Whether it’s personal or well known, which unsolved case makes your brain sound like dial up?

Ruth Wilson’s stepmother was my teacher for almost all of middle school so I think about Ruth often.

One thing that sticks in my mind is Mrs W telling us that they no longer had a tv at home and had stored it away as watching tv was bad for you.

When Ruth disappeared (I didn’t know her; she went to the other secondary school locally) the first thing my 15yo brain thought was that I’d have run away from a house with no telly, too.

Interestingly I also thought the poster on the thread mentioned earlier was her too. I hope she’s having a great life wherever she is.

The Putney Bridge jogger. He didn’t kill this woman, but what else has he done - before, and since? There’s a theory about him being an off duty police officer apparently and the investigation closed in 2018. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-44639208

How was he not caught within minutes?! Nobody stopped him??

Poor girl just went wandering in unfamiliar surroundings,I honestly don't think it was more than that.

The family were convinced she can’t have just wandered off on her own. She had disabilities that made it difficult for her to walk any distance on her own and they don’t think she could or would have opened the window herself. They would have known her best and what she was capable of. Poor sweet girl. It really needs more investigating, especially as the area she was found (shortly after someone asked the spirits to give her back, very conveniently) was a place that had already been searched.

UntidyFairy · 02/09/2023 22:51

Jonbenet Ramsey. Poor poor child

Came here to say that

Clarabe1 · 02/09/2023 22:52

Andrew Gosden is the one who gets to me the most. Somebody knows something and to think of his poor family suffering year in year out is just awful.
I would like to see the bodies of Renee and Andrew Macrae found primarily for the sake of the family but also to see if there is any incriminating evidence against Rosemary Macdowell - wife of the convicted murderer who knows more than she lets on.
The other one which is truly baffling is the case of Mary Anderson - a pseudonym used by a woman who committed suicide in an upscale Seattle hotel. Despite clear pictures of her nobody has claimed her or knows her. She put her lipstick on before taking cyanide. Very sad.

Was this the one where the room she ended up in had a group of young men in?

Yes! That’s the one. Incredibly weird and doesn’t make any sense.

I still want to know what made posters think it was Ruth in that thread? I'm sorry if this question is in bad taste. I am just very curious.

Have you been to police with this information? Please do if not. It's not too late

It's something I often think about doing but haven't. I don't have physical evidence.

Many of the above
plus
Amy Lynne Bradley’s disappearance
and the case of a (then) local woman who was murdered while walking her dog. The poor dog took itself home and alerted the family. This must have been 20 odd years ago and afaik, nobody was caught 😭

Her name was Julia webb.

Some really interesting cases here and some I had never heard of before.

What I want to hear are peoples theories on the disappearance of Andrew Gosden. I have followed the case for years and there just seems to be nothing. The idea that this poor vulnerable little lad could be seen on CCTV leaving a major train station and then just seemingly be swallowed up by the city never to be seen again is just terrifying. He was a rocker and a gamer and reminds me so much of the boys I would hang around with when I was at school and I desperately hope he is found someday for the sake of his family. I know they have their theories that he went to see a gig with someone etc but there has never seemed to be anything solid.

I feel this was overshadowed by Madeline McCann as it was the same year.

That lad would be my age now if he is alive.

There's so many theories about him. He went to a gig. That he was meeting someone who he was speaking to on his computer and foul play happened... He started a new life...

Iamtheonwandlonely · 02/09/2023 22:59

Andrew Gosden intrigues me.
I have a theory.
He was being bullied so walked to and from school.
He met this person, agreed to meet in London.
He bought a one way as he was expecting a lift back.
That's why he only took some money.
Also explains why there was no internet history.
Also there was another boy murdered that went to the same Science camp.
I do think in these cases that someone knows something that could blow the case open.

Purplebunnie · 02/09/2023 22:59

Edward V and his brother Richard Duke of York.

Who actually had them killed, was it Richard III or was it Hendry Tudor or even someone else. Is it really their bones Westminster Abbey, poor little boys

Razberryberet · 02/09/2023 22:59

LibbyL92 · 02/09/2023 22:55

Yes! That’s the one. Incredibly weird and doesn’t make any sense.

I know one of the men in the room that night he's a drug user and the rest of the group are too I think things turned nasty and she was scared I think she may have had too much to drink or may have taken drugs herself and ended up falling trying to escape its awful!

LovingMyLiver · 02/09/2023 22:59

I was going to say Asha Degree but someone beat me to it. Absolutely baffling. At first I thought the story was bollocks but two completely unrelated witnesses saw her on the highway. Fully grown men would be scared shitless out in the woods during a 3am thunderstorm. HOW could a child do that? Was she sleepwalking and fell into the wrong hands?

Brian Shaffer. Out celebrating exams or something in America on a bar crawl, sadly dealing with his Mother's death but also about to propose to his long term partner. He walks into a bar, never walks out. Every single person on CCTV who left that bar was identified and interviewed but there was never any sign of him again and no other exit. His heartbroken girlfriend phoned his cell EVERY night for months and it was switched off. Then four months later it rang but nobody answered... creepy as fuck.

Peter was the same age as my brother. We knew the family. He bought a ticket for a train to Chester. Was never seen boarding. 16 hours later was found dead in London.

I hadn't seen the above update in 2016.

I remember my mother being terribly upset and frightened as were many parents at the school. My brother was semi grounded for ages as were other teenagers. I still think about him

Did London police car kill Colwyn Bay teenager Peter Watts?

A retired cab driver says he saw a man hit by a police car in Euston in 1976, following an appeal for information about the 15-year-old's death

Forgot to mention Cindy James in my post, She was from Canada. She reported over 100 incidents of stalking to the police who in the end believed she was faking them all/doing it all herself.

She would get letters/threats wrapped around rocks thrown through her window, bangs at her door in them middle of the night, phone calls etc

She was later found dead in an abandoned house with her hands and feet tied behind her back, She had been beaten and drugged with morphine. The police ruled it a suicide..

Yes! I had almost forgotten this one. The fact her death was ruled a suicide & they claimed she was suffering from psychosis/paranoia etc is absolutely absurd. Poor poor woman.

MrsBinx · 02/09/2023 23:02

Madeleine McCann, Jonbenet Ramsey and Claudia Lawrence too.

I also often wonder about Britt Lapthorne. She was a young Australian backpacker that went missing in Croatia and her body was sadly found in the bay a few weeks later. It was years ago now, I don’t think they ever figured out what happened. I always felt so sad for her family.

I remember the name of that thread but don't want to link it in case the mysterious poster would prefer it wasn't reawakened. I think her (assuming female) point was to think twice about sharing missing person appeals and sometimes it's not in the best interest of the person concerned as they may not want to be found. I think she also said her relatives regularly appeal and "appear" to be concerned and upset but that people are not always what they seem.

I think about the Caylee Anthony case sometimes. I remember seeing advertisement for a Crime+Investigation show a few months ago, that was an interview with Casey Anthony and I couldn’t watch it as I have my thoughts about her involvement.

This was all the news when we were on holiday in Florida. It has stayed with me ever since.
I watched the documentary. It was quite interesting in that Caseys defence lawyer/team who have defended hundreds of high profile cases, knowing they were guilty, do not believe she was guilty of her daughters death. Her family who claim to be good honest family appeared quite dysfunctional with her dad (ex police??) Being the MAIN suspect . She claimed she was abused by him and thinks he did something to Caylee that resulted in her death/had to kill her. He then 'found' her in their pool blaming his daughter for the death. He of course denies everything but her team hinted that he knew what to say and how to say things with the police that would focus on his daughter. There are documented 'events' which would back this .

To be honest NONE of them came out of the programme looking good!

jellytotsparkles · 02/09/2023 23:07

This is another I find spooky & creepy yet so intriguing.

I wasn’t aware there was a book based on this, so shall have to give it a read.

MH 370.

Modern airliners with outstanding safety records operated by established, professionally run international carriers do not just disappear, but this one did. We know it ended up at the bottom of the Indian Ocean, but we don’t know how, or where or why. And until we do, aviation is less safe for everyone because we can’t learn the lessons.

I think we've a pretty good idea what happened and (very roughly) where the plane crash landed.

Fair enough. For what it's worth I had a friend who disappeared from an abusive home life and went to start again with new name . She didn't even tell me where she was but wanted to let me know how she was doing.

We drifted out of touch after that, I knew she wanted to start again, and I hope she now has the happy new life she deserves. I can understand why missing people sometimes don't want to be identified.

RicherThanYews · 02/09/2023 23:12

A man named Martin who went missing in March this year, allegedly on or near the valley mountains where I live. There has been no trace of him and honestly not a great deal of media coverage considering the circumstances. It must be terrible for his family and friends.
