That's what worries me zonder. That by cutting ehcps they cut the legal obligation to meet need. But if they met need they wouldn't need an ehcp that is required to provide more than a mainstream school usually offers.

My ds attended mainstream school and had an ehcp throughout secondary and college which provided a ta for 20 hours support a week. TAs use to be available within school budgets.

Where is the funding for this early intervention coming from anyway? And using what external services that aren’t already massively oversubscribed.

JanieEyre · 10/09/2023 20:05

We're currently in a situation where, in many areas, NHS services like Speech and Language and Occupational Therapy are saying they cannot provide services to children with EHCPs because they don't have the required resources, and there are long queues for children without EHCPs. If they cannot access vital therapy at an early stage, early intervention is not going to happen and children will need the relevant provision in education and therefore prescribed in EHCPs. I haven't seen anything indicating that the Tories plan to remedy that.

14 years ago there were 38 Ed Psychologists working for our LA. Now there are 19. Not sure how they can speed up assessments with fewer people.

pointythings · 10/09/2023 20:49

The official waiting list for the ADHD service in the area I work in is 22 months.

The real waiting list is 10 years.

Tories.

Notonthestairs · 10/09/2023 20:59

Shock pointy.

I don't want to think about what that means for those children. A 10 year delay would mean many are approaching adulthood.

pointythings · 10/09/2023 21:52

@Notonthestairs this is what you get when you're told to set up a service but not given a proper budget to do it. It's horrible. I know the people who work in the service - they know they're doing a poor job. They get enough referrals in a month to keep them working for a year. They've asked the ICB for a stop on new referrals and been told no. They can't win. I'm amazed any of them are still there,

Bloody, fucking Tories.

Notonthestairs · 10/09/2023 22:33

It must be so demoralising.

And it will cost more in the long run - in outcomes for education, mental health, economic activity.

Quite a neat scam though. Announce you've set up X but fail to put sufficient support in place - you can claim to be doing something without actually spending and no doubt the service providers get in the neck.

Andrew Rosindell has started Woke Watch in his local paper. Bravely he’s turned off replies. Presumably because all the people asking why he hasn’t been to Parliament in for over a year is a bit embarrassing.

Given his current predicament, I assume he hasn't put lawyers on his woke list Wink

How does one go about starting to organise a coup?

Asking for a country.

Cornettoninja · 11/09/2023 14:23

@RafaistheKingofClay your ‘friend’ would need to get the army onside or raise a new one… makes you kind of nostalgic for the days when the leader of the country was whoever could beat the shit out of anyone else doesn’t it?

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/09/2023 15:20

Given the extent of defence cuts and that Shapps was made defence sec because he’s a yes man, I don’t think getting the army on side will be too much of an issue. Police shouldn’t be too much of an issue either.

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/09/2023 15:23

There’s no end to the list of people the government have screwed over.

He can recruit all the musicians that are pissed off they can no longer tour in the EU.

You’d think wouldn’t you @RafaistheKingofClay ? Last time I had a lurk around the NAAFI forums they were surprisingly pro-Tory (I think it was around the time Boris got his comeuppance). Things might have changed though…

DuncinToffee · 11/09/2023 16:17

Carol Vorderman can always jump into a plane and lead the air force

OP posts:
RafaistheKingofClay · 11/09/2023 16:19

Talking of Vorderman, have you seen the mess Greg Hands has made of trying to silence her on Twitter?

DuncinToffee · 11/09/2023 16:31

Yes I did, quite the Streisand effect Grin
