If they were serious about helping people with disabilities who want to work they'd introduce something like we have here in Sweden.

We have a system where you can be 'signed off' for varying amounts and the benefits system reflects this. Is isn't all or nothing. So for example because of autism I've been assessed as having 50% capacity. So I am 50% sick pensioned. I will never have to be assessed for this again as it's not something you get better from. So I receive 50% disability benefits, which has no bearing at all on the other 50%. I can work 50% and earn millions (I wish) and it doesn't impact my disability benefits. And my DH's income is irrelevant.

Yes and didn't they also make us stick to silly little rules about sewage and water?

They did indeed, and it is really very silly of them as it has stopped their governments making money since they own our water companies.

Oh dear now the online safety bill is going wonky. On the plus side we can all continue using WhatsApp. The tech not actually existing is a bit reminiscent of tech solutions to the NI border issue.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 06/09/2023 14:20

Is there anything, literally anything, this government does successfully?

Enrich its mates?

Lie?

Somehow among all the school building/Keegan crap I missed this. This is just a Tory cabinet minister standing up and proposing life sentences for lawyers who coach migrants. WTAF.

https://twitter.com/JolyonMaugham/status/1699133738276303174

So, if it's helping immigrants to lie is potentially worth life imprisonment, where does that leave us in relation to people who help Prime Ministers and Cabinet Ministers to lie, and cover it up when they do? And how about the liars themselves?

Education Secretary Gillian Keegan tells @theJeremyVine that headteachers who have not yet responded to a government survey on whether their schools are affected by crumbling concrete should “get off their backsides”.

x.com/pippacrerar/status/1699053879042920767?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

She's trawling now - determined to stir up trouble for HT. Sickening.

But I'd rather like to convert my garage. Think my local headteacher would be prepared to come and give it the once over?

I'm more surprised that so many heads have responded. If I were in that position I'd be tempted to tell Keegan to come and look for herself, as she clearly has more time to spare than the average headteacher.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 06/09/2023 14:56

On Politics Live they were talking about this claim that some headteachers haven't bothered to return their survey questionnaires by the deadline, ie it's all their fault. Turns out they were first emailed about it on 18th August and the deadline for return was 23rd. So 5 days for a school to respond to an email in the middle of the summer holidays. Absolute clueless idiots.

RafaistheKingofClay · 06/09/2023 15:12

That’s the sort of thing that’s pretty normal for DfE.

DuncinToffee · 06/09/2023 15:43

Schools who did 'bother' to return their surveys, might as well not have done so

https://twitter.com/JohndickensSW/status/1699353895141609539?s=20

Gillian Keegan ordered heads to ‘get off their backsides’ and reply to RAAC surveys, threatening to name and shame them

But @ASCL_UK says six leaders got letters despite filling in surveys, some months ago - calling the validity of the whole DfE RAAC list into doubt

Catching up with PMQs. Turns out it's labours fault for not raising RAAV with Sunak at any point in the past 5 years.

DuncinToffee · 06/09/2023 17:16

The Penny has dropped. Rishi’s shit.

Well Starmer did not use the word RAAC when adressing schools falling down in his speech, so how was Sunak to know Confused

Turns out that Sunak's expensive education hasn't allowed him to think for himself or ask questions.

itsgettingweird · 06/09/2023 17:42

Was good to see a bit of continuity though.

I think we had world, European and everything else beating wangled in a least a dozen sentences Wink

Ds is loving these Most ..... memes.

He laughs so hard every time.

RafaistheKingofClay · 06/09/2023 20:27

You know there was a slight moment in No 10 where someone went ‘great a terror suspect has escaped from prison we can stop talking about RAAC’ before realising that this was yet another bad news story for them.

Notonthestairs · 06/09/2023 21:02

Just catching up with the news. I'd been expecting Pincher to resign - is he clinging on?

BIossomtoes · 06/09/2023 21:06

I thought he’d resigned but I can’t find anything online. Maybe I dreamt it.

DuncinToffee · 06/09/2023 21:14

He was expected to resign today but hasn't so far
