Gosh there seems to be a lot of 'inadvertent' code breaking. I suppose if you have fingers in many pies you start to lose track...

Notonthestairs · 24/08/2023 10:29

I see the asylum application backlogs have hit record levels despite fewer Channel crossings this year. Very useful when you want to stir up trouble around the country.

There is an asylum seeker's hotel near us in the next village. I'm proud to say the local community have made the residents very welcome and the local church and village WI have gone out of they way help them fit in. Possibly not what you'd expect in an out and out Tory area but the local town is one of the most diverse in the country.
The hotel had always struggled to fill it's rooms as not an ideal location and had been on the market for a couple of years with no interest

That is really good to know. That is how it should be.

DuncinToffee · 24/08/2023 13:15

We also have a nearby hotel accommodating asylum seekers. I only found out because someone on facebook was complaining about them getting free taxis to local GP's and I drive past there on a regular basis.

I'd like to know who else in the Government has shares in childcare companies. It would explain the move to lower funded childcare to children under 3 years old - and why so many independent nurseries and childminders are being closed down.

Childcare is expensive for these reasons and is about to get even more expensive as places become harder to find. It very much suits these nursery groups and those who have shares in them.

Childcare sector in England must not become ‘playground for private equity’, experts say

Exclusive: Increasing involvement of investment funds could leave nursery places at risk

Yes. Or if you are running things to get as much benefit for yourself and your mates before the well runs dry.

DuncinToffee · 25/08/2023 08:51

Another patronising lying piece of tory

https://twitter.com/Haggis_UK/status/1694961084636004716?s=20

Naga Munchetty - The standing charge for gas & electricity has gone up... do you think that right?

Andrew Bowie - The price cap has come down..

NM - Which will be offset by the rise in the standing charge?

AB - No it won't..

IClaudine · 25/08/2023 09:10

For God's sake. How much longer do we have to put with all this? Bowie just outright lying there. And how convenient to make payouts more generous just in time for the massacre of Tory seats.

I’m suffering from outrage fatigue. It’s reached the stage now where nothing they do shocks or surprises me. Apparently the backlog in processing asylum seekers is now costing £4 billion a year - imagine what they’d be saying if they were on the opposition benches.

Its a world beating backlog.

Along with world beating logs one can find on all our beaches.

Notonthestairs · 25/08/2023 09:44

Know what you mean Blossom. Although I'm at the stage where I can't take them seriously which is terrible because they are still in charge of everything and have another year + to go.

AndrewwBowie seemed surprised/offended to be challenged. Absolutely shouldn't make me laugh but it did a bit.

Johnson, the loan facility and Blyth popping up on the candidate list for the British Council.

Makes you wonder (further) on Nadine’s motivations.

Cornettoninja · 25/08/2023 10:35

@Blossomtoes and @Notonthestairs i absolutely hear both of you. The fact of the matter is they don’t care. They don’t care if they’re called out or widely exposed as hateful, lying, shysters. It means nothing to them.

There’s no shaming or educating these people. And every time I waver over Kier that thought brings me back.

I thought exactly the same thing. Her two daughters will continue to be paid as well.

DuncinToffee · 25/08/2023 11:43

What's going on here

https://twitter.com/AdamBienkov/status/1694696043168907696?s=20

The Conservative Party's accounts for last year, just published by the Electoral Commission, contain loads of redactions for donations made by 'related parties'. Very unusual for so many of these to be hidden

OP posts:
IClaudine · 25/08/2023 11:55

That is really sneaky. It looks as though if a donor made one donation that was under the reporting threshold and then others that were over, the name of the donor would be redacted from the culminated figure donated.

I think.

Cornettoninja · 25/08/2023 12:09

Why bother redacting? Following my assessment above why should they care if Beelzebub and Ming the Merciless show up on their donor list.

This is now just irritating coyness.

Notonthestairs · 25/08/2023 12:42

I'm struggling to read it but am I right in thinking 'related parties' are connected to Leader/Board/members?
Why would that information need redacting?

countrygirl99 · 25/08/2023 13:12

DH has been to an elderly farming client this morning. Known him over 20 years and he's the model for the tory farmer stereotype. The sort that if they have lost his vote you wonder who is left to vote for them. He told DH he is voting Labour next time as he's never seen such a bunch of self serving; dishonest incompetents and the sooner they are gone the better.
