Interesting @Roussette

And why can't KS consider backing a rejoin move?

Notonthestairs · 09/09/2023 08:20

I doubt Labour want to reopen the Brexit arguments before the next election. It would simply suck all the air out of any other policy. We'd be back to Farage/Tice/Johnson wibbling on QT. The Conservatives can't expressly back down either (more fools them).

BIossomtoes · 09/09/2023 08:39

Brexit is a mess that can only be solved with another referendum (democracy, innit?) and it will be at least another decade before that’s feasible. Wouldn’t it be deliciously ironic if it was the next generation of Tories that did it?

Notonthestairs · 09/09/2023 08:43

I think the most important thing for Labour is to keep making the point that Brexit is a Conservative failure, designed to keep their party together no matter the cost to the nation.

BIossomtoes · 09/09/2023 08:44

Absolutely, with particular reference to Johnson.

Cornettoninja · 09/09/2023 08:49

I don’t think support of the EU is a particularly natural Labour position at the heart of it although their motivators are not the same as the Brexit movement.

I think I agree with Kier on this one. We are where we are and everything needs addressing before opening conversations about going backwards. Rejoining at this point wouldn’t realistically solve much since we’re in a weaker position than we’ve ever been and the EU is less likely to be ‘negotiating’ rather than issuing conditions.

I’m a remainer through and through but we can’t ignore events of the last few years (and before).

Cornettoninja · 09/09/2023 08:54

it would be but this lot are rubber and labour are glue. Snidey, twisting bunch of grifters.

I saw the headline of Boris’s most recent DM article - still banging on about Brexit making Britain great. I don’t want to invite karma but my god, I can’t help but only wish horrific things on that sell-out.

Cornettoninja · 09/09/2023 09:31

Most digressive digression I’ve ever made but Alexa has been playing songs that I haven’t listened to in a while…. I now think that labour should have Pompeii by bastille as their canvassing theme Grin

^^ Wot she says @Zonder 🤣

Biggest can of worms ever and they need to win first!

countrygirl99 · 09/09/2023 10:30

Agree that Labour backing re-entry to the EU would be a massive mistake right now and could ensure another Tory government. I'd love it but it just won't work yet.

Sadly I think it's in another generation's time
I am hoping that like the rejoining of Horizon EU science program, we can stealthily slowly but surely claw back some of what is so sorely missed like Erasmus, the reciprocal program. The Turing scheme is expensive, difficult to navigate and missing nearly £60m funding from the EU.

Perhaps if Labour do it slowly no one will notice that we're working towards being on an equal footing with our neighbours!

MrTiddlesTheCat · 09/09/2023 12:12

I want Cabury's to be able to deliver to Sweden again. Fucking brexit stealing my cream eggs.

DuncinToffee · 09/09/2023 12:35

Hahahaha

Rishi Sunak wants to be PM until 2030 and is "entirely confident" he will win election

Gosh, that man is going to completely shatter mentally if he ever has a moment of clarity about who he actually is.

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2023 12:44

I hope the conservatives are kicked into touch , but I have a horrible feeling it might be a hung pa

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2023 12:45

Hung parliament ( posted too soon )

L1ttledrummergirl · 09/09/2023 13:01

Not a hope. That lying piece of shit and the rest of his sycophantic hangers on will be out on their ear.

Re Brexit, just because this government is too busy lining its pockets to worry about little derails like running a country, it doesn't mean that with good governance and proper funding that the country can't thrive.

He was never going to acknowledge to a national newspaper, especially the Mirror, that he expects to be out on his ear come the next election. But I bet he's got his next little earner lined up, probably in the US.

I thought we were supposed not to like economic migrants?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 09/09/2023 13:12

The real reason Sunak has refused to attend the upcoming UN General Assembly is revealed. Nothing to do with having a busy schedule, as claimed. Everything to do with throwing his toys out of the pram because he isn't allowed to participate in a side climate summit because it's only for those who are demonstrably taking it seriously.

Ha, I just came to post that article MrTiddles

Not a lot coming out of the G20 summit either

I very much doubt Sunak is so deluded he thinks he'll win. That's just chat for the activists & base. They need the money coming in.

I suspect it will be a sweet release for him. It's not like he'll be left grifting for a Daily Mail column. Richmond won't see him for dust (North Yorkshire Richmond, London Richmond might catch a glimpse of him on his way to Heathrow).
