Remind me again who cancelled building schools for the future and replaced it with pretty much nothing? Bet the Tories will try to claim credit for their actions without accepting responsibility for getting us here in the first place.

DuncinToffee · 31/08/2023 15:17

They identified the schools in June and waited until the last day of August to take action!

Utter shambles

It's exactly what they did throughout covid. Guidance on the day - or if lucky the day before - it came into practice.

Sometimes I think it's a control and power game to them.

I do feel like this has been an unpopular finding they’ve known about for a while and had their hand forced at the very last minute.

just heard Sangita Myska point out that a lot of hospitals also have the same concrete causing issues in schools.

I know precisely fuck all about concrete but this can’t be a new finding.

Notonthestairs · 31/08/2023 15:50

Thirty-four hospital buildings in England have roofs made of concrete that is so unstable they could fall down at any time, ministers have admitted.

amp.theguardian.com/society/2022/aug/14/ministers-admit-hospital-buildings-england-roofs-could-collapse-any-time

That was last August - I think they've started work on half a dozen?

Notonthestairs · 31/08/2023 15:51

DuncinToffee · 31/08/2023 15:29

So the survey was done in 2019, delayed release of survey until 2021 and now in 2023 they are suggesting schools take immediate action?

Cornettoninja · 31/08/2023 16:02

That was last August - I think they've started work on half a dozen?

they’ve been busy building 40 ‘new’ hospitals to be fair

Notonthestairs · 31/08/2023 16:05

Oh yes, I'd forgotten all about the 40 new hospitals.

I've visited all of them.

Hmm.

It must be very challenging for teachers

DuncinToffee · 31/08/2023 16:10

Don't forget this is a different government than those in charge in 2019 or 2021 or even 2010, nothing to do with Sunak and his puppets

And yet another SEN minister moves on. That must be around 6 in the last 16 months or so. Shows how much value they put on education.

Puppets or muppets?!

Yes you're right those timescales are horrendous.

Have they used covid as an excuse for the delay yet?

Yes schools were closed for many - but against what they wanted to do.

Maybe it was this shit crumbling concrete that was going to keep covid out of schools? Wink

DuncinToffee · 31/08/2023 16:55

Puppets or muppets?!

Oops that was supposed to say muppets, puppets makes it sound as if Sunak is actually pulling some strings....

They could have sorted it before they told a significant number of tradespeople to fuck off.

Notonthestairs · 31/08/2023 17:11

Meanwhile junior doctors & consultants announce strike action (with Christmas Day cover) in September & October.
Sunsk must be thrilled, he can try again to frame doctors as the reason for the record waiting lists (& ignore the 4.4 million on waiting lists from 2020).

Forgetting of course that the Conservative Workforce Plan that they were so bloody proud of requires a significant increase in numbers of doctors and to incentivise overseas doctors to come here & for UK graduates to want to train he's going to need to improve pay and workloads.

Argh.

Either was appropriate Grin

Cheguevarahamster · 31/08/2023 17:54

Just seen the news about the schools. Utter shambles. Tories have fucked this country.

itsgettingweird · 31/08/2023 18:06

Invited to Downing street to recognise their public service? So in 3 years they've served the community that much they are invited to Downing street? Even though there's a massive rise in police officers murdering and raping civilians you decided this was appropriate. O and then you go on national TV and say you want more of them on the streets being able to investigate stolen cars, and able to respond to the smell of cannabis. You do realise cannabis was made legal for medical use in the UK in 2018 and there are over 20,000 medical users with a prescription. It sounds like you disproportionately want to target cannabis users, yet noone has ever died from smoking weed. Why don't you concentrate on your Rwanda plan for the boats and tbh jump on one yourself because you're downright hopeless at your job. An absolute disgrace. Get the police to investigate the crimes your government thats committed against us all since the covid debacle and Investigste the criminals who have stolen billions of pounds of tax payer money. You wont do this though e cause you're part of the corruption. #FucktheTories

A response from someone on Bravermans FB page about the 20k "extra" police and visits to Downing Street.

There's some other good responses (I don't agree with Rwanda plan btw and I'm not sure this poster does?)

MrTiddlesTheCat · 31/08/2023 18:09

2018 was when the first school roof made from RAAC concrete collapsed. Thankfully at a weekend. So for 5 years the government have allowed children to sit under rooves they know could collapse at any moment. Evil, incompetent fuckers!

DuncinToffee · 31/08/2023 18:19

One of our local secondary schools have had scaffolding up all summer, wonder if it had anything to do with the RAAC as the building fits the description.

pointythings · 31/08/2023 19:17

So this is Stop the Schools week then?

It is certainly a key Tory policy. We do not want people well educated, because that may involve critical thinking and being able to spot a liar, so best keep the underclasses undereducated and feed them with the latest hate.

DuncinToffee · 31/08/2023 22:04

From the Mirror

Latest Tory waste: hospital beds bought for the fake Nightingale hospitals (you know, the ones they never actually bothered to staff but merely paraded on TV).

Bought for £2,500 each, sold for £6.

That's a loss of over 99%.
