Whether it’s personal or well known, which unsolved case makes your brain sound like dial up?

Kate Bushell - teenage girl killed by a knife wound to the neck whilst walking a dog. 26 years later and still no one caught.

Corrie Mckeague - military man disappears into a dead end road, by some wheelie bins, never seen again. They believe the climbed in a bin and then was killed when the bin was emptied into the rubbish truck the next day, however no body has ever been found and there is no proof he even went into the bin. He just vanished.

Richey Edwards - where is he? What happened? I like to believe he is out there somewhere happy and living his best life. Sadly I think he went into the Severn and is dead.

For some reason, the case of Martin Allen is one I can't forget. He was 15 when he disappeared from Kings Cross station on Bonfire Night in 1979.
A witness saw what looked like his abduction. He was obviously scared, in the company of a man who told him not to run.
He was never found and his abduction has been linked to paedophile ring activity.

Although it's now known what happened to Mark Tildesley, not all the perpetrators went on trial and his body has never been found.

It’s a bit off topic, because I think this was probably solved, but it’s stayed with me although I can’t remember the girl’s name.

She was young, maybe around 10-12 and was stabbed close to her home (England I think, definitely U.K.), and thankfully survived. I can vividly remember her (dark hair, freckles, big eyes) at a press conference/interview, smiling broadly and I remember worrying about whether it was OK for her to be being exposed to publicity. I think the purpose was to find witnesses and identify the attacker.

It was definitely not Josie Russell. This girl has been alone when attacked. I am guessing it was mid 1990s, but I could be a little off.

Sounds like Abigail Witchell but she was older, early 20s or so.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/09/2023 14:12

Johnny Gosch. Who went missing in 1982. I wonder did he visit his mum 15 years later or did she imagine the whole thing.

Those who like a mystery would enjoy "And the Sea Will Tell" by Vincent Bugliosi.

Wealthy couple on distant Pacific Island are murdered & their yacht stolen by grifters.

Jordan Ratcliffe. I've always wondered what happened to him

2B2G · 03/09/2023 14:15

Martin Joyce is a complete mystery

No that’s not her. She was definitely a minor and I think it was earlier than that case too.

The disappearance of Lee Boxell was pretty close to home for me.

Riverlee · 03/09/2023 14:22

Litvinenko, the Russian’s spy poisoning. I know they’ve concluded it was Russia, but this shocked me because it was straight out of James Bond, and how did the hospitals conclude he’d been poisoned so quickly. Those sort of cases don’t belong to modern life, only in films.

Also, the Salisbury poisonings, another Russian -linked incidence, and very James Bond-esque.

Ben Needham - grew up with that and the various sightings. It was the highest profile missing child case until MM.Always hoped there would be a conclusion to the case.

Always felt a bit sorry for missing child parents who must have seen the hundreds of thousands of pounds poured into the MM case, and their case didn’t get the same input. Why did MM get so much time and money invested year after year?

I think it's accepted now that Richey likely jumped off the bridge. His car was found in the services car park shortly after. ☹️

iloveeverykindofcat · 03/09/2023 14:31

Yes, poor Richey is more a tragedy than a mystery. I'm from very near where he was and a huge Manics fan, I've looked into this a lot over the years. There's a lot of circumstantial evidence that he jumped. A taxi driver reported that at around the time we can trace his movements to the Severn Bridge area, he picked up a "young man, about 5"7, very thin, with dark curly hair and eyes" who spoke with a "Welsh accent that occasionally slipped into Scottish". The young man asked him to drive him around several places near where Richey grew up, then let him out relatively near the bridge, at which point he overpaid, hugely, and told the driver to keep the change.

I admit its crossed my mind why the driver didn't call someone, but I guess this was before the days of mobiles/home internet etc and he probably had other calls.

Charlene Downes. The groomed girl from Blackpool who apparently was murdered for planning to out the men who were abusing her and countless other under age girls. A secret recording was released of the men saying she’d been killed and used as kebab meat. This story has haunted me for years and I often wonder what really happened to the poor girl. She came from a terrible background too.

SecretShambles · 03/09/2023 14:36

Scary in a woo way

The ghost of the A23 crash...

One day a number of people saw a car come off the msin road down an embankment and called the police, who made a search of the area.

They DID find a car which had crashed. But it had crashed several months ago and contained a badly decomposed body of a man who had been reported missing by his family.

He had crashed alone unseen into deep undergrowth and died. When he died it was summer and the undergrowth was dense whereas when it was reported it was winter and easier to see what was in the dense bushes

His ghost came back to crash again and let his family know what had happened to him?

The case of beautiful darling Noah Donohoe will haunt me until the day I die. I pray for his mother every morning and night.

The absolutely horrific Clydach Murders - not an unsolved mystery as such as David George Morris was convicted of the murders not once but twice - however there is so much about the case that doesn't add up and there are a huge amount of people especially Swansea locals who do not believe he was guilty.

If it was a book or film or tv series you'd honestly think it was far-fetched.... also to be taken into account is that South Wales Police are the most corrupt force in the UK.

Who REALLY murdered married WPC's lesbian lover?

The Mail on Sunday can reveal extraordinary new evidence which casts grave doubt on David Morris's conviction for the murder of Mandy Power (pictured) and her family in 1999.

HolyHellaciousHeck · 03/09/2023 14:53

I don't think Charlene Downes was necessarily killed by the kebab shop men. The 'recording' of their confession was incredibly indistinct. It was like if someone mumbled 'my son's name is Barry' across a room while eating crisps and the police confidently transcribed 'I must buy a parrot' and then expected the court to agree that was objectively what was stated.

Charlene and her siblings were mired in child sex abuse from the start. Horrible men were around them at all times. Paedophiles often lodged in her family home. Other kids in her family had made disclosures of being abused. Social services were involved with the family for years but didn't keep the children safe. Charlene routinely stayed out late, sometimes for days, and was part of a crowd of groomed girls who traded sex for cigarettes, food and cash.

It may be that the kebab shop men killed her but sadly they were just two of the many, many bad men she had lived her life around. Charlene's parents did nothing to keep her safe and plenty to put her in harm's way.

Why the F did I read this thread! That’s what I can’t figure out.

Even after reading that scary story about the woods years ago and frightening the bejaysus out of myself then, I did the exact same thing last night and was awake and freaking out in the middle of the night! I haven’t had a nightmare in years!

Why would I do that???

There was something along the lines she didn't have official documents which made travel, jobs etc difficult. She did also say that she disappeared well before social media, CCTV everywhere etc which made it easier for her to stay off the radar. She also didn't tell her husband who she really was.

Can anyone give me a link or a phrase I can search to find that thread. I remember it well but can't seem to find it.

@UlezSchmulez

There was DNA run recently and a man and women were taken in for questioning. The locals have the story that they were the babys parents. They're married with other children now. It was the mothers father who did it because they were young and unmarried at the time. He was a guard apparently.

Too many pages to read to see if you have been corrected already! It was not the mother's father, who was a garda, that did it as he died some years before the baby was born. The parents have been confirmed, they do have other children but are not married, however nothing further has been confirmed or clarified.

Deborah Linsley

She was murdered in a train compartment in the middle of the day. Whoever did it would have been covered in blood at a busy London station but the killer has never been found.

There was no other access to those compartments other than the side doors. The killer could have had a change of clothes in a bag or suitcase and been spotless when they left the train.

Claudia Lawrence. I remember a journalist who covered the case stating that it was the only missing person's case where he'd been threatened/ scared off twice.

The Frog Boys of South Korea.

The brutal killing of an older couple in Cornwall. It was near my grandparents where we often used to go. I remember my Grandad having his suspicions of who did it, but I think a lot of his ideas were 'pub talk'.

The tragic death of Phoebe Handsjuk in Australia. Died in awful circumstances that I think were later ruled misadventure/ an accident? But invesigators have tried to "recreate" what happened and been unable to. Poor woman.

Phoebe Handsjuk - yes. Awful way to die, apparently she survived the initial fall and bled to death at the end of the garbage chute. She'd told her psych that Hampel was verbally abusive and left him multiple times, he had a subsequent girlfriend who also died - apparently by suicide - hours after they broke up.

That's...quite the history.

DarkSpark · 03/09/2023 15:33

Growing up in Glasgow I felt like everyone had a story about how they or someone they knew had had an encounter with Bible John.
There's a theory that the 3 victims may not even have all been killed by the same man and so much myth building went on by the lead officer on the case that it's become local legend but no one has ever been prosecuted. There's a great BBC podcast on it.
