Whether it’s personal or well known, which unsolved case makes your brain sound like dial up?

This murder victim of one of Hollywood’s most notorious unsolved murders was no innocent starlet. She was a high priced call girl with her madam being the ex girlfriend of an infamous mobster. She also had several famous men as her clientele. In the weeks leading up to her death she slept with two Oscar winning/nominated triple threats (actor-director-writer), two B-list actors turned criminals, a newspaper editor turned nightclub owner, studio heads and the aforementioned mobster. He had her killed so she wouldn’t talk and had a local surgeon who specialized in slicing up cadavers for research labs cut up the starlet’s remains and had his goons dump them near the home of his ex girlfriend. Needless so say she wasn’t scared and conspired with some of his enemies to have him killed.

Thank you to every single one of the 12 pps who mentioned young Noah Donohoe. 💙

Simon Byrne - PSNI Chief Constable - has resigned today. It's a pity he didn't resign or wasn't sacked over the handling of Noah Donohoe's disappearance and death, but I'm glad Byrne has gone at least and at last. He's not the only one who should resign or be sacked over the handling of Noah's case, of course, but one down and all that.

Just to clarify a couple of points made by pps:
It unfortunately took the PSNI over two years to disclose that they had CCTV evidence Noah had left the family home for 35 minutes in the early hours of the morning of the day he disappeared. They are still withholding other CCTV, including from that time. It is important to stress that there is no evidence he was involved in gangs. There are currently more questions than answers, including about why he left his home, unbeknown to his mummy, for 35 minutes in the rain that night, returning without his headphones and flipflops.
Sadly, Noah was seen cycling naked in a residential street in an area he did not know on the day he disappeared, but he was not helped and it was not reported for some considerable time by those who saw him. Noah's body was naked when he was retrieved from a storm drain some distance away six days later.

The much-delayed Inquest for Noah - now with a jury - is likely to take place next year. It is over three years since he died. Public speculation is not wise at this stage in proceedings but it cannot be denied that Noah did not get the investigation he deserved, either when he first disappeared or since.

An independent investigation into Noah's disappearance and death by a team of experts is being led by Investigative Reporter and Producer Donal MacIntyre. It has the full support of Fiona Donohoe. A total of £179,023 was raised by crowdfunding in 49 days to help finance this. I think this, together with the petition and many other activities and events including a mass gathering of thousands of people in Belfast last summer, shows the strength of feeling in NI and across the world, near and far.

The podcast by James English with Fiona, Noah's mummy, and the more recent short videos by Donal MacIntyre are very much worth watching and are available on YouTube.

I wonder if Colin Howell, the Irish dentist who killed his wife and his lover's husband (and pretended it was suicide), also killed his father-in-law (heart attack apparently) - for money.

Kitchendisco1 · 04/09/2023 20:49

@Yiayoula , thanks so much for updating me. I’m really sorry to hear the case is still unsolved. The Crimewatch episode about it was really disturbing. From what I recall he was well liked & it was such a sinister murder with no obvious motive.

Well, whoever it was, two children were killed.

Absolutely, it's still a tradegy.

Have heard very little about this guy. Know it’s a long time ago but still.

Sorry comment above was re Mark Dowling. V odd.

Claudia Lawrence. How can you just disappear into thin air. People must know what happened to her.

Not sure if Nicola Payne has been mentioned? She disappeared in Coventry in the early 90s while walking from her boyfriend’s house to her parents. She was only 18 and had a young baby.

SemperIdem · 04/09/2023 22:26

Christine “Sister Jacinta” Bracken, a nun who disappeared after going to buy a Christmas present for her mother, in 1979.

I feel like she must have disappeared deliberately?

The twins who went off for a run around on the motorway and somehow survived despite being hit..then one went off to murder a man...just the whole behaviour and what led to that moment! More so because traffic cops or something was filming so it all their motorway moves was seen on camera

Yes this was really really freaky. I remember seeing the footage and thinking that I never want to see anything like that again.

Ah thank you-poor family, no closer to finding him and a cloud hanging over the digger driver who very well could be innocent. His shorts disappeared from the washing line if I recall-never found, which makes me doubt the digger driver theory.

You mean "nobody except all of the people on the thread who have"...?

NewspaperTaxis · 05/09/2023 00:55

Some of these stories seem less mysterious now I'm older - seems obvious some corrupt or perverted high-ranking policeman was behind it, and there was a cover-up. Some police forces and local authorities are not just institutionally corrupt, there is something sinister going on. As nobody tends to get held accountable or be sacked, and the press can't touch it, the thing can go on for decades. Generally, if you know the dirty secrets you have a job for life - so long of course that you're not a whistleblower. It's a balance of power thing, almost as if you might get promoted if they have some dirt on you as well, because you're one of the gang.

On one end of the scale you have 'Sir' Gavin Williamson who - almost to his credit - was quite brazen about knowing the dirty secrets from his time as Chief Whip and was un-sackable and then demanded a knighthood, then you have 'Dame' Cressida Dick who was in charge of the Stockwell shooting where a tissue of lies about the victim was put out by the Met, naturally she goes on to be head of the Met, to the likes of Wayne Couzens and David Carrick who were high-ranking police officers, not just joined for the last two years, and very likely chosen for their very proclivities.

Re MM, well the Portuguese police messed up their investigation; it's true that most such deaths are linked to the family but they didn't check out the apartment first thing but left it too late. It was all in the wrong order. The first week the press weren't slating the police was the first week they slyly put it about that the family may have been behind it. Now, with no new news or closure, the story needed a new slant or angle to keep it fresh and unfortunately this is what the press bought. But it's the old victim-blaming trick the police always pull, our lot did it with the Yorkshire Ripper's victims and also Hillsborough, it's just state protocol. The NHS did it with the Telford and Shrewsbury maternity scandal, they all do it.

As sinister is that the Met were given millions to investigate it and of course one senses they spaffed it up the wall on nice trips abroad. Not only that but given that one line is that the kid got abucted by a paedophilic ring, well, that might be one line of inquiry but do you know, none of that money ever uncovered any paedophile ring ever, not even in the course of their investigations. Naturally, it's the German police who uncover a credible lead and suspect to Madeleine McCann's disappearance. Not our lot.

Likewise with the Elm House rumours... the Met wouldn't have gone after that if there really had been a high-profile paedophile ring as they have no form on that, they have form on covering that kind of stuff up however. It was all most likely a warning shot to the Tory party who, with May as Home Secretary, was looking to crack down on them. It was the old 'You've got something on us? We'll get something on YOU!!' trick. Or misdirection given the rumours were coming out about their Masonic mate Prince Andrew and Epstein, or grooming gangs up and down the country, but mainly Greater Manchester, Oxford, Telford, Rotherham and Rochdale. A case of, we'll go after some big names, make the public think it's one of their heroes, and not us.

timesaretight · 05/09/2023 01:08

Must have been after I stopped reading.

MrsMarkRonson · 05/09/2023 02:30

Not sure if its been mentioned yet, but Eloise Worledge who disappeared from her bedroom in Australia in 1976. Really weird as she was just taken, her parents didn't hear anything.
Tragically, her brother died in a car crash in 1997.

whatever1980 · 05/09/2023 06:36

@RhannionKPSS thank you for the update.

Did the PSNI say why they had not informed anyone about the CCTV for 2 years?

Have they said why they're withholding the other CCTV?

Without knowing the 'why' it's difficult to understand the PSNI's stance especially as the death of a child is involved.
