I wonder if Nadine D has put her letter of no confidence in the Prime Minister in to the 1922.

Hilarious.
Of course we don't need an election! What we need is another leadership contest! That will fix it.

Thinking of their jobs, not the country.

InMySpareTime · 01/09/2023 21:06

Isn't that one the "they're only pretending to be children but they're all 30 year old men with beards" pick 'n' mix argument?

Piggywaspushed · 01/09/2023 21:08

Oh, I forgot that one.

Notonthestairs · 01/09/2023 21:10

Urgh. How many of these children will they lose?

JanieEyre · 01/09/2023 21:39

Piggywaspushed · 01/09/2023 20:49

Is that serious? I mean, at a time when they're telling LAs they've got so stop wasting money on children with SEN, they want them to cough up thousands of pounds for sodding chess sets?

Which Tory party donor is manufacturing these things, then?

L1ttledrummergirl · 01/09/2023 22:31

It's not even chess sets, it's just a table and bloody chairs!

Zonder · 01/09/2023 22:41

Piggywaspushed · 01/09/2023 20:49

Why do you need four seats at a chess table?

Zonder · 01/09/2023 22:42

mibbelucieachwell · 01/09/2023 12:09

How, just how? 🤯

R4 Reunion programme today with Ken Clarke, John Redwood and two others whose names I didn't catch remembering the end of John Major's time. Ken Clarke recounted how John Major refused to do personal attacks on Glenda Jackson on the basis that she had given up a stellar career to enter politics. KC and JM seem like gods compared with the current leadership.

I listened to this and felt quite nostalgic for a time when things weren't so nasty and corrupt.

Why do you need four seats at a chess table?

Good question!

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/09/2023 23:34

I hadn’t noticed the 4 chairs at a chess table. I think I was too shocked by the cost.

Why do you need four seats at a chess table?

Goodness knows.

Chess is such a public school thing, you can tell it is a Sunak idea.
Of all his desperate ideas this is one of the worst.
Chess sets not provided. They'd only last one day before pieces going missing anyway

Notonthestairs · 01/09/2023 21:10

The advantage of losing children (or any asylum seekers) is they can then take them off the list of asylum seekers, thus reducing the backlog.

Notonthestairs · 02/09/2023 06:24

I've seen chess being played in parks in America. I wonder if that has influenced Sunak.

It's not high on my list of priorities at the moment.

Cabinet civil war over plan to hand out thousands of visas for India trade deal | Politics | News | Express.co.uk

Braverman is saying there shouldn't be visas in the trade deal with India. Badenoch is saying there should be.

There's something about taking back control of our borders so why should we be handing out visas in a trade deal....

It is very confusing.
Providing refuge for people fleeing conflict and persecution is apparantly bad and the UK is overflowing, but it providing homes for those coming from Hong Kong and India is just fine and dandy.

Re the concrete. DfE will pay for temporary measures - eg portakabins/ shoring up beams but schools have to bid for permanent repairs in a process that could take over a year...

And there is a shortage of chartered surveyors to look at schools more recently reporting issues.

Piggywaspushed · 02/09/2023 10:55

If of a nervous disposition, do not look at police shooting thread.

DuncinToffee · 02/09/2023 18:24

I haven't seen that thread Piggy but I am going to assume there is a lot of victim blaming going on, I remember the Floyd George thread.

On one of the school closure threads, they have finally gotten round to blaming Labour Confused

Honestly what isn't there a shortage of in the UK these days?

Secretary of State not available for interviews on the biggest story of the weekend.

Instead they’ve done this to bizarre dance music in the background, perhaps to sooth frayed nerves?

Doesn’t scream that No10 trust the Education Secretary…
