Havoc has improved. Not much appetite, but looking and sounding better.

petalpower · 20/01/2024 21:40

For someone who has given birth fairly recently @Mumtobabyhavoc you are doing really well. I hope you’ve got plenty of RL support with Havoc and the little one. Please look after yourself and don’t do too much. That sounds really scary having Havoc in hospital and unwell.
All this soup talk is making me hungry!
Today I’ve visited auntie at the nursing home, finalised attendance allowance paperwork for dad, built a lamp for the new room, walked Petaldog twice and made a bolognese for the freezer for DH and DD for when I’m away looking after the oldies. Now drinking wine and watching rubbish tv!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/01/2024 02:16

Thanks Petal. It's one foot in font of the other, isn't it? Sounds like you've accompished a lot today! 👏

WinterLobelia · 21/01/2024 07:41

Morning all!

Loads of things achieved for you @petalpower ! Well deserved wine and rubbish tv I think.

I love chicken soup @Mumtobabyhavoc . Mine is much more boring than yours- just onions, carrots, celery. chicken, chicken stock then with fusilli pasta thrown in. Actually- that might be on the agenda this week as it is almost the only dish I can guarantee will be eaten with something amounting to gusto by the younger members of the family. Might try it with cubed baby potatos today as i am newly diagnosed as coeliac. I have been using rice instead of pasta since then and topped with lemon and dill which is actually pretty amazing but i'm the only one who likes it like that in the family!

The tree surgeon turns up today to give us a quote. I only rang him Friday and he said; 'I'm a bit busy today- can I come by Sunday?'. I nearly fell off my chair with surprise!!

Other than that I have started knitting again. I am a terrible knitter - can only do one stitch and can only make scarves but I find it meditative. I am planning on knitting alot of squares and then putting them together as a kind of throw.

A walk and some coffee is hopefully on the agenda. Even better if it is with the DCs who tend to collapse at the weekends. We did not go to Wonka yesterday but we bought all the cinema-inspired snacks we could locate in Sainsburys and will watch a spiderman dvd today.

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/01/2024 08:06

Winter, you soup sounds really food, too! I like lemon and dill in chicken soup! Sorry about your celiac diagnosis. I had a lot of food sensitivities m and one true allergy that I, thankfully, grew out of. I was tested for celiac but luckily just a sensitivity and I am fine with pretty much everything now. I hope you are able to manage it. 🤞
I made another pot of chicken soup for dinner. I really like croutons and cheese melting on it.
(Thank god for lactose-free cheese! One thing that's not gone away completely for me is intolerance to lactose.)
I also made a banana bread with choc chips and pecans and got a load of laundry washed and hung up.
Still need to register baby. 🤦‍♀️🫣
I've been so tired that I just haven't been able to face sitting down at computer to register for everything (birth cert, medical card, social ins card, extended health care on my private insurance, ugh...). I need a bit of a kick in the rear and get it done!
Anyway.... time for bed now. Baby is back asleep and if I'm lucky I'll get a few hours before next feeding. 🥱🥱🥱

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/01/2024 08:53

And now I've cleaned the bathroom including the floor, door and door frame. These damn 2nd winds at midnight! 🤦‍♀️

SingleThreadJoiner · 21/01/2024 10:11

Good morning, hope everyone is having a good weekend and maybe thawing out...though I think we in East Anglia are actually more or less the only part of the country that's due to escape the horrible weather...thanks for the suggestion of the pads for the bed, that's a really good idea - need to get hold of some! It all went a bit out the window at the end of the week as D was ill in the night between Thursday and Friday and had to stay off school on Friday, so very little was achieved work-wise. But she actually rallied quite quickly and we did do some nice things on Friday including massive amounts of banana bread and muffins, rescuing half a kg of ancient bananas! Very pleasing, and delicious result too. I have been living vicariously through your achievements 😄Though we did go to a birthday party yesterday (and stayed an extra hour at the end to help clear up as it was close friends who were also juggling three children including a baby) and we are heading out soon to a local NT place to meet up with a schoolfriend of D's and his family.

@TawnyT thanks for the moral support and the suggestion!

@Mumtobabyhavoc glad to hear Havoc is better, and that you were able to have him seen so quickly. Hope the baby stays clear of it!

@WinterLobelia I am so impressed with your tree surgeon!! I have been putting off calling one for MONTHS but now I feel inspired and I wonder if your good luck will transfer on to me....

Take care everyone!

petalpower · 21/01/2024 11:02

I’m really not looking forward to DD going travelling @Mumtobabyhavoc but it will be a fabulous adventure for her. It’s not often in life you get the chance to do something like this. She will be away for several months.

TawnyT · 21/01/2024 11:15

Morning all! Sounds like everyone's having productive weekends! Glad baby havoc is on the mend @Mumtobabyhavoc Hope you've managed to chill a little in between all the baking and soup making and housework, you're unstoppable 😅

Yesterday I finally managed to set up my etsy account for getting some artwork sold, now to actually get the art listed... we also had a lovely walk with DD and doggo, something I really want to do more of now that DD is good at walking and doesn't insist on being carried every few minutes. Will try get out again if/when the rain stops this afternoon.

This morning I have cleaned the bathroom and just about to start on the kitchen.

And I feel inspired by all the baking and soup making so I'm planning making chocolate muffins with DD this afternoon.

WinterLobelia · 21/01/2024 13:25

Afternoon everyone.

The wind is starting to rise here and so we are all inside and unlikely to go for a walk. It's already quite unpleasant.

Tree surgeon came, seemed to know what he was doing and quoted 75% of what we expected. He's booked for his first available date in February which will be in about 3 weeks.

Some tossers have fly tipped (filled) dog poo bags and a computer and computer cables over our fence. It's not the first time so DH is ordering CTV. i have booked a tip run for tomorrow. I am very cross about it. But thankfully the tip is on the way to school so it's not a major endeavour.

I am spending the afternoon washing and ironing and prepping the school uniforms for the week. In front of netflix.

Dinner is easy. Chicken salad wraps for the DCs with wedges and sweet corn. I will save the chicken soup for another day.

I was also inspired by the baking talk and bought a chocolate cake mix! I ought to make my own, but baking is one thing I just cannot get the hang of. I am going to put some frozen raspberries in the batter though to up the nurtrients!

WinterLobelia · 21/01/2024 13:26

Good luck on your etsy art account @TawnyT !

Aria999 · 21/01/2024 13:39

Wow @WinterLobelia amazing tree surgeon! What's the catch?!

Glad havoc is getting better @Mumtobabyhavoc . DD has kept me up two hours with her cough the last two nights but I don't think it's dangerous (she's breathing fine, just can't sleep). Last night we finally both got back to sleep after I gave her in succession a humidifier top-up, cough med, Vicks, Tylenol (calpol), antihistamine, and an extra pillow...

Good luck on Etsy @TawnyT !

@SingleThreadJoiner we had a birthday party yesterday too! For DS turning 8. It was at his Kung funeral studio and they were brilliant, the teachers did almost all the controlling of 8 year olds full of sugar, but I am still exhausted! I also did a lot of snow shoveling yesterday morning.

I also need to book a hair appointment @FrostyFogg , thanks for the reminder! Not sure when I will be able to fit it in though!

Need to get out of bed and get going. Taking the kids to the aviary this morning with a mom friend.

Aria999 · 21/01/2024 13:40

lol Kung fu not kung funeral. Auto correct can be very weird!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/01/2024 13:58

Winter, I'm sure the choc-raspberry cake will be delish! 😛 How infuriating that people are dumping garbage on your property. 🤬🤬🤬
Tawny, oh, no... am very stoppable... hence joining this thread to be (feel!) productive. 😁
That's quite a milestone for your dc to be able to walk with you. ☺️
Petal, you both will be ok. 🩷🩷🩷 Growing up and becoming independent is bittersweet for mums to witness.

Just gave Havoc some Tylenol for fever. Woke up very hot/sweating and with a soaked and leaking diaper. So, got dc washed up and changed, sheets in the wash, made up bed and got Havoc settled. Have got a cough myself now. Baby seems okay so far.
Back to bed shortly.

RunningKatie · 21/01/2024 15:52

Afternoon all, am reporting in from the sofa, am feeling rubbish and quite sorry for myself. All my plans for the day aren't happening, I started with much enthusiasm and realised I actually feel shocking. I really need to be in the office tomorrow so have flopped in a heap hoping this will fix me.
Wind is picking up here too, one of my jobs had been to clear up the loose stuff in the garden, just hope it doesn't all take off!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/01/2024 23:36

Oh, Katie, I hope you feel better! Get a good sleep tonight and stay hydrated. 💐

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/01/2024 04:59

Have washed a load of towels, made another pot of soup, changed another bed and washed those sheets and steam mopped floors, area rugs, bedroom and closet doors. Have also watched the Barbie movie (during dinner and while baby was cluster feeding over two hours...ugh) and am now watching last half of The Matrix. Havoc had a late nap, so is wide awake. 🤦‍♀️ I just want a bath...

TawnyT · 22/01/2024 08:26

Morning all. Hope everyones week is off to a good start 🤗

I made scones yesterday, and managed to keep the kitchen clean, cleaned the bathroom, read a chapter of my book, listened to a podcast, and did a little bit of drawing. Plus lots of play time with DD. No walk because the rain did NOT stop.
Today I have managed to get DD to nursery for the 8pm drop off so I cam start work as early as possible because my day starts with a 9pm meeting (who does that on a Monday?! 🙈) that I feel terribly unprepared for..

Jobs today

  • make big pot of bolagnaise for the week (will become spaghetti bol, lasagne, and chilli).
  • do workout at lunchtime
  • find new sketchbook (hidden somewhere in storage boxes..)

Hope you're feeling a little better and ready for the office today @RunningKatie
