Prison bloke on LBC earlier said that the prison is so short staffed that they only have enough people to cover 70% of shifts.

RafaistheKingofClay · 07/09/2023 18:23

I think they had prison officers doing double shifts too.

DuncinToffee · 07/09/2023 18:30

A former prisoner on the radio this morning also mentioned lack of experience and that they all knew when the staff numbers were lower and when inexperienced staff were going to be on duty.

Cleverly on GMab right now showing just how desperate the Tory's are.

Threw his toys out of the pram when Kata Garraway brilliantly challenged him on the statistics he was presenting and how they can be translated alternatively.

All he wanted to do was read from his script about how brilliant that are. And then told us nothing of any substance.

But he made a brilliant joke though. The punchline being "out record on delivering public service has been excellent" 🤣🤣

RafaistheKingofClay · 08/09/2023 07:29

😂

I think his definition of the word excellent and mine might be slightly different.

itsgettingweird · 08/09/2023 07:51

Well considering most things they do are world leading and beating I think he should be disappointed at just being excellent.

Johnny Mercer has been particularly active in pushing it through. HMG don't want to run the risk of being held accountable for crimes committed by its forces in NI. Protecting GB veterans and government secrets is the objective, the views of the people of NI as usual don't seem to matter too much.

Totally agree

It's àll a bit weird due to boundary changes. Looks like whoever gets selected won't stand at the next election Confused

I was thinking that's all a bit odd, unless they ship I the candidates who were already lined up for the neighbouring constituency this this will join up with - but that can't happen with the Tory as he is already an MP. Though I suppose it could be a nice little number for someone, become an MP for a year and then wander off with your ex MP payoff and pension.

But, but, Boris told us we didn't need to be part of Horizon because British funded science research would be so much better. Surely he wasn't lying?

BIossomtoes · 08/09/2023 10:11

Boris lie? Not in a million years!

InMySpareTime · 08/09/2023 10:24

British funded scientific research might have been good, except they forgot to fund it and then wondered why it got worse.

I’ve been meaning to write to conservative HQ to thank them for ensuring such a well run country. My life is unrecognisable compared to 13 yrs ago.

Like that clearly hard working woman was saying the other day, we just don’t take the time to praise others contributions.

mibbelucieachwell · 08/09/2023 12:42

The private energy companies are saying that the government price cap is too low for the building of wind turbines to be profitable.

But wind power is much cheaper than th current alternatives. How about the gov cracks on and gets some built.

I thought the joke was when he said 'I am not lying' Grin

If Boris Johnson told you tomorrow's weather forecast and you had not read it elsewhere, you'd take an umbrella with you.

It's all so ridiculous. Slinging money at performative bollocks whilst starving public services of money that could actually improve lives.

& why on earth aren't we utilising on shore wind?

Notonthestairs · 08/09/2023 16:06

"I thought the joke was when he said 'I am not lying' "

I can't believe, after the last 18 months, he'd have the bare faced cheek to say this! We heard him twist and turn to cover up for Johnson time and again.

That's the problem with pretty much all the Cabinet. We know they've lied before to save their jobs, no reason to believe they won't again.

RafaistheKingofClay · 08/09/2023 17:47

Some of them have been arguing entirely different policy positions depending on whose cabinet they are in.

https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/wandsworth-prison-cctv-security-upgrade-jail-three-years-overdue-daniel-khalife-escaped-2603541

In 2019 a prisoner escaped from Wandsworth by clinging to underside of security van - just like Daniel Khalife. An upgrade to CCTV & perimeter security was then ordered.. ..but work didn’t start till 2021 & won’t be completed to 2025.

Independent Monitoring Board for Wandsworth - blamed Ministry of Justice @MoJGovUK

“The work was originally estimated to take two years but, due to MoJ delays, completion has been pushed back to 2025.”

A prison break in 2019. Nothing happened.

An almost identical one in 2023.

CCTV security upgrade at Wandsworth Prison was three years overdue when Daniel Khalife escaped

Inspection reports reveal the Ministry of Justice authorised funding for improved security in the wake of a prisoner escape in 2019, but that work is not due to be completed until 2025

As long as the prisoner stays on the run, presumably it is a win for the Home Office as it is one less person they are responsible for?

In which byline times run a story on a report that found that the government have no idea how much corruption there is in government under Sunak and someone from the Cabinet office gives an honest answer. Before someone else emails and begs them not to use it.

It's been good for taking the RAAC concrete crisis out of the news which Sky is now reporting as effecting both Gatwick and Heathrow
