Looks like it’s going to be Stop the Sickness benefits day today.

Presume starving people will not only save money but also reduce hospital waiting lists.

Naga Munchetty - What parents care about, today, is whether their children are going to a school that's safe...

Nick Gibb - "You seem to be criticizing us for being more proactive than other govts around the world.."

How, just how? 🤯

R4 Reunion programme today with Ken Clarke, John Redwood and two others whose names I didn't catch remembering the end of John Major's time. Ken Clarke recounted how John Major refused to do personal attacks on Glenda Jackson on the basis that she had given up a stellar career to enter politics. KC and JM seem like gods compared with the current leadership.

Theresa May is busy rewriting history about her part in the Windsrush scandal and 'hostile environment'

Oh god. If someone starts a thread on that I will end up banned.

That’s just infuriating.

yes nick you fucking plum, it’s all about your hurty feelings. That’s what is at the heart of the problem.

Not parents and staff fears at finding out apparently a load of school buildings are dangerous enough that you’ve had to shut them days before the new term. Your job, the one you had to campaign to even get near, is to reassure not seek pats on the back and then get all huffy when no one offers you a gold star. This is basic stuff. If you can’t offer anything useful then please do shut the fuck up.

I think we should have regular opinion media slots for ministers old teachers. They had influence on their formative years and maybe they need to hear regular feedback from people who make their stomachs turn over.

Edit: them to then

Apparently , a beam actually caved in over the summer in a primary school which is the only reason they suddenly started acting on their list of information.

Yes I heard that on BBC R4.

They had a list of critical buildings that they have been working on.

Then a list of inspected buildings that weren't considered imminent risk. One of those has a collapsed beam. So they commissioned new reports and this is the result.

Despite the absolute shit show it's proving to be for schools it was one time when I actually thought "if you're telling the truth then actually they have acted correctly and timely"

But that's being generous and ignoring the fact they have cut funding and scrapped building better schools previously which may have prevented ever ending up here in the first place.

Piggywaspushed · 01/09/2023 18:15

Oh dear. Just upset Festus because I wouldn't shake his hand.

The strategy is not to engage in debate, not to discuss policies, or national issues.

He said how divided the country was and I didn't have my wits about me to point out who achieved that.

Piggywaspushed · 01/09/2023 19:15

Without giving away too many details, DH's school has RAAC.

Not a state school.

JanieEyre · 01/09/2023 19:25

Are they in portakabins, @Piggywaspushed?

It's being very generous indeed, given that it looks as if they wouldn't have done anything now but for that collapsed beam. A few prominent Tories are now profoundly grateful that that didn't happen in termtime, there's no good way to put a spin on news reports about crushed children.

itsgettingweird · 01/09/2023 19:34

It's only generous because the way it was explained was the collapsed building hadn't been deemed unsafe during the first report .

So when it collapsed they commissioned new reports.

Clearly we only have what was said. But it did sound like they took action when it was discovered they needed to and commissioned new reports on previously inspected buildings.

And I NEVER give this government the benefit of the doubt re education!!! So I'm waiting the truth to be revealed on actual timescales as I also assume they are lying!

7 different Downing Street Director of Communications since 2019.

The latest one worked at Institute for Economic Affairs (Tufton Street) before working for Truss.

Quite a revolving door between IEA and Downing Street. I suppose they all expect to be on an honours list after the next election.
