Whether it’s personal or well known, which unsolved case makes your brain sound like dial up?

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor
Dyatlov Pass - I saw a documentary about, they were naked because in the final stages of hypothermia you actually be some very hot hence the removal of clothes. I can't remember the rest but it was all explained

Why did they leave the tent?

Edited

I read that with hypothermia people act irrationally and do odd things before they die. So leaving the tent could fit in.

Just read that her bones were bleached too! What!!!

It doesn't mean bleached as in having been washed with bleach. It just means they have been whitened due to exposure to the elements. This looks like the girls got lost (perhaps they strayed off the path trying to find the dog that would eventually take it's self off home) or had an accident/fall and were left lost for days trying to find a phone signal, attract help and eventually died from injuries from an accident/fall or lack of food and the bodies were then scavenged by animals.

They decided it was winds that had a strange frequency that made the victims act strangely and they left their clothes in the tent due to hypothermia late stages

They wouldn’t have had hypothermia if they were in the tent ? (They had a stove in there apparently!)

You could easily get hypothermia in a tent in Russia even with a stove. Remember how long ago this was, before the modern down sleeping bags, duvet jackets, etc that people have now.

VeloVixen · 03/09/2023 13:25

A small cooking stove does not give out much heat.

No, they were all experience hikers who’d been on several similar expeditions before. They knew what they were doing.

I don’t think there’s a specific one on here but Reddit has several:

Cold Case Uk
Unresolved Mysteries
Unsolved Murders

I’m a member of most of those subs & more on Reddit, so wondered if there were any on here too. Thanks for the heads up though 😊

Iamtheonwandlonely · 03/09/2023 13:27

Conor and Sheila Dwyer basically disappeared in to thin air in 1991.
Also Tina Satchwell ,they have a suspect but no proof.

Defiantjazz · 03/09/2023 13:28

But enough if you’re in a tent with 8 other people giving off body heat, I would think

IrresponsiblyCertainAboutSexualDimorphism · 03/09/2023 13:34

It’s a bit off topic, because I think this was probably solved, but it’s stayed with me although I can’t remember the girl’s name.

She was young, maybe around 10-12 and was stabbed close to her home (England I think, definitely U.K.), and thankfully survived. I can vividly remember her (dark hair, freckles, big eyes) at a press conference/interview, smiling broadly and I remember worrying about whether it was OK for her to be being exposed to publicity. I think the purpose was to find witnesses and identify the attacker.

It was definitely not Josie Russell. This girl has been alone when attacked. I am guessing it was mid 1990s, but I could be a little off.

Ap24 · 03/09/2023 13:36

The Daniel Entwistle case is incredibly sad, I think more so because it seems he never had a chance in life. His father was a paedophile, he was born into poverty and the press coverage didn't seem particularly substantial from my memory.

Defiantjazz · 03/09/2023 13:38

The one thing I keep getting stuck on is how they survived in the jungle for 11 days without food or water. I guess it's not impossible, I would just like to know what happened to them during those 11 days - the may have wandered some distance away from the trail but the trail itself is well-used (there was even a car spotted on it the day they went hiking) and the area the trail goes through has houses and grazing livestock. It's not like super remote.

Theres a good documentary on YouTube about this case (The Lost Girls of Panama by The Daily Beast).

It said that while the trail itself (The Piano Road or something like that?) is very safe and a tourist trail the other trails are difficult to navigate and not even safe for locals at certain times of the year (something to do with rains/flooding I think)

There was something about how they wanted to visit someone in a nearby village so maybe they made the mistake of trying to get there on their own?

HolyHellaciousHeck · 03/09/2023 13:38

Re. little Ames Glover, all that's known is that he was reported missing to police. His father claimed he left him unattended in a car from which he vanished. But there's no evidence to say he was in the car that night, and IIRC there were other inconsistencies in the father's account e.g. how long he was away from the car, whether it was locked. IIRC the baby's own mother believed Ames had been smuggled out of the country by a conspiracy of paternal relations.

elliesmummy19 · 03/09/2023 13:43

They probably don’t count as being scary just scary that whatever happened to them, someone got away with it.

Andrew Gosden
Asha Degree

I read on a similar thread to this about Bella in the Wych Elm. It creeped me out, not quite sure why.

jellytotsparkles · 03/09/2023 13:45

Been reading through the thread, lots to catch up on!

I do believe a lot of these cases even the ones I’ve posted about can be explained logically & following the basic principles of Occams Razor.

However there are always the exceptions that fall outside these boundaries and for those we have to hypothesise whilst looking at the case through a different lens so to speak. I do have my own conclusions regarding many mentioned based on hours & hours of research & evidence combing however none are completely infallible.

I noticed JonBenet mentioned a few times here, in my personal opinion her father was the culprit & there is a lot of evidence for it. However I’m not a detective so can never be certain.

I also saw Ben Needham’s Mother asking police to DNA test the body of young boy found weighed down in a river to see if it’s potentially Ben. So I’m sure as far as she is concerned, this case is far from solved.

As I’ve previously stated I just hope that one day at least some of these cases will be solved without a shadow of a doubt & their poor families can finally know the truth.

LylaLee · 03/09/2023 13:47

To pp about a foot found in a shoe.

Apparently this is quite common with clothed bodies which decompose in water. The bodies come apart, but shoes and trainers are buoyant, so the foot separates from the ankle then floats away and is washed up.

Does it seem there were a disproportionate number of serial killers/child abductions in Australia in the 60s-80s?

Most serial killers and paedophiles are known to have been victims themselves in early life. I imagine there are a multitude of factors involved including war, poor mental health, poverty etc. And then better women's rights and the legalisation of abortion would have caused a decrease.

2B2G · 03/09/2023 13:54

Richey Edwards of the Manic street preachers disappearance. They have theories but nothings been proved definitively

LondonJax · 03/09/2023 13:55

Genette Tate as she was a very similar age to me when she went missing and the strangeness around her case. She spoke to two friends as she did her paper round on her bike. Seven minutes later they came over the hill she'd just ridden up and her bike was abandoned on a country road. No sign of her since. I used to ride my bike everywhere and it really struck me with the image of her bike wheel still spinning (apparently).

Suzy Lamplugh - again a similar age. Disappearing in broad daylight from a terraced house just freaked me out a bit.

Madeline McCann. Our DS was born a few days before she disappeared and I suppose it just struck such a cord with me as a new mum.

And Keith Bennett. The Moors Murders was such an awful case. My mum remembers crying at the news about Lesley Anne Downey screaming on tape. Again she was a new mum and it really struck her how wicked some people are.

Enrico Sidoli, the 15 year old who was murdered by a group of boys who attacked him and held him under the water at a Lido in Hampstead in the 1970s.

It was a hot day and there were apparently hundreds of people in the area, but the perpetrators were never identified. The case was reopened a few years ago, along with a photograph of a man who was believed to have witnessed the attack, but still no one has come forward.

Terrifying to think that children can be murdered in broad daylight, in front of loads of people and the killers can just walk away.

We went to a party several years ago with a swimming pool. Loads of people milling around. A seven year old lost his armbands and started to drown. The only person who noticed who was his mum sitting on the poolside who noticed he was missing. Those adjacent to him in the pool didn’t see him. It wasn’t even a deep or big pool, but one in a garden.

Loopylooni · 03/09/2023 12:29

@TheManWhoWasntThere what happened about the Claudia Lawrence suspects being scared off?

I don't know exactly what happened. He wasn't a suspect, he was a journalist covering the story. He wrote an article about this investigation and this was the quote.

"For a privately-educated daughter of a country solicitor Claudia had some unusual acquaintances and this remains the only missing person case where I've been warned off or threatened - not once, but twice."

He didn't really go into detail.

I wonder about the poster in the other thread that some people thought was Ruth Wilson. Why would she be worried about her children's lives and safety all these years on? RW was almost 17 when she disappeared, so even if she had an unhappy home life, could leave soon enough without changing her identity and make a life for herself far away. The poster mentions being able to wear what she likes and go where she likes, which also struck me as an odd thing for an adult woman to say. It sounds more like an oppressive cultural/religious background with the threat of so-called honour based violence. I hope she is doing ok.

There was something along the lines she didn't have official documents which made travel, jobs etc difficult. She did also say that she disappeared well before social media, CCTV everywhere etc which made it easier for her to stay off the radar. She also didn't tell her husband who she really was.
