and anyone else who would like to join us, whatever your daily tasks are.

I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

Good morning all! How is the ankle today @Peridot1 ? I'm pleased that the ice helped to prevent bruising.
Hello @TawnyT good to see you back! Every now and again I decide I'm MN ing too much and delete my account. Then I come back with a new name....wondered if you had done the same! I just can't keep away, due to this thread mainly!

Best wishes with the coat sleeve @SpiritOfEdna That would be way beyond my capabilities!

I am settling into normal as finally it's just me and DH at home. DD has found herself a little flat that she can afford, and it's nearby which is lovely! Today involves helping her move some of her bits out, putting some in our loft, and making a start on what has been her room.

I did get round to doing 10mins in each room yesterday and there is a noticeable difference so I am happy about that.

I'm getting back into doing a twice daily 'boiling the kettle' job. So far I have run a an antibacterial wipe over all the light switches. Next up will be the banister rails I think.

I have managed a brain dump daily for three days straight, and read a chapter of a novel too, which is all helping with anxiety and focus.

I dropped this link on another thread, but as you folk have talked about lists and journalling, I thought it might be of interest here: https://littlecoffeefox.com/morning-pages-changed-life/

FrostyFogg · 17/01/2024 08:57

Accidentally posted too soon. Have a great day everybody 😊 💐

RunningKatie · 17/01/2024 09:18

Morning all, been to the gym this morning, had to defrost the inside of the windscreen which was unexpected! I saw 2 snowflakes yesterday so a bit underwhelmed by that.
Today's plan is wfh, and also put a dark wash on, sort my birthday out, book train tickets, and tidy up the kitchen.
Also keep checking Rightmove as a neighbours house has a for sale board, they've lived there less than a year so am wondering if they have done it up to sell on. Such a shame as our friends also wanted it but were gazumped.
Good luck with the moving @FrostyFogg - we're a good few years off small people leaving home, I hope to keep them nearby too.

WinterLobelia · 17/01/2024 09:25

Morning all.

Best wishes to all.

Not sure what I will achieve today- feeling awfully low for no discernible reason.

On the 10 min blitz- another technique I like if I am sitting of an evening watching tv is to get up in the ad breaks and work on a room. It makes a surprising amount of difference!

Thanks to everyone.

TawnyT · 17/01/2024 10:09

Morning all! Managed desk clear, gym, and a 10 min blitz in the spare room yesterday 🎉

I have lots to get done at work today so going to try get some focused work in 30 mins at a time with some little breaks. Maybe doing a few quick cleaning blitzs on my breaks 🤔

Will walk the dog at lunchtime.

Also the kitchen is looking a bit grim so will tackle that this morning.

@WinterLobelia no achievements required on low days! Just look after yourself 🌟

Have a good day everyone!

WinterLobelia · 17/01/2024 10:16

Thanks @TawnyT

SpiritOfEdna · 17/01/2024 13:31

Morning, busy work day today, but I've got a pile of mail in front of me that I am going to blitz (and find the CC from yesterday's list)
Today

  • blitz the mail pile
  • tidy my work desk
  • check on my drying coat (I picked the wrong time to start altering a wool coat 😄)
  • go to gym tonight (another one here for C25K)
That's all for today - a skimpy list! Have a good day all, SoE

Hello all.

Ankle is doing well. Survived a trip to the gym this morning too.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - cleaning hairbrushes is a very satisfying task!

@WinterLobelia - January can be low mood inducing for sure. Do something nice for you.

@SpiritOfEdna - am very impressed with you remaking a coat.

Today is general tidy up for the cleaners day. That’s all done. Washing is on. Stripped a bed and have that bedding to wash also.

Going for a Hydra Facial shortly so won’t achieve much more today!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/01/2024 05:37

Glad you are on the mend, Peridot! ☺️

Christmas tree taken down and just need to drag it down to the curb for city pick-up.
Left a string of white lights on the deck railing, though. 😍
Changed a bed and washed sheets.
Vacuumed.
Swept the deck.
Played in the snow with Havoc.
Made a sort of lasagna but with penne for dinner. 😛
Changed about a dozen diapers for baby and about 6 for Havoc. 🥱
Had a large piece of carrot cake for dessert. 😋😋😋

FrostyFogg · 18/01/2024 08:04

Morning all! @WinterLobelia are you aware of blue monday? Apparently the third monday of January is officially the most depressing day of the year. I'm sorry you're feeling a bit blah, and very much hope that you start feeling better as the days get longer 💐

The DD move went smoothly, thank you @RunningKatie We were just a pit stop, so it wasn't a big move. I am glad she's nearby though! Ds is the only one at a distance now and I am very grateful for modern communication systems and our proximity to the airport!

Fun in the snow with a toddler sounds amazing @Mumtobabyhavoc The nappies less so. There is a 20 month gap between my two eldest so I feel your pain!

I love seeing lights still up, to brighten this otherwise dreary month! On the brighter days i do love getting to see some beautiful sunrises and sunsets too 😍

👋 everyone else ☕ 🍪 (does feel like we're sitting and chatting in a café)

Today I will:

Book routine vet appt for cats
Sort spare room so it's ready for the next visit.
Take a bag of stuff to charity shop.
Have a rummage in the freezer and come up with something interesting for dinner.
Take mum to meet some friends for coffee. I will leave her with them while I do a couple of errands and pick up her shopping.

Stay warm everyone 💕

TawnyT · 18/01/2024 09:19

Oh I'm jealous of those with snow. We're at -7°c this morning so it's bloody freezing but no snow in sight. Getting mentally preppared for de-icing the car for the nursery run in a minute. Although we're having one of those awkward mornings where the answer to everything (let's get dressed, brush your teeth, which jumper would you like) is invariably 'No!', so it might be a while before we actually make it out the door. Typing this while she takes an age to peel her own orange because god forbid I offer any assistance #toddlerlife 😅

@Mumtobabyhavoc I don't envy you those nappies, potty training was a success for us over Xmas so no more nappies for us for now (we are trying for another though so the nappy respite nay be short lived!)

@WinterLobelia hope you took it easy yesterday! How are you feeling today?

I've ready cleared the kitchen and aiming to get the living room sorted at lunch as well as walk doggo. And gym booked for tonight 💪

Have a good day everyone ❄️

WinterLobelia · 18/01/2024 09:56

Morning all.

Thanks so much everyone- I am feeling better today. DH did the school run in the afternoon so I could engage in 'self care' [coffee and cake] and it was fish and chips from the takeaway for dinner in order to just step off the pedal for a few hours. I definitely think I have some January blues. Yesterday I felt so hopeless as if there is nothing good to look forward to. It's still there but lessened today. It's -5 Celsius here- but also no snow in sight!!

Loving the stories of snow toddlers and orange peeling toddlers! I miss those days. (Well, maybe not the tantrums!! )

So glad the move went well for your DD @FrostyFogg

Glad your foot is better @Peridot1

Hope everyone is well.

Not much planned for today I think. I need to blitz a few rooms so might just focus on one. Possibly what is meant to be the study but is actually the ironing dumping room.

very best wishes to everyone. It does feel like chatting in a cafe you are right @Mumtobabyhavoc !

SingleThreadJoiner · 18/01/2024 10:42

Hello everyone, what a busy week everyone seems to be having! @Peridot1 great to know that your ankle is already getting better, and I love the fact that this thread covers everyone from babies and toddlers to DCs leaving home and everything in between! 💕

Main achievements here have been on the work front, so very little leftover for the house, though I did do a 10 minute laundry-putting-away blitz just now which was very satisfying. And sorting out a birthday present for a party we are going to at the weekend.

We have finally bit the bullet and started night-potty-training (which we had been putting off basically because we couldn't be bothered) and the first few days have gone really well, but last night there were two accidents, mainly because she's coming down with cold/cough I think. So lots of extra laundry for me this morning 😬

As well as the winter blues, I've been wondering a lot about how mood varies at the different times of the month with hormones and reading around about mood disorders/anxiety/depression linked to menstrual cycle - it's been really illuminating and putting a lot of things into perspective.

Sending hugs and sunshine ☀

Peridot1 · 18/01/2024 11:17

Morning all. Really cold here too. -5 first thing but no snow.

I would really like to be able to meet you all for a coffee and some cake somewhere!

@SingleThreadJoiner good luck with the night training. I bought a pack of Pampers training pads for the bed which were good at meaning less laundry. Not sure if they still do them - it was about 20 years ago! They seemed expensive at the time but I only ended up using half a packet I think.

Glad you are feeling a bit brighter @WinterLobelia. Fish and chips for dinner would definitely cheer me up!

I had a bit of a sleep in this morning as woke in the night the last two nights and couldn’t get back to sleep so was feeling a bit sleep deprived. So this morning I got up at 7.30 to feed the dog and then went back to bed. Feeling better for it.

Not sure what to get done today. Will have a ponder. Supposed to be starting Couch to 5K…..

washing machine is on. Might try to get the Christmas boxes up into the loft.

Have a great day all.

petalpower · 18/01/2024 16:05

Just sitting here waiting for my daughter who is having her travel vaccinations for backpacking round Australia and SE Asia and am just catching up on everything you’ve all been up to. Managed to spend £30 in Boots on not very much (why is everything so expensive??) and topped up on birthday/sympathy/good luck cards in M and S. I uploaded lots of photos from my phone to Photobox the other day. They’ve all arrived now so before I came out I started putting them into the right albums. Also printed some new ones for auntie to update the ones in her room.
Very cold here too. Minus 5 when I took Petaldog out this morning but no snow.
It definitely feels like a coffee and cake chat here - lovely!

SpiritOfEdna · 19/01/2024 10:05

Morning all, we had a bit more snow here last night which has turned to ice this morning so its a bit slippy out there - I had to do an early morning dash for the coffee I had run out of (the horror!) Got one in front of me now though (no cake sadly 😄)
I've managed to acquire some new projects to manage over the course of yesterday so today will be busy organising the beginning of those. No five minute dashes to the ironing board and worktops and it's Friday. I was hoping for a less busy day.
Today:

  • gym tonight, 2nd C25K run.
  • I managed to find the CC in the post pile, so some financial planning later - DONE couldnt resist as it went on the list.
  • Need to change some curtains from eyelet to pencil pleat - that will keep me occupied on a Friday night when I am doing DryJan.
  • I've got a pile of books that were going to the recycle bit at the tip, but decided to drop off at the community bookcase at Tescos will do that later
That will be it for today, have a good day all, SoE.

Happy Friday all! Today is my day off with the little one. A friend cancelled our coffee date this morning which I was kind of pleased about as I'm so skint after Christmas - roll on pay day! So we're having a day at home instead, we'll probably wrap up warm and go for a little walk later (still no snow here but its still frosty so its beautiful out!), but for now it's playtime interspersed with some housework when she let's me!

I've managed the kitchen already & need to do a tidy in the living room, a quick bathroom clean.

Planning on getting sone life admin done at naptime. Our finances sheet needs updating, and I need to set up an Etsy to sell some art I've been doing.

@SpiritOfEdna I have a huge pile of books to sort through too, keep putting it off, I find them so hard to give away. But we just don't have the space for my collection and in reality I have about 30 new books that I'm yet to read so I don't know why I think I'll ever get round to re-reading any others...

And yes @SingleThreadJoiner to the thoughts on hormones and mood, I've been chatting about this alot with friends and family recently, many are trying different methods to manage their cycle and I find it so interesting, my mum is using intermittent fasting and acupuncture and another friend swears by cryotherapy. Personally I've been taking ginsing and lions mane to good effect, it seems to lift the brain fog that I get at certain times of the month and level out some of the pms and insomnia I get before my period. Trying hard to track my symptoms so I can get to grips with when my good and bad days are and plan my life accordingly...

FrostyFogg · 19/01/2024 14:17

Hello! No snow here but I managed to spill some water on the drive which froze immediately. Don't have any proper grit but had a tub of table salt in the cupboard so I threw a bit of that about.

I've done a really thorough hoover today and made some soup. Dinner in slow cooker. Also a bit more decluttering, and the bags are in the boot of the car so feeling quite accomplished!

And it's Friday already!

WinterLobelia · 19/01/2024 16:22

Afternoon!! No snow here either sadly! Sitting waiting for the DCs to get out of school. Was quite an icy drive today!

not much done today but I booked a tree surgeon for a quote and did some banking. I also successfully cleaned and tidied as I went along which is unusual for me.

hope everyone has a great Friday!!

RunningKatie · 19/01/2024 19:39

Evening everyone, it's been a busy old week here. DC2 now has a streaming cold so I'm planning a quiet weekend.

Yesterdays achievement was buying train tickets for next months trip to London. Today I've generally just hung on at work and got through. Tomorrow I'm going to buy sheets for the new bed and ingredients to make carrot and orange soup. Found a recipe that doesn't look tricky so going to make a batch for healthy lunches.

Aria999 · 19/01/2024 20:28

Lots of snow here. DS school is closed.

I was working but ran out of useful things to do so I put the new wine rack together. I don't think I did a great job, one of the metal bits is sticking out at the front no matter what I do!

However the old wine rack disintegrated in the beginnings of a shower of falling bottles as I took them all out, so probably a good thing it's no longer in use!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/01/2024 21:07

Petal, sounds like your DD has a good adventure planned! How are you feeling about it?
SoE, another amazing list! I should google the terms you used re the curtains... it does sound very ambitious!
Tawny, I need a good kitchen clean, too. It's the counter that needs sorting and a deep clean.
Frosty & Katie, I really have been lazy re making soup! It's so easy and nutritious, too.
I live a good bowl on these cold days.
Katie, carrot-orange soup? Haven't heard of that combo! Please report back! 😁
Aria, is it worth taking the wine rack apart and starting over?

Managed a load of laundry washed and hung up this morning at 7:30am, but that's likely all I'll manage today. I've got a sick toddler and we went to hospital overnight. Luckily it wasn't busy and round-trip was two hours. Havoc has croup and rsv, so we're cuddled in bed and I'm hoping to get some more sleep. 🤞

Aria999 · 20/01/2024 04:29

@Mumtobabyhavoc alas no, 49 nails later I am not sure if I could if I wanted to!

It doesn't look too bad now the wine is in it.

WinterLobelia · 20/01/2024 06:29

@Aria999 I was going to suggest you drank all the wine then started over. Grin

WinterLobelia · 20/01/2024 06:30

@Mumtobabyhavoc how frightening to have a hospital trip. Hope so much that Havoc is better soon and all is well with you all. Thanks
